    Postdoctoral Research Fellowship (1-year Contract) - (1005)

    • The fellowship will enable an outstanding doctoral graduate to obtain experience of research and innovation at a higher education institution under the mentorship of established researchers.
    • The fellowship is awarded on a competitive basis, taking into account the applicants' academic achievements, publication outputs and research potential, as well as the relevance of prior experience and expertise. The fellowship is available for a period of one year, renewable for up to three years subject to satisfactory performance. 

    Successful applicants are expected to:

    • Conduct innovative research in the following areas: corporate law and/or consumer protection and credit law.
    • Author/co-author at least three (3) publication outputs per year in the form of DHET- accredited scholarly journal articles or books/chapters in books. The renewal of the fellowship beyond the first year depends on satisfactory performance and the submission of an annual progress report.
    • Initiate projects and seek funding for them.
    • Register and reside as postdoctoral research fellow at the UFS and participate in relevant activities of the School of Postgraduate Studies and the Directorate of Research.

    Minimum Requirements:

    • Open to all South African and Foreign nationals for full-time research at the University of the Free State.
    • Graduated with a LLD or PhD degree in a relevant discipline within the last five years.
    • Successful applicants may not hold full-time salaried employment during the fellowship.
    • Successful applicants must be able to relocate to the UFS for the duration of the fellowship. This is a residential fellowship: the successful applicant is required to spend 80% of her/his postdoctoral period at the UFS.

    Vice-Dean: Teaching and Learning (Health Sciences) (post level 5) - (962)

    Duties and responsibilities:

    • Strive for excellence in all aspects of health sciences with a focus on teaching and learning.
    • Responsible to ensure the achievement of the mission of all faculty-based programmes with a main focus on teaching and learning and also other areas of community and stakeholder engagement and accreditation.
    • Responsible to provide effective and appropriate academic and scholarly teaching and learning direction and to develop and implement the teaching and learning mission of the faculty within the broader university context. Also, to focus on community and stakeholder engagement and accreditation included with the teaching and learning drive within this strategic direction.
    • Responsible to ensure improving and maintaining all academic standards for programme accreditation across all programmes in terms of teaching and learning initiatives and graduate and research output.
    • Support the Dean to ensure oversight of all internal and external relations and assist in securing strategic collaboration and third-stream income.
    • Participate in committees both at faculty and university level and chair the faculty teaching and learning committee.
    • Participate predominantly in the teaching and learning portfolio that will include aspects of ethics, medical writing, quality assurance and community and stakeholder engagement but also in accreditation, employment equity and areas of education and community service that link up with research.

    • Ensure that service levels are achieved in line with SLAs and that user expectations are met or exceeded.
    • Build services relationship with customers and conduct service reviews for key customers.

    Incident Management    

    • Manage the life cycle of all incidents that affect the service provided to End users, allocating Incidents that cannot be resolved by the service desk to second or third-line support resources and coordinating the response of these resources.
    • Manage support tickets escalation which ultimately results in client satisfaction ratings.
    • Follow-up on all support tickets to ensure team members align themselves with operational SLA's (Service Level Agreements).

    Duties and responsibilities:

    • Develop and coordinate medical CPD programmes in the School of Clinical Medicine (SOCM) for third stream income generation.
    • Apply for Continued Professional Development (CPD) accreditation on behalf of the SOCM.
    • Develop and coordinate new online medical learning material for the SOCM that can be used to generate third stream income (e.g., CPD, short learning programmes, courses etc.).
