    Macroeconomist

    Job Description

    • The purpose of the Macroeconomist is to conduct economic research, investigate the dynamic macroeconomic relationships and understand how the economy functions in order to gain a better understanding of how a country’s economy works will impact business cycles, unemployment rates, inflation, interest rates, international finance, and its impact on monetary and fiscal policies. 
    • The purpose of the Macroeconomist is to use the macroeconomic research findings to aid RMB and its clients which can be multinational corporations, institutional investors, as well as sovereigns, in making informed economic assessments and developing effective business strategies.

     Responsibilities 

    • Build and maintain a suit of macroeconomic models that are used for the production of forecasts for the South African economy.
    • Advising clients on global macro trends, both short-term (e.g. inflation, supply chain disruptions) and long-term (e.g., the energy transition, automation of jobs, rise of digital in the economy), as well as other market forces which impact the economy, various industries and company strategies
    • Advising clients on how they can enhance enterprise value based on macro, industry, and investor dynamics
    • Developing iconic firm-wide thought leadership on macroeconomic trends for external publishing
    • Develop engagement strategies focused on helping clients craft rapid, data-driven, and practical strategies to boost their growth and profits.
    • Responsible for ongoing analysis and research for key economic trends related to a wide variety of scopes which includes energy, infrastructure, decarbonisation and regenerative initiatives
    • Assessing the likely adequacy of the impacts of projects and their associated economic development initiatives
    • Provide insights and actionable results in well-written reports and presentations to clients, as well as defending the findings
    • Provide advice and solutions on economic and development issues for private and government clients
    • Conduct secondary research and seeking new data sources in order to prepare complete and accurate analysis, reports and recommendations

    Qualifications

    • Masters in degree in Economics or Econometrics or Mathematics or Statistics with strong economics

    Experience and Skills

    • Proven experience in econometric model building, and modelling and forecasting.
    • Experience working with macroeconomic data and analyzing economic trends, as well as a strong grasp of the relationships between different sectors, markets and regions.
    • Experience in supporting business development and sales activities.
    • Experience with financial analysis and reporting, market analysis, and gathering competitive intelligence, particularly in relation to Strategy Consulting
    • Experienced with data and analytics visualization software, as well as econometrics software (e.g., Matlab, Eviews, PowerBI, R, Python, Stata, Tableau)
    • Strong quantitative skills and are an analytical thinker with experience in driving insights using statistics or data analysis

    Human Capital Executive: Sponsor Segment and IBD

    Job Description

    • To lead the Human Capital function of Sponsor Segment and Investment Banking Division, drive adoption of the Human Capital Partner delivery model and support and guide Business Human Capital Partners in applying Human Capital programmes and business goals in achievement of business strategy and execution of FirstRand People Strategy.

    • Advise on the design and implementation of HC programmes, ensuring programmes remain relevant to the business supported.

    • Partner and bring in resources from Experience Architecting to implement HC solutions that meet the distinctive challenges of the business.
    • Develop comprehensive strategic talent acquisition, career development, succession planning, retention, training, leadership development, compensation and benefits plans to meet the human capital objectives.
    • Act a trusted advisor across the business and build the credibility of the Human Capital function.
    • Partner with the Industrial Relations Team in managing external relationships with the Commission for Conciliation, Mediation and Arbitration (CCMA), Labour Court and labour Unions.
    • Attend all EXCO and Manco meetings to provide updates on the Human Capital function.
    • Maintain expert knowledge on relevant legislative amendments, industry best practices and FirstRand internal compliance procedures and requirements.
    • Ensure compliance is adopted in terms of systems and procedures as laid out by Group.
    • Design and implement a control framework to ensure the integrity of operations and practices.
    • Anticipate and apply and policies/procedures to manage and control both financial and non-financial risks.
    • Ensure compliance with audit requirements.
    • Investigate and implement measures to correct audit findings.
    • Lead and transform the HC function by identifying key HC processes and tools that will create future insights for the business and the HC function aligned to the FirstRand HC People strategy.
    • Share learnings and insights with business and HC community to motivate and keep Human Capital and line leaders engaged to deliver on mandated HC requirements.
    • Oversee the integration of specialist Human Capital capabilities to enable an innovative and future focused way of work.
    • Provide oversight over Human Capital and business projects.
    • Empower Human Capital Business Partners to be true business partners that add value and guide business to always do the right thing.
    • Support and guide Human Capital Business Partners in partnering effectively with business as and when required and assist them in providing alternatives to add value to their business.
    • Hold Human Capital Business Partners accountable for data integrity and execution of required processes and standards.
    • Ensure fair and equitable practices by implementing comprehensive Employment Relations policies and procedures.
    • Consult with Human Capital partners on the development, implementation and changes to human capital policies and initiatives.
    • Review and recommend changes to relevant HC policies and procedures annually or as the need arises.

    Are You Someone Who Can: ​

    • Unpack and critically think about the risk of new and existing debt and equity deals for clients across a broad range of geographies and industries
    • Engaging with the client,
    • Interrogating a client’s business model and identifying risks,
    • Assessing financial data put forward by the client,
