    Senior Manager: Student Finance (P6) (Finance: Revenue Administration: Student Debtors and Credit Control)

    Job Description:

    • The Senior Manager: Student Finance is responsible for the strategic and operational management of student fees, accounts receivable and financial aid functions across assigned campuses. The role ensures the integrity, accuracy and completeness of student financial information, while driving effective revenue management, debt collection strategies and compliance with institutional policies and legislative requirements.
    • This position provides leadership to multiple teams, plays a key role in stakeholder engagement, and contributes to the achievement of the University’s financial sustainability objectives.

    Responsibilities:

    • Provide strategic and operational leadership in the management of student fees, accounts receivable and financial aid functions.
    • Ensure accurate billing, allocation and reconciliation of student fees, bursaries, NSFAS and other funding streams.
    • Oversee the development, implementation and monitoring of student fee payment plans and credit control strategies.
    • Manage debtor processes, including statements, acknowledgements of debt, write-offs and handovers.
    • Oversee the administration and reconciliation of bursary funding, sponsor accounts and control accounts.
    • Compile and manage budgets, forecasts and financial reports relating to student finance and revenue streams.
    • Ensure compliance with university policies, governance frameworks, audit requirements and relevant legislation.
    • Build and maintain strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders, including faculties, service providers, sponsors and government entities.
    • Lead, manage, develop and motivate staff to deliver high-quality, customer-focused services.

    Minimum requirements

    • A Postgraduate Degree qualification in Accounting or Finance (NQF 8).
    • Minimum of five (5) years’ relevant experience in an Accounts Receivable or Student Finance environment.
    • Proven managerial experience.
    • Sound knowledge of accounting and financial management principles.
    • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint).
    • Candidate should be prepared to be based on various UJ campuses.

    Central Compliance Officer (P8) (Finance: Financial Governance and Control Division: Risk & Assurance)

    Job Specification:

    • The Compliance Office is mandated by the Council to ensure that the Council and management and the staff members discharge their responsibilities to comply with the applicable compliance obligations, through the implementation of the compliance framework, policy, process, and services. The role of Central Compliance Officer supports the processes which reside within the compliance office for proper integration in the applicable departments.
    • UJ seeks to appoint a competent and strong-minded individual with the ability to implement a compliance process in the divisions of the University, to assist the central compliance office to operationalise compliance management in the University structures in line with its strategy.

    Responsibilities:

    • Implement the University’s Central Compliance Management Implementation Plan in the divisions.
    • Support management to identify, assess and manage compliance obligations in the divisions.
    • Plan and facilitate compliance workshops for the assessment of compliance risks.
    • Support compliance office to facilitate the development and maintenance of a compliance universe and cascade the relevant obligations in the divisions.
    • Monitor regulatory development on continuous basis to identify relevant developments and changes in the university regulatory landscape.
    • Continuously review and maintain the divisions compliance profiles.
    • Align the nominated unit compliance champions to the central compliance initiatives and solicit collaboration to implement the central compliance office initiatives.

    Minimum requirements

    • A BCom-Law or equivalent – (NQF 7) / Other legal qualification or Occupational Certificate: Compliance Officer (NQF 6) with a CISA recognised Postgraduate in Compliance - (NQF 8).
    • Three (3) years proven working experience in a field of compliance assisting in implementing the compliance program at institution-wide capacity (“corporate level or division-wide”).
    • Knowledge of the South African Legislative System.
    • Proficient in Microsoft Office Ms Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
    • Knowledge of Protection of Personal Information Act (POPIA).

    Job Description:

    • The UJ Law Clinic is part of the Faculty of Law and operates from four Centres: the Auckland Park Kingsway Campus, the Doornfontein Campus, the Soweto Campus, and UJ on Stanley. A clinic Attorney position must be filled at the Auckland Park Kingsway Campus Law Clinic, and the successful candidate may also be required to temporarily or permanently operate at either SWC, DFC, or UJoS, within the discretion of the Director. The appointment is an 8/8 permanent position. Through the application of Clinical Legal Education as a teaching and learning method, the UJ Law Clinic trains and assesses final-year LLB students. The attorneys and students assist community members with low or no income in pro bono legal cases
