    Senior GIS Analyst

    As a Senior GIS Analyst, you will be responsible for:

    • Research all new GIS technologies and possible applications in Sappi.
    • Investigate business needs for implementation of new GIS technologies and propose business cases.
    • Configure and develop GIS applications using existing GIS technologies available in Sappi. 
    • Maintain and support all GIS applications and provide user support.
    • Interact with GIS vendors and external entities regarding software maintenance and new technologies.
    • Differentially correct GPS data to accurately reflect the shape & location of the plot
    • Send all updated information to the relevant business owners
    • Provide GPS help desk support for users and assist with technical queries and support.
    • Create, manage and publish GIS services and customise ESRI (Environmental Spatial Research Institute) web applications, mobile applications, and the use in Operational Dashboards.
    • Administer user accounts using license portal.
    • Manage the ArcGIS training portal for all Sappi users.
    • Train users on the correct use of GPS capture devices and associated software
    • Manage the rollout and provide training on Operational Dashboard applications
    • Resolve incompatibilities caused by software upgrades

    What are we looking for:

    • Matric and Bachelor’s Degree in Information Systems, Environmental sciences  (Forestry, Agriculture, Environment), GEO-Informatics or equivalent
    • Minimum 5 years of GIS experience
    • Python and HTML5 knowledge will be advantageous.

    • Spatial analysis

    Coal Yard Assistant Energy - Ngodwana

    As a Coal Yard Assistant - Energy, you will be responsible for:

    • Operate on a shift basis the side arm charger as per safe work procedure.
    • Reclaim coal from stockpiles to relevant users as required.
    • Ensure the correct coal is delivered to the respective Boilers/Gas/Producer.
    • Move/remove trucks to and from the tippler.
    • Responsible for housekeeping of side arm charger, tippler, pit, and tippler structure.
    • Connect/disconnect rail trucks.
    • Check all trucks to ensure trucks are fully offloaded when removed.
    • Check that brakes of trucks are “on” when the truck is on the tippler for offloading.
    • Report all defects to Coal Yard Operator on a shift basis.
    • Ensure that not more than 15 trucks are moved by the side arm charger at a time.
    • Ensure that coal samples are taken on a Monday and sent to the laboratory for analysis.
    • Remove undesirable obstacles from rail lines to prevent derailments.
    • Ensure/monitor the correct running of the conveyor system to load coal silos to the correct levels
    • Move the stacker from one stockpile to another.
    • Release air brakes to all the trucks as soon as it’s placed for offloading.
    • Coordinate the removal of coal rejects.
    • Check the conveyor system on a shift basis and report defects to the operator.
    • Any other ad hoc requests from Shift Superintendent / Production. 

    What are we looking for?

    • Matric (Maths and Physical Science) or N3 Pulp and Paper
    • 0-6 months Manufacturing Experience

    Softwood Operator - Ngodwana

    As a Softwood Operator, you will be responsible for:

    • Perform pre-operational checks prior to start-up by physical checks, monitoring closed circuit television(CCTV) and SCADA control panel monitors.
    • Test the Metal Detector at the beginning of every shift and ensure it is repaired if faulty before starting up to prevent damage to the Chipper. 
    • Safely start up and shut down plant machinery.
    • Monitor plant during operation by physically checking through control room windows, CCTV and Scada control panel monitors.
    • Control the feeding of logs to prevent log blockages, misalignment and equipment damage.
    • Monitor and remove foreign material such as stones on conveyor system using CCTV monitor to prevent equipment damage.
    • Control log debarking operation on Debarker Drums to ensure quality chips.
    • Control log chipping operation to prevent/ minimise timber wastage by correct log feeding and timeous Chipper knife changes.
    • Identify abnormal/ emergency plant conditions and take corrective action according to Best Operating Procedure(BOP).
    • Isolate plant and issue work permits.
    • Clear log and bark blockages on conveyor systems.
    • Oversee and perform related tasks during knife change.
    • Monitor log quality and report deviations to Shift Superintendent.
    • Ensure plant is running at optimum state to deliver on daily production and quality targets.
    • Monitor chip stacking operation to ensure compliance to FIFO principle and continuous chip supply to customers using CCTV and SCADA monitors.
    • Communicate with Shift Superintendent, Screening and GW Operator with regards to abnormal conditions and breakdowns.
    • Communicate with Maintenance personnel with regards to Maintenance work and Production plan.
    • Communicate with SW Checker and Log Loading Contractor with regards to Production and daily action plans.
    • Coach and train new employees within area of responsibility.
    • Act in higher position when required and licensed.
    • Create plant maintenance notifications (SAP).
    • Record plant status and deviations on log book.
    • Sign off work permit after work completion and area inspection.

    What are we looking for? 

    • Matric with Maths and Physical Science or N3 Pulp and Paper with Maths and Science
    • 06 - 12 months experience in the Woodyard section.
