    Senior Lecturer/Lecturer in Pharmaceutical Chemistry

    Main Objectives

    • All academics are responsible for disseminating knowledge (teaching and learning), creating knowledge (research), and community engagement, recognizing differences in the execution of these responsibilities within the various departments and Faculties.
    • Academics are also expected to assume administrative, management, and/or leadership duties at the departmental, Faculty, and/or University level and contribute to their profession.
    • In addition, a Professor and Associate Professor provide academic leadership in teaching and learning, research, and community engagement and contribute towards the institution's governance. This leadership contribution of the Professor should be evidenced at the departmental, Faculty and institutional levels.

    The Requirements

    Lecturer

    • BSc, BSc (Hon) or BSc Eng and MSc degree in Process Chemistry, Chemical Engineering or a related field.
    • Current professional registration with the Engineering Council, or demonstrable eligibility to achieve such registration within 12 months, will be considered an added advantage.
    • Tutoring or facilitation experience in industry or tertiary education is required. Some experience with a tertiary learning management system interface to enhance student learning experience and engagement.
    • Ability to teach in some of the following disciplinary areas: Polymer Chemistry, Polymer Processing and Engineering, Process Engineering, Industrial and Applied Process Engineering, Process Design and Optimisation, Unit Operations and Systems, Quality Control, Quality Assurance and/or Quality Management Systems, Risk Management in processing.
    • Experience in teaching or working in other relevant areas of Engineering will be an advantage.
    • No research supervision is required.
    • No emerging national profile in the discipline is required.
    • A track record of administration, management, and/or leadership roles is necessary, and the leadership roles may be informal.

    Senior Lecturer

    • PhD degree in Process Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, or a related field. Candidates with a BSc (Hon) or BSc Eng and an MSc degree in Process Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, or a related field, with progress towards a PhD, will be considered at this level. As a guide, progress implies intended submission within the next 12 months.

    PLUS

    • Experience: Usually, 7 to 10 years of teaching experience. 

    OR

    • 7 to 10 years of professional experience in an engineering or an appropriate industry-related field.
    • Current professional registration with the Engineering Council, or demonstrable eligibility to achieve such registration within 12 months, will be considered an added advantage
    • Teaching experience in industry or at the undergraduate level is required—proficiency in customising and optimising a tertiary learning management system interface to enhance the student experience and engagement.
    • Experience in teaching or working in some of the following disciplinary areas: Polymer Chemistry, Polymer Processing and Engineering, Process Engineering, Industrial and Applied Process Engineering, Process Design and Optimisation, Unit Operations and Systems Quality Control, Quality Assurance and/or Quality Management Systems, Risk Management in processing.
    • Experience in teaching or working in other relevant areas of Engineering will be an advantage.
    • Good research supervision at the Master's level or higher is required.
    • Emerging national profile in the discipline.

    Readvertising: Psychologist III - Part-Time Position (20 Hours Per Week)

    Main Objectives

    • As a senior member of a team of psychologists and interns in the Counselling Centre, the primary purposes of this job are to provide comprehensive counselling and psychological support to students, provide advice to University staff members in managing students with psychological problems, assist the Manager of the Centre in the supervision and training of intern and qualified psychologists and to deputise for the Manager of the Centre when they are not available.

    The Job Requirements

    • Registration and compliant with the Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA) as a Counselling Psychologist with approximately 5 years’ relevant work experience over and above their internship. 

    Relevant experience includes: -

    • Any work with adolescents or individuals in early adulthood. The greater the diversity of this experience the better for example, experience in one-on-one counselling, group counselling and educational work. 
    • Those individuals with specific experience of working with university students will be at an advantage.
    • An ability to speak other official languages will be an advantage.
    • Individuals who have supervised Counselling Psychologist Interns will be at an advantage.

    Housekeeper

    The Department

    • Housekeeping Services is responsible for the cleanliness and hygiene of the university residences, departments, and all ancillary services. This includes Transit Housing, Janitoring Services, Laundry Services, Sewing Room, and Upholstery Services.
    • The Housekeeping department primarily provides a complete hospitality experience to our students and guests. We are committed to providing support to all areas in our care to enhance the academic project at Rhodes University.
    • This is an in-house staffed Division who are proud to be part of providing a conducive and effective teaching and academic learning environment.

    Main Objectives

    • Responsible for the supervision of staff cleaning all assigned areas within the University, falling under Housekeeping Services. This includes planning, leadership and co-ordination of cleaning services and staff within a particular residence Hall, to ensure an efficient and effective cleaning service to all residents or guests in the Hall. 
    • Also submits and follows up on all maintenance requisitions, furnishings, general upkeep of the buildings falling within the assigned area, and any other reasonable requests from the Line Manager.

    The Requirements

    Grade 12 with approximately 4 years’ relevant experience where such experience includes: -

    • Minimum of 3 years’ cleaning experience in an industrial environment where specific hygiene and cleaning practices were implemented
    • Previous administration experience within a computerized environment
    • Previous exposure, of not less than 6 months, of having worked with stock control and basic record keeping
    • Previous experience in having drafted daily schedules and related electronic correspondence
    • At least 2 years’ in a supervisory or team leader position OR be in possession of a 1-year Staff Supervision Certificate plus 1 years’ supervision experience (which doesn’t have to be obtained concurrently)
