    Assistant Superintendent Water & Sewer (Western Cape)

    Job Purpose:

    Coordination, prioritisation of activities and effective utilisation of personnel and plant in the operations at the Water and Sewer section whilst applying contingency measures in accordance with instructions to minimize specific problems, repairs and maintenance in the water and sanitation system network.

    Duties

    • Assists the Superintendent to co-ordinates tasks/ activities associated with the implementation of procedures and, monitoring and reporting on sequences/ outcomes
    • Assists the Superintendent to plan, prioritize and schedules water & sewer project and maintenance work
    • Co-ordinates and controls tasks/ activities associated with controlling personnel performance, productivity and discipline
    • Monitors and evaluates progress with regards to repair, construction, installation and maintenance type work (e.g. installation of underground pipelines, etc.)
    • Co-ordinates activities associated with the construction and installations of water and sewer networks
    • Co-ordinates, monitors and controls water and sewer repair and construction work at specific sites
    • To perform specific administrative tasks/ activities, delegated by the superintendent, associated with the updating and maintaining records/ information related to the activities/operations at the Depot
    • To Adhere to health and safety regulations in terms of OHS Act.

    Requirements

    • Minimum Requirements: Trade Certificate (Plumbing), 3 – 5 years relevant post apprenticeship experience.
    • Other Requirements: Code C1 Drivers’ license with PrDP, Computer literacy (MS Office Applications). Proficiency in at least 2 of the official languages of the Western Cape.

    Foreman Stettynskloofdam (Western Cape)

    Job Purpose: 

    To co-ordinate activities whilst ensuring an effective and efficient control and monitoring at the Stettynskloof Dam and Treatment Works in compliance with the relevant legislation including the purification and quality control of the potable water.

    Duties: 

    • Supervise tasks/activities associated with controlling personnel performance, productivity and discipline
    • Ensure that the section functions effectively and manage operations the plant to its optimal performance Performs specific tasks/ activities at the dam and Treatment Works relating to water storage and purification
    • Fault finding, maintenance and repair works at plant
    • Perform maintenance and repair work at pumps, motors, valves, bulk flow meters and other infrastructure
    • Performs monthly dam inspections as per DWS regulations and monitor maintenance of dams
    • Ensure the provision of safe portable water and to manage the WTW to its optimal performance
    • Coordinates and monitors the activities and operations of the Water Treatment Works
    • Ensure compliance with the prescribed drinking water standards and other related policies
    • Ensure optimal performance at the Stettynskloof water treatment works
    • Implement and coordinate risk-based water safety- and security planning and operational activities of the Water Treatment Works
    • Minimize any identified risks relating to potable water to ensure sustainable service delivery
    • Investigating and identify risk incidents associated with water quality, personal safety, plant safety, etc.
    • Ensure that all incidents are properly attend to.
    • Performs specific administrative tasks/ activities at the Water Treatment Works
    • Ensure good record keeping of all the activities and operations of the section
    • Adhere to health and safety regulations in terms of OHS Act
    • Ensure the safety of staff in terms of Potable water activities.

    Requirements

    • Minimum Requirements: Grade 10 or equivalent technical qualification. Driver’s License Code C1 with PRDP; and Basic Computer Literacy: MS Word / Excel, 3 - 5 years’ relevant experience (Water Treatment)
    • Other Requirement:  Class IV Process Controller Registration for Water Purification.

    Supervisor: Zwelethemba Swimming Pool (Worcester)

    Purpose:

    Supervises general and administrative tasks/activities associated with controlling and maintenance of the Zwelthemba pool facilities and surrounds, communicating instructions and attending to deviations from laid down procedures maintained acceptable standards supporting customer satisfaction and service delivery objectives.

    Duties:

    • Performs specific applications associated with the maintenance of the public swimming pools
    • Perform supervision and controls the tasks/activities of the personnel of the swimming pool and allocates and prioritises outcomes  
    • Monitors the storage and care of tools, materials and equipment
    • Completes internal transactional documentation (e.g. activity schedule, log sheet, etc.) and related forms (vehicle checklist) and/or provides general office support
    • Check and control all cash received  
    • To adhere to health and safety regulations in terms of OHS Act

    Requirements

    • Minimum requirements: Grade 12 or a relevant post matric qualification, Basic Computer Literacy: MS Office, 2  years relevant.

    Supervisor/Driver: Parks and Cemeteries (Worcester)

    Job Purpose:

    Performs supervisory activities associated with monitoring and reporting on the progress and execution of specific maintenance work of parks, open spaces and cemeteries in accordance with laid down instructions.

    Duties:

    • Driving and maneuvering the vehicles and engaging controls to operate mechanisms to facilitate specific sequences (tipping, hoisting etc.).
    • Supervise the maintenance of parks and open spaces
    • Oversee the spraying of weeds on sidewalks, open spaces, parks, cemeteries, center islands and spraying of trees for pests and diseases
    • Ensure the pruning and cutting of trees and roots, planting and staking of trees and picking up of branches and/ or items lying in open spaces
    • Discussing and scheduling priorities (site visits, etc.) and clarifying specific requirements for allocation and execution at sites
    • Manage the maintenance activities at the grave sites
    • Ensure that timesheets and attendance registers are completed by sub ordinates
    • Compile and write incident reports e.g. injury on duty, theft, vehicle accident
    • Supervising personnel / subordinates and temporary employees
    • Attend to grievance and informal disciplinary hearings and recommend appropriate disciplinary action
    • Ensuring that the designated vehicle is kept in a neat and tidy condition
    • Ensuring that all the administration relating to the refuelling of the designated vehicle is in accordance with the applicable Municipal Policy and Procedures
    • Ensure all staff wear appropriate PPE when performing duties
    • Ensure all staff adhere to standard operating procedures and instructions when utilizing specific machinery and equipment
    • Ensure all staff adhere to instructions pertaining to chemicals and reagents used.

    Requirements

    • Minimum Requirements: Grade 10;
    • Basic literacy; Driver’s licence code C1 and PrDP;
    • 1-2 years of relevant experience.

    Other requirements:

    • Supervisory skills;
    • Good interpersonal and communication skills;
    • Ability to work independently;
    • Attention to detail; and Proficient in at least two (2) of the three (3) official languages in the Western Cape.
