    QA Manager - Midrand

    Job Description

    To manage the Quality Assurance and Site Food Safety activity at the McCormick South Africa Plant. Accountability for the Quality Assurance Budget of approx. R9.5 million per year of which approx. R3.8 million is an outside spend with external laboratories.

    To pro-actively lead the Quality & Food Safety Management Program’s in the South Africa Plant thus ensuring compliance with Company, Regulatory, Third party and Customer standards, whilst achieving Quality objectives and KPI targets. 

    MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES

    • To manage the Performance and Development of the Site Quality Team at McCormick South Africa
    • To Lead the incident management process and provide training and coaching at site level
    • To be accountable for all Quality and Food Safety programs within the plant
    • To be responsible for the implementation of the EMEA, regulatory, Third party and Customer standards in the plant
    • To play an active role as a member of the Site’s Operations Leadership Team. To provide leadership on Quality and Food Safety issues in addition to supporting Operational activites undertaken within the plant.
    • Manage the plant Quality Budget, implementing appropriate Financial Controls to ensure that spend is appropriately managed and cost saving initiatives identified and initiated where appropriate.
    • To play an active and influential role in the Quality community for McCormick EMEA

    CANDIDATE PROFILE

    • Food Based Degree
    • Similar leadership role in a food manufacturing environment working within Quality Management Systems. Practical knowledge and experience of third party, Flavour solution Customer audit standards and requirements.
    • Ability to work autonomously, without direct supervision. Ability to work on own initiative as well as part of a team.   Good written and verbal communication skills. Ability to interact with multiple levels within the business as well as with external contactors and Customers.  Ability to provide supervision, conduct competency assessments and deliver training.
    • Working knowledge of SAP would be advantageous.  PC literate. Attention to detail.  Ability to interpret analytical and microbiological data. Willing and capable to learn new skills.  Must be willing to work in a manufacturing environment. Ability to effectively conduct root cause analysis and develop corrective and preventative action plans.  Ability to work strategically and with a pragmatic, operational mindset.
    • Practical experience in the application of HACCP, quality systems management, internal auditing, pest control, RCA & CAPA management.
    • Lead Assessor.  HACCP Level 4. Trained trainer. Yellow Belt six sigma or equivalent. Risk management and validation protocols (FMEA, IQ/OQ), practical knowledge of Major QSR, Snack and retailer quality & food safety requirements

    QA Lab Lead - Midrand

    Job Description

    This role involves providing leadership to the QA Lab Team at the South Africa facility to ensure sampling and analytical testing of materials and environmental samples is conducted in accordance with Company,

    Third party and Customer standards, whist achieving Quality objectives and KPI targets.

    MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES

    • Day to day leadership of the QA Lab Team including maintenance of HR data systems pertaining to the QA Lab team, conducting performance reviews and talent management.
    • Ensuring team members are trained and proficient in conducting sampling, analysis & reporting for raw materials, work in progress, finished products and environmental samples
    • Management of QA Lab budget and spending.
    • Ensuring all testing and associated QA lab and lab team activities are conducted in accordance with Company, Third Party and Customer requirements and in line with key quality performance indicators.
    • Conducting root cause analysis for material non-compliances and Customer complaints. Provide feedback / communication to key stakeholders on factors adversely affecting product quality.
    • Attendance and participation at routine plant performance review meetings
    • Quality notification management (raising, coordinating investigations and close out) and non-conformance management for raw materials (Shelf life extensions, Inventory At Risk).
    • Timely and accurate maintenance of data systems to ensure compliance to traceability standards and key performance indicators.
    • To support the Quality and Food Safety programs by assisting with the maintenance and implementation of procedures and work instructions as required to meet customer, third party audit standards.
    • Deputies as appropriate for Site QA Manager as appropriate in accordance with Incident Management protocols.

    CANDIDATE PROFILE

    • Similar role in a manufacturing environment working within Quality Laboratory and people management.
    • Demonstrable people leadership skills.
    • University degree in a related discipline.
    • Practical experience of Good Laboratory Practices. 
    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
    • Ability to interpret analytical and microbiological data.
    • Strong stakeholder management skills among multiple levels within the business as well as with external contactors and Customers. 
    • Ability to provide supervision and deliver training.
    • Knowledge and experience of SAP would be advantageous.
    • Ability to effectively conduct root cause analysis and develop corrective and preventative action plans.
