    Data Migration Developer

    The Role

    The ideal candidate for this role has a wide variety of technical, programming, and problem-solving skills. The candidate will design, develop, troubleshoot, and enhance applications developed in Java or COBOL. The candidate will be required to have a hybrid skillset that crosses platforms from mainframe, client server, and web-based applications to design solutions and provide support to project team members and customer resources. The candidate must have experience working in a structured software development environment and be familiar with common software development methodologies.

    The candidate MUST have the ability to analyze large datasets of varying formats, the ability to adapt to varying project requirements, and the willingness to learn and adapt. The candidate must have the ability to work remotely with a dynamic client base all with varying technical nuances and support requirements. Knowledge of the insurance industry is required.

    Job Duties

    • Gather requirements, design, develop, and enhance a custom data transformation program in either COBOL or Java
    • Support the setup and ongoing programming needs for conversion projects
    • Ability to review and understand source and target system file structures to support project team needs during conversion projects
    • Ability to use remote networking: monitor, enhance & maintain customer code and scripts
    • Contribute to Data Mapping, code generation application and transformation tasks
    • Use industry standard file transfer software
    • Communicate with UCT employees and business users (PMs, BAs and SMEs) to refine business requirements for customer data transformation programs
    • Create technical documentation

    Qualifications

    • University Degree in Insurance, IT or technical field
    • Good troubleshooting skills: Draw on wide systems experience to troubleshoot communication, network, and database issues in Windows, Unix/Linux, and mainframe environments
    • COBOL programming: Prior work experience
    • Java programming: J2EE, OO design/analysis, unit testing, System Development Lifecycle (SDLC) methodology
    • Good knowledge of SQL and general database concepts
    • Strong Working knowledge of mainframe and PC-based tools & languages
    • Ability to self-start, multi-task and manage conflicting priorities
    • Communicate effectively in both oral and written form
    • Demonstrate strong analytical and problem-solving skills

    Requirements

    • Experience working with Life Insurance Policy Administration Systems
    • Experience with Java programming and SDLC methodology
    • Experience in information/data analysis and data modeling
    • Experience with XML technologies and standards (XLS, DTD, XSD, etc.)
    • Experience with database administration & design: Oracle and SQL Server
    • B.S in computer science, engineering discipline or equivalent experience
    • Migration experience in the insurance industry (policy administration or agent)
    • Oracle, SQL Server, and DB2 Database platforms Application Server (WebSphere, WebLogic)

    Data Migration Specialist

    The Role

    The candidate will be responsible for analysis and mapping of legacy data structures to modern systems for insurance companies and other software organizations. Working as part of the project team, the Data Migration Specialist will work closely with clients and IT teams to extract, correct, test and transfer legacy system data to new systems. The candidate is also a subject matter expert in insurance products and systems and is looking to grow within a dynamic international context.

    Job Duties

    • Drive the data migration needs of the client around:
      • Policy administration, legacy data, business processes (especially life and annuity)
      • Technical processes
      • Solving incompatibilities between customer needs and legacy system data
    • Create, document and modify requirements using automated tools
    • Work with the team leads to identify and solve source and target system data gaps
    • Develop and document unit and integration testing using automated tools
    • Support the Project Manager with statuses and follow ups

    Qualifications

    • University Degree in an Insurance, IT or technical field
    • 5+ years of relevant and technical experience in insurance (business, operations or IT)
    • Insurance industry expertise (systems, products and processes)
    • Deep expertise with insurance products, processing, common data issues and data mapping
    • Fluency of English (spoken and written)
    • In-depth knowledge of at least one of the following or similar insurance systems: LifePro, InsPro, Sunguard, Ingenium, Vantage One, Cyberlife, CK4, Life70, CFO, Sapiens- ALIS, Accenture ALIP, PALLM, PolicyLink, Oracle OIPA, LIDP, FAST and Guidewire
    • In-depth knowledge of at least two of the following insurance company functional area: Customer service, Enrollment, Finance, Annuities, Policy Owner Services, Insurance Administration Systems, Underwriting and Policy Issue Systems, Premium Billing Systems, Agency Systems and Actuarial Systems
    • Ability to communicate, write and synthesize information
    • Strong sense of organization and prioritizing
    • Understand of the software development cycle

    Requirements

    • Experience working in a model office testing environment is an asset
    • FLMI of significant other insurance industry professional education is an asset
    • Fluency in Japanese, Spanish or French, are a plus
    • Ability to read COBOL copybooks and understand structure of a Java class
    • Versant in enterprise architecture concepts
    • Ability to read and write SQL statements
    • Ability to read XML, XSLT, XML Schemas
    • Prior experience with JIRA, Confluence and Slack
