    Laboratory Manager: Peripheral Laboratory (Central Region) (Permanent Position) Kimberley

    Job Summary:

    • To manage a laboratory to ensure achievement of a cost effective and high quality service in line with client needs and organisational objectives.

    Minimum Criteria Required:

    • National diploma in Biomedical Technology or BSc Medical Laboratory Science
    • Registration in relevant discipline with HPCSA

    Experience: 

    • 3-5 Yrs Relevant Working Experience
    • 0-1 Yrs Supervisor Experience

    Relevant Job Knowledge: 

    • Medical ethical guidelines in the medical pathology field
    • Laboratory information systems
    • Laboratory standards operating procedures and processes
    • Anatomy, physiology and medical terminology relevant to medical pathology

    Key Performance Areas: 

    • Assists with management of staff including recruitment, motivation,development and disciplining of staff where necessary to ensure that operational objectives are achieved.
    • Monitors the implementation of service levels and quality standards, ISO 9000, 15189 and lean processes in accordance with the principles of Good Laboratory Practice, SANAS accreditation requirements, Quality assurance including quality control, health and safety, standard

    • Implements and maintains laboratory accreditation, including preparation for audits, maintenance of current status, document updates and scope of approved tests, to ensure that accreditation is achieved or obtained in line with organisational objectives.
    • Monitors the maintenance and calibration of the equipment used in the laboratory to ensure that it is operating efficiently and providing accurate results. This includes ensuring that instrument maintenance and quality control results are recorded and reviewed as well as trouble shooting and corrective action is taken and documented.
    • Provides input into evaluation and validations of new equipment and methods to ensure standardisation and continuous technological advancement.
    • Oversees asset management and procurement of goods to ensure the most effective utilisation of resources, optimisation of stock levels and cost containment.
    • Generates management reports as required to monitor work and performance status of the laboratory and takes corrective action when required.
    • Performs investigations into and resolution of customer complaints to ensure a positive image of the organisation by clients and patients and to promote the services of Lancet laboratories.
    • Oversees and monitors training, seminars and participation in continuing professional development (CPD) activities to ensure that laboratory staff continuously update their knowledge and skills as well as comply with professional registration requirements. This includes ensuring the availability of up to date records that can be presented immediately on request thereof.
    • Oversees and performs on-site training of laboratory staff, interns, students, medical colleagues and associated health workers to ensure that they are competent in various laboratory techniques, processes and systems.
    • Adheres to professional conduct requirements in line with organisational policy and relevant professional body ethical standards and monitors compliance of own employees in this regard.
    • Performs the role of a medical technologist as required in accordance with operational needs.

    Storeman: Stores (Permanent Position)

    Job Summary:

    • Responsible for picking, selecting and packing of stock for laboratory or depot usage.

    Minimum Criteria Required: 

    • Grade 12 or relevant NQF level 4 qualification

    Experience:  

    • 2-3 Yrs Relevant Working Experience

    Relevant Job Knowledge:  

    • Stock in pathology environment
    • Stock in pharmaceutical environment

     Key Performance Areas: 

    • Checks the bin location to locate the item on the scanner, checks the expiry date, unit of issue, packaging string, packaging unit and condition of stock e.g. not broken/ damaged while retrieving stock from the shelves for end user consumption. Loading the heavy stock in the bottom of the trolley and the cold chain items on top e.g. fridge/ freezer stock. To ensure correct resulting and retrieval of the items.
    • Processes emergency orders to provide customer service as per stores supervisor instruction to ensure prompt customer service.
    • Hands over the selected items to the stores checker to pack stock in boxes or polystyrene containers for safe delivery.
    • Performs the packaging function if and when required for operational and functional purposes of the warehouse/ stores to ensure safe stock delivery.
    • Counts and records stock, on a control scanner in preparation for Warehouse quarterly stock take.
    • Ensures safe house-keeping by placing stock/ items in the correct bin locations, checks the condition of the stock e.g. not broken/ damaged, and ensures a clean and tidy working environment before closing of the bench gates after a shift.
    • Reports any discrepancies to the stores supervisor. Discrepancies relate to stock items e.g. broken or damaged, expired or any other condition that’s out of the ordinary to nsure a safe working environment.

    Transport Controller (Permanent Position)

    Job Summary:

    • Responsible for the all administrative functions of vehicle maintenance from registration, monitoring mileage and ensuring the road worthiness of all vehicles.

     Minimum Criteria Required: 

    • Grade 12 or relevant NQF level 4 qualification

    Experience:   

    • 3-5 Yrs Relevant Working Experience

    Relevant Job Knowledge:   

    • Computer literate

     Key Performance Areas:  

    • Collects and attaches petrol slips to vehicle checklists and sends it to HOD for checking.
    • Captures mileage and fuel consumption figures of vehicles daily to monitor fuel consumption and service requirements of vehicles to ensure that vehicles are serviced timeously.
    • Books vehicles in for services, drops off and collects vehicles after service to ensure that vehicles are in good condition to provide collections, transport or shuttle services.
    • Inspects vehicles on dispatch and on return of vehicles from shifts to detect damages and to check if spare wheel and other tools have not been removed from vehicles. Reports any anomalies to the Regional Collections manager.
    • Controls vehicle keys and petrol card issued and acquires signatures on issue to keep records on individual drivers responsible for keys and cards.
    • Assists drivers with completing accident reports to ensure that they are competed correctly and submitted timeously for claims to be settled and reports all accidents to the Regional Collections manager.
    • Attends to emergency breakdowns by arranging for vehicles to be towed and arranges alternative transport for samples to be delivered to ensure that vehicles are repaired and samples arrive timeously at Laboratories.
    • Reports drivers that are not correctly checking their vehicles at the start and end of shifts, to ensure that corrective action and training is provided to drivers.
    • Monitoring vehicles using Geotab system as necessary and reporting any deviations.
    • Assist with other related duties as assigned by management.
