    Assistant Catering Manager

    Description

    • Organize and co-ordinate the personnel, the supplies and equipment toward the achievement of a successful food service operation.
    • Supervise and delegate at the various stages of the food service operation. I.e., ordering, receiving, storing of goods, issuing, preparation, cooking, serving, cleaning, disposals, etc.
    • Exercise control over all of the procedures, safety procedures, shift co-ordination, leave procedures, hygiene and cleaning standards and procedures, financial control and security procedures.
    • Motivate and lead personnel in all the necessary areas of the food service operation.
    • Maintain good public relations between management, staff, customers and patients.
    • Check that the orders for non-perishable commodities are placed weekly, and that the orders for perishable commodities are placed as per the policy.
    • Check that the supervisors have completed the production schedule correctly and totaled the figures accurately for breakfast, lunch and supper. 
    • Check that the supervisor’s phone the wards half an hour before dishing up time for any extras that may be needed for each meal.
    • Ensure that the supervisors are present at the conveyor belt at all dish up times and that he/she is the last person in the line to check the tray before it is sent up to the wards. It is the responsibility of the Assistant Catering Manager and the Administrator to also be at the belt to check.
    • Ensure that the supervisors check the night food schedule and the plating of these meals, and that a system is put into place to control the issuing of these meals.
    • Ensure that the supervisors / store man check the stock levels daily.
    • Ensure that the stock take is done weekly, (according to the schedule set by head office).
    • Ensure that all the equipment, and the entire kitchen is cleaned on a daily basis and hygiene standards are maintained.
    • Ensure that the store man keeps his admin work up to date and that he maintains a high standard of neatness and organization in the storeroom at all times.
    • Ensure that all stock items are issued according to recipes and portion specs and that all products are used effectively to limit wastage in the kitchen.

    Requirements

    • Matric
    • Food Service Management Diploma (Advantageous)
    • 2 years’ experience as a Food Service Manager Assistant
    • Experience working in a hospital environment
    • Creativity i.e., for special functions
    • Good Communication skills
    • Knowledge of all phases of the technical operation
    • The ability to organize and plan successfully
    • The ability to analyze problems and solve them successfully

    Deputy Nursing Services Manager

    Description

    • Assist the Nursing Services Manager with the development, implementation and evaluation of the nursing strategic plan and sub-unit strategic plan.
    • Deputise in the absence of the Nursing Services Manager.
    • Attend meetings as requested by the Nursing Services Manager.
    • Ensure the implementation and adherence to nursing standards and policies.
    • Assist with the selection and appointment of staff.
    • Implement and monitor the induction of employees.
    • Implement and monitor in-service training.
    • Monitor and manage staff absenteeism.
    • Implement a system for mentoring.
    • Define, evaluate and correct the job descriptions and the scope of practice of staff identified where necessary.
    • Ensure a positive working environment conducive to Continuous Professional Development.
    • Evaluation, JPM and provide guidance to Unit Managers.
    • Liaison between various departments in the multi-disciplinary team.
    • Commitment to change is built by the mobilisation of resources to implement agreed changes.
    • Monitor of staffing levels, based on the acuity levels in departments.
    • Manage client expectations according to the Melomed client services policies.
    • Weekly check of Unit Managers Schedule Drug audit report.
    • Analysis of all incident reports, root cause, interventions and outcomes.
    • Evaluate and manage all patients / visitor POS issues.
    • Evaluate infection control processes, interventions and outcomes.

    Requirements

    • Registration with the South African Nursing Council as a Professional Nurse.
    • Minimum 4 years’ experience in the capacity of a Unit Manager.
    • Must have a Diploma and / or relevant qualifications in Nursing Admin.
    • A post basic quantification in ICU or Trauma will be an advantageous.
    • Must have excellent MS Office computer skills, i.e. Outlook, Word, Excel, Kronos, etc.

    Unit Manager - Theatre

    Description

    • Registration with the South African Nursing Council as a Registered Nurse
    • Post Basic Diploma in Operating Theatre Technique
    • 5 years Operational Experience in a Theatre Unit
    • Scrub experience in Cardiothoracic Neurosurgery and or Ophthalmology will be advantageous
    • Previous experience in a management position will be advantageous
    • Knowledge of the legislative and Occupational Health and Safety requirements
    • Valid Driver’s licence and ability to travel
    • Afterhours availability – own transport
    • Work flextime

    • Manage staff according to the Basic Conditions of Employment and the Disciplinary Code, staff-planning and Recruitment and Selection of staff
    • Manage the day to day problem solving.
    • Stock and equipment management including ordering of stock and equipment
    • Accurate billing of stock utilised
    • Training and development of Theatre staff
    • After hours cover as per a roster
    • Conduct regular inspections
    • Maintain infection control strategies and procedures of the hospital
    • Maintain health and safety principles
    • Maintain and apply the required discipline
    • Evaluation, intervention and resolution of patient complaints and queries
    • Prepare daily, weekly and monthly reports
    • Manage ad hoc projects as and when required
