    General Assistant

    • The purpose of this role is to assist the truck operator in collecting products from the silos and delivering them to the blasting face. The individual will be responsible for the housekeeping and maintenance of the vehicle, refilling area, and other work areas. All tasks and duties must be performed in compliance with statutory, legal, client, and BME requirements and standards, without any shortcuts.

    What You Will Be Responsible For:

    • Risk assessment and Safe work declarations to be done with the blaster at the place of work before entering workplace as per client requirements.
    • Assist MMU with charging up blasting holes and filling up MMU with products.
    • Assisting the blaster for preparing the blast / charge-up area by meeting all the statutory, legal, client and BME requirements/standards/prescriptions.
    • Together with the Blaster, inspects the site to determine the target block and to plan the blasting process.
    • Marks off the working area by erecting the prescribed barricading material as prescribed by the client.
    • Required to map the holes to ensure that all the required holes correctly placed.
    • Required to measure and check the depth of the holes, and to ensure that they are all correctly drilled within the prescribed parameters.
    • In the event of detecting any deviations from prescriptions, responsible for behaving assertively and taking the necessary steps to rectify matters, e.g., by interacting and communicating to mine staff, drill contractor or the Foreman.
    • On instruction from the Blaster, required to collect the correct accessories to carry out the blasting assignment successfully.
    • Responsible to place all detonators and boosters at the collar of the hole to prepare for priming of the blast holes as per the blast plan issued by the mine.
    • Responsible for priming the holes by carefully inserting detonators into boosters, attaching weigh-down material to the primer, and lower this primer in the hole under the supervision of the blaster.
    • Any additional ad hoc duties must be completed within the specified timeframe

    Operator 2 (RO Plant)

    • To operate the Reverse Osmosis Plant (RO Plant) and ensure that the specified conditions on the plant are met and samples are taken accordingly. All activities, roles and responsibilities are aligned to the world class (manufacturing) philosophy, principles and practices.

    WHAT YOU WILL BE RESPONSIBLE FOR

    To ensure Safety adherence on shift:

    WHY THIS ROLE MATTERS (PURPOSE)

    • To pick, receive, load incoming and outgoing orders to and from the trucks in a safe and secure manner as well as perform housekeeping tasks when required within the magazine and yard.

    WHAT YOU WILL BE RESPONSIBLE FOR

    • To perform all magazine activities in compliance with standard operating procedures, regulation and legislation (this includes: receiving, put-away, picking, loading and cycle counts).
    • To identify and report any concerns and/or issues pertaining to the status of inventory to relevant supervisor.
    • To complete inventory cycle counts as per the schedule provided by the Stock Controller and investigate all discrepancies.
    • To position and transfer stock in a magazine as per the instructions provided by supervisory staff in order to ensure to efficient use of space (ensure floor to system matching), and FIFO management of stock.
    • To perform effective housekeeping of the magazine and yard so that these areas are neat, tidy, safe and comply with all SHERQ and legislative requirements

    Magazine Master

    • The purpose of this role is to administer and safeguard the stocks in the magazine as per legal and client requirements. Delivery of explosives to the blasting face and the checks of all old explosive's boxes on a daily basis and to assist the blaster with the preparation of blast blocks.

    What You Will Be Responsible For: 

    • Receives finished blasting accessories / explosives from the plant as well as other orders placed by the Explosives Coordinator.
    • Ensures that explosives are off-loaded and packed in the magazine in an orderly, secure and safe manner.
    • Checks received blasting accessories / explosives against the delivery note and signs it.
    • Books the newly arrived load into the Register Book.
    • Verifies the physical delivery with the driver.
    • Informs the Explosives Coordinator for further action when discrepancies are detected.
    • Receives Schedule of Orders from the Scheduling Coordinator.
    • Checks that the Continuous Transport Permit (CTP) corresponds to the order.
    • Completes the pre-issue checklist to make sure that the vehicle and driver comply with all prescriptions, prior to loading of the order.
    • Requests the driver to rectify the matter or otherwise contacts the Explosives Coordinator for higher level action in the event of non-compliance.
    • Signs and files the checklist in the event of compliance.
    • Ensures that the order is moved from the magazine, loaded and stacked on to the accessories transport vehicle in and orderly and safe manner.
    • Makes out a Delivery Note / Requisition for the order and hands over a copy to the driver and a copy to the Administrator.

    Junior Commercial Analyst

    Why This Role Matters (Purpose):

    • To assist with commercialising BME's Metallurgy's business processes and services, by undertaking commercial financial evaluation and analysis, analysing customers, market and organisational capabilities. To assist in managing and compiling bids, including financial modelling to determine the commercial viability of the bid and driving the submission of key bids from receipt to contract signature. To conduct ongoing customer contract commercial health management and analysis to optimize resources. To ensure information is available and kept up to date for customer bids.     Pricing Management

    • Provide financial modelling support on the commercial viability of various business opportunities and customer proposals (through active collaboration with a variety of stakeholders) and facilitate approvals as per Delegation of Authority
    • Perform financial analysis on pricing actions / decisions and the impact across the business and its products and services, identify and quantify pricing-related performance improvement opportunities, and assist in the development and implementation of effective financial analysis and pricing models to understand business opportunities.

    • Assist in drafting the commercial elements of products and services solutions contract and ensure that the contract incorporates BME's necessary terms and conditions for optimal commercial engagements. Work with the applicable legal representative(s) during contract negotiations with regards to those contractual terms that fall within the remit of the legal team
    • Establish and administer the bid repository / library to ensure generic bid information is readily available and kept up to date to simplify the bid submissions
    • Be the BME tender lead on key bids, where the responsibility will include identifying key tasks that need to be completed, assigning responsibilities and deadlines and following up to ensure the submissions from the functional representatives are received from bid receipt to contract signature.
    • Assist in administering the bid register

    Contract lifecycle management

    • Ensure that customer contract register is updated with all salient commercial features of customer contracts to enable visibility across the business and monitor for any contract exposures
    • Monitor the adherence to contracts and original business cases
    • Monitor client contract renewals and ensure that all commercial restructures are priced, evaluated and recorded appropriately.
    • Ensure that commercial components of contracts are executed into the ERP system

    Commercial Optimisation

    • Assist in identifying opportunities to improve utilisation of resources with the aim of improving the overall profitability of BME through rigorous analysis and providing insights

    Blaster

    Why This Role Matters (Purpose):

    • To ensure that all the prescribed duties are carried out in preparation for a blast, performing the blast and concluding post-blasting tasks, in line with all statutory, legal and BME SHERQ requirements. And to ensure that all excess accessories after the blast are recorded and to be destroyed according to the relevant mine standards at a place designated by the mine manager. 

    What You Will Be Responsible For: 

    • Ensures that the correct accessories necessary to carry out the blasting assignment are drawn from the magazine once the blast design / accessory order is received where applicable.
    • Ensures that inspections of the vehicle are completed and that the pre-use checklist filled in prior to the use of the accessory transport vehicle.
    • Ensures that all the tasks necessary for preparing the blast are carried out in accordance with statutory/legal/BME requirements, including priming, pumping and stemming, timing design, as well as all the SHERQ requirements.
    • Approves the blasting after ensuring the safety of the area and that the all the required pre-blast procedures have been correctly carried out.
    • Ensures that the required inspections are made.
    • Responsible for declaring the area safe after the blast.
    • Ensures that the necessary administration and reporting are completed.
    • Supervises the work of Blasting Assistants and mixer-placer trucks.
    • Deals with unacceptable behaviour.
    • Escalates serious offences to Foreman.
    • Allocates relevant housekeeping tasks to the blasting team and ensures completion thereon.
