    Superintendent Geology UG

    Job Purpose:

    • To assess and understand in situ rock mass, grade and structure, and provide geological models for mine design planning, resource modelling, evaluation and survey purposes.

    Minimum Required Qualification:

    • NQF 8 - BSC (Hons) in Geology
    • Affiliation to relevant professional bodies (e.g. SACNASP, GSSA).

    The Appointee should:

    • NQF 8 - BSc (Hons) in Geology
    • At least 5 years’ experience in a related role, of which 2 years should have been at a supervisory level or experience in a functional/specialist area.
    • Affiliation to relevant professional bodies (e.g. SACNASP, GSSA)

    Key Responsibilities:

    • Manage the Geology Section teams, systems and processes. Analyse and interpret Geological data and reports and take corrective actions as required. Provide effective problem-solving support to the Geology teams. Participate in the daily Geology meeting. Plan and manage Mining resources (personnel, equipment and materials) as required. Maintain and update the Shaft schedule
    • Operations: Setting and maintaining geological standards to support the achievement of optimum grade. Report and advise on compilation and submission on: Geological conditions and observations and interpretation thereof. Geological Plans. Review and advise on maximum and optimum exploitation of the ore body and shaft ore reserve performance. Responsible for maintaining and improving the effectiveness of the geological component of the mineral resources team by: Validating and grading geological data. Designing geological model (structure and grade). Providing grade histograms. Instigating remedial action to observed deviant practices with regard to grade control. Prepare LOM exploration and sampling programmes – for approval at Operation. Interpreting and analysing geological information for prediction of future resources. Assessing and modelling viability of targeted resources. Validating all data and derived results. Identify potential and problematic resources and ore reserves. Stop dangerous or non-standard practices. Implementation and administration of necessary systems. Providing reports on adherence to standards and efficiencies. Providing input to planning (i) LOM, (ii) 5 year, (iii) 1 year, (iv) Monthly. Provide input in ore flow statement-compilation of the grade equation. Provide inputs into site specific standards for (i) Sampling, (ii) Mapping, (iii) Logging, (iv) Exploration activities. Log boreholes (enter into Database) and mapping of exposures underground. Update geological models (Software): Structure, Geology (all aspects e.g. water, methane, lithological). Input data into various database: Software (boreholes), MRM (underground sampling), Software (geological structure). Develop and implement necessary diamond drill programmes (exploration and cover).     • Mining Risk Management. Contribute to the management of risk within own field of expertise. Assess Mining risks and incorporate mitigating controls. Maintain and update the Mining component of the risk register. Geology Projects: Identify Geology improvement opportunity. Implement Geology improvement projects and initiatives. Supervise a project team of a Geology project to deliver project objectives. Contribute to the management of project risk within own field of expertise. Develop a simple schedule to facilitate effective project execution. Monitor, evaluate and communicate simple project schedules.
    • Stakeholder Relations: Building and maintaining relationships with stakeholders across the organisation and externally at all levels and cross-functionally.     Supervisor Engineering Mechanical UG

    Job Purpose:

    • To oversee the overall maintenance function of mechanical equipment, by preparing and modifying specifications and calculations; and monitoring work for compliance with applicable codes, accepted practices and standards.

    • National N2 Certificate or higher with suitable mechanical background
    • Relevant valid Artisan Trade Certificate (Section 13 or Section 26D) with proof of formal learnership programme

    Job Purpose:

    • To be responsible for the ownership, coordination and maintenance of all electronic laboratory information and data (results) within the lab

    Key Responsibilities:

    • Database & Information System Management1  Ensure compliance to organisational best practices and information system controls, i.e. quality standards, processes and procedures.  Emphasise adherence to system standards, policies and procedures by providing technical support and guidance to system users.  Confirm that data and information are captured in line with administrative requirements, accuracy and timeframe standards to ensure the integrity and consistency of data and information output.  Ensure that all instrument information and data are sufficiently secured.  Allocate sample identity (barcode) as per client request and add to LIMS / MES database.  Mentor, advise and provide job assistance on all specialised information software to ensure effective information system administration.  Utilise appropriate feedback structures for safekeeping and effective dissemination of information.  Provide analytical and instrumentation input in analysis method development.  Conduct LIMS configurations and manage change internally for the Lonmin Value Change requests and external Service provider upgrades.  Conduct LIMS software installations for a network of 20 computers locally and train 70 end users.  Program system to schedule work, change accordingly, test scheduling and correct errors.  Manage audit trail of all transactions and maintain archives thereof.  Take sole ownership and responsibility for the LIMS functionality.
    • System Management  System Management Performance & Maintenance  Conduct system checks and reviews to monitor usage, reliability and availability.  Monitor system performance to identify system failures, system inefficiencies and improvement opportunities.  Recommend possible solutions to system failures, system inefficiencies and improvement opportunities.  Troubleshoot to proactively identify risks, and report to the relevant authority.  Provide and implement measures to maintain data and information integrity.  Create structures to ensure the availability of data and information to relevant stakeholders.  Faultfinding to establish the root cause of incorrect data as identified by reporting.  Design and recommend a backup strategy for each financial year ending.  Implement and maintain features and standards for system changes.  Ensure that labelling printers are maintained.  Ensure that all electronic hardware is maintained.  Emphasise alignment of systems implementation with Lonmin’s long term strategies.  Remotely connect to Lonmin network servers to fix system errors.  Identify reporting and system errors and liaise with clients upon correction.  Continuously add samples and make changes as per client request (includes the removing of samples from the system).  Integration & Optimisation  Participate in the development, implementation and monitoring of specialised software standards, policies and procedures.  Make recommendations for systems design and re-design.  Be aware of new developments in systems technology and specialised software applications through benchmarking.  Proactively investigate alternative solutions to reduce systems failures and inefficiencies.  Provide support on SACO & SCADA systems.  Make recommendations as well as provide advice to drive data integrity and security.  Attend and implement learnings of National LIMS Customer Education Conferences and upgrade seminars.  Conduct test methods of new analytical methods.  Write integration scripts for instrument interfaces and Lonmin Processing Metals accounting system as well as Mining mineral resources, ensuring that data transacting is timeous and correct for Mining shafts, Concentrator Plants, BMR and Smelter operations, and Lonmin Metals and Financial forecasting.  Technical  Confirm compliance to system standards, policies, procedures and legislative requirements.  Mentor, advise and provide on-the-job assistance on all specialised information software.  Conducting system checks and reviews and monitoring performance.  Troubleshooting and fault-finding.  Identify system failures, system inefficiencies and improvement opportunities.  Participate in the design and re-design of systems, as well as the implementation of new systems.  Maintain data and information integrity on information systems.
    • Sample Management  Printing of barcodes for samples received.  Obtain quotes related to barcode roles, ribbon prices, scanners and software upgrades for ordering.  Effective categorisation of sample identities.  Maintain barcode database.
    • System Security & Data Protection  Implement and maintain security compile and report on system users failing to adhere/comply with system requirements.  Participate in the design of system security in collaboration with appropriate and relevant vendors.  Assist and ensure that database backup and recovery procedures are in place and ensure that they are current, to ensure system recovery in case of system failure and worst-case disaster recovery.  Create and index back-ups in line with organisational and external requirements.  Execute system maintenance and administration procedures to minimise incidents of lost data.  Protect data through controlling access to, and availability of specific data and information to relevant stakeholders.

    • Financial Management  Managing the finances of the Division to achieve Organisational objectives.  Create purchase requisitions for ordering of materials and services.  Create mine store reservation for ordering of materials and services.  Create service entry sheet for payment processing on orders of materials and services invoiced.  Pull commitment reports to see outstanding items on Budget Cost.  Pull actual cost reports for analysis to be charged to the respective plants.  Take responsibility for the costing of work conducted and charge outs to Lonmin business units.     Job Purpose:

    • The Plant Millwright is responsible to provide engineering technical service to a specific Plant Supervisor and Team Leader within one of the sections of the BA Process.

    The Appointee should:

    • NQF 4 (National Senior Certificate / Grade 12 or equivalent) with English Literacy
    • N2 Industrial Electronics
    • N2 Electrical Trade Theory

    • Facilitates and assesses the RPL process of the regulated Security Skills programme 1 – 5, as well as security related training as the need business needs dictate.
