    Producer/Presenter: Current Affairs (Sesotho, Bloemfontein, Free State)

    MAIN PURPOSE OF THE POSITION:

    • To produce and present Sesotho Audio News and Current Affairs content and programmes as part of a team that broadcasts, publishes and posts newsworthy, compelling, accurate and fair stories for its target audience.

    KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES:

    • Initiate, produce, broadcast, publish and post Sesotho News and Current Affairs content as assigned.
    • Produce and present Audio Current Affairs programmes, Special Programmes / Broadcasts and Outside Broadcasts.
    • Identify, initiate, brainstorm, research, plan, record, produce, broadcast, podcast, publish and post Current Affairs stories and material that are newsworthy, compelling, accurate and fair for the target audience.
    • Plan and deliver the content of identified Current Affairs stories and programmes.
    • Adhere to specific language requirements.
    • Interpret and analyse the undercurrents in and subtexts of stories.
    • Conduct field, archival and other research.
    • Conduct interviews and Q&As.
    • Write / script, translate, voice, edit and package stories.
    • Deliver Current Affairs content / programmes on time.
    • Establish and maintain news networks and contacts.
    • Engage professionally with the target audience to promote and enhance News and Current Affairs, including on social media.
    • Adhere to South Africa’s Constitution, all laws, ICASA licence conditions and regulations, the BCCSA and Press Council codes and rulings, the SABC Editorial Policies, style guide and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) etc.

    REQUIREMENTS:

    • National Diploma / Degree in Journalism or Media Studies or any related equivalent qualifications (NQF 6 / 7)
    • 4 years’ experience in the audio / radio news and journalism environment
    • Must be fluent in reading, speaking and writing Sesotho with a good command of English
    • Have a good understanding of social media and its usefulness as a journalistic tool
    • Keep abreast of news, current affairs, trends and developments
    • Excellent general and news knowledge
    • Good and clear broadcast voice
    • Sound understanding of current social, economic and political trends
    • Good ability to plan, organize and work in a team
    • Good ability to work under pressure, including long and irregular hours
    • Good understanding of the news, media and broadcasting environment

    Video Journalist KZN

    Main Purpose of the Position:

    • To deliver stories and content of the highest audio-visual quality in accordance with SABC News and Current Affairs’ editorial objectives and in fulfilment of its public mandate obligation

    Key Accountabilities:

    • Deliver audio-visuals of the highest editorial quality for broadcast, publishing, and posting
    • Brainstorm and discuss story angles and treatment with editors and reporters ahead of coverage
    • Advise reporters and the editorial team on the most compelling audio-visuals of the story
    • Video edit stories and packages for News and Current Affairs
    • Set up and coordinate facilities for live broadcasts
    • Ensure that all audio-visuals and overall output adhere to prescribed editorial principles and SABC News and Current Affairs quality standards
    • Deliver audio-visual content to SABC News and Current Affairs digital platforms
    • Minimise risk of loss or damage to property and equipment
    • Take excellent care of assigned assets for use in reporting, such as the camera and ancillary equipment, ensuring they are always secure
    • Use assigned resources appropriately and efficiently
    • Immediately alert the provincial and/or assignment editors to any damaged or broken equipment
    • Communicate with internal stakeholders to ensure optimal delivery of News and Current Affairs’ objectives

    Requirements:

    • Demonstrable experience in off-site video editing
    • Willingness and ability to work on breaking news, Outside Broadcasts (OBs), and special broadcasts
    • Understanding of applicable broadcast legislative frameworks and regulations
    • Knowledge and understanding of News and Current Affairs production systems, processes, and workflows
    • Excellent news awareness, sense, and judgement
    • Good photographic sense and sharp eye for detail
    • Physical fitness to carry and manage equipment
    • Ability to work under pressure and irregular hours, as well as to drive long distances

    Senior Bulletin Writer: Setswana

    MAIN PURPOSE OF THE POSITION:

    • To lead, guide and provide editorial direction to the Setswana Audio News / Radio Bulletin and Production team with the Bulletin Editor in providing depth of coverage to current issues by investigating and exploring angles of news stories, developments and trends.

    KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES:

    • Lead effective, efficient and creative brainstorming sessions for Setswana Audio / Radio News Bulletins and content selection in accordance with SABC News and Current Affairs’ editorial objectives and the public mandate.
    • Compile a newsworthy list / running order of Bulletin stories in consultation with the Bulletin Editor.
    • Correct linguistic, grammatical and factual errors.
    • Attend daily and weekly national diary / editorial and planning meetings with or at the request of the line manager.
    • Determine and assign stories and continuously give direction to the team.
    • Ensure that all stories adhere to the highest quality of editorial and language standards.
    • Continuously follow-up on the progress and angles of stories until delivered for broadcasting, posting and publishing.
    • Research, analyse and understand the undercurrents, subtexts and nuances in news stories, developments and trends to determine their importance, relevance and impact on the target audience.
    • Determine different news angles and updates for each story to pursue for broadcasting, posting and publishing.
    • Ensure adequate planning of Bulletins.
    • Write, translate, voice, edit and read (“present”) quality stories in accordance with all platform requirements.
    • Brief Bulletin Writers / Readers on different story angles to pursue.
    • Verify all audiovisual content, material and scripts to ensure factual accuracy, balance and fairness of Bulletins and all digital / online / social media content.
    • Brief technical team members, where applicable, on the Bulletin running order and collaborate in preparing for broadcasts.
    • Write and produce strong headlines / teasers with defining, meaningful and memorable news story soundbites / audio content.
    • Print scripts and running orders according to the required Bulletin structure and deadlines.
    • Engage in, co-ordinate and check online / digital / social media activity and content to enhance Bulletins.
    • Perform and assign tasks to Bulletin Writers / Readers (social media, follow-ups and breaking stories etc).
    • Continuously review Bulletins for improvements.

    REQUIREMENTS:

    • National diploma / degree (NQF 6 / 7) in journalism, media studies or relevant equivalent qualification.
    • 6 years’ proven experience in writing, translating, producing, voicing and reading News Bulletins and Current Affairs programmes.
    • Setswana proficiency and fluency, including exceptional writing, translating, reading and speaking / presenting skills to optimise impact of editorial content.
    • Excellent command of written and spoken English.
    • Good, clear broadcast voice.
    • Strong news sense, editorial judgement, general knowledge and attention to detail.
    • Professional communication and interaction with all stakeholders.

    Senior Technician Western Cape

    MAIN PURPOSE OF POSITION:

    • Effective & efficient support of technology, operations and resources to install, sustain and provide administration of broadcast systems/ facilities, equipment, servers and networks in order to ensure optimum, functional, secure and available facilities/ equipment for SABC Technology

    KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES

    • Contribute (technical) submissions to Divisional Strategy in alignment with the Corporate Plan and the Target Operating Model.

    MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

    • 3 year National Diploma (S4/T3) in Electrical Engineering (Light Current, Communications, Computer Studies or Information Technology)  (NQF6)
    • BTech for the Electrical Engineering for the above formal qualification as an added advantage
    • Driver’s License: OB - Code 10
    • Driver’s License: minimum B (specific to the Job Profile)
    • Minimum of 5 years’ relevant experience in the technical broadcast environment, of the 5 years a minimum of 1 year at a shift/standby competence (full performer) Technician level in technical maintenance, system support of broadcasting equipment and client services

    KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS

    • IT Network knowledge Essential. Computer literate (A+) and Network knowledge (N+)
    • IT Network knowledge advantage CISCO CCNA (ICDN1 +ICDN2) certified.
    • Physical attributes: Excellent hearing and eyesight (no colour blindness). Physically able.
    • Excellent communication skills and ability to work in a team and lead the team if required.
    • Proficiency in MS Office, i.e. Excel, Word, Outlook and Power Point.
