    Associate Professor.2.01

    Brief Description        
    Key Responsibilities

    • Deliver high-quality teaching in molecular cell biology at undergraduate and postgraduate levels
    • Supervise postgraduate research students
    • Maintain an active research program with a focus on cancer research
    • Raise grant funding to support research and postgraduate training activities
    • Contribute to curriculum development and academic administration
    • Participate in departmental and institutional teaching and research, and all academic activities
    • Engage in collaborative research initiatives
    • Assist with relevant departmental administration around research, teaching and training.

    Essential Qualifications and Experience

    • PhD, with extensive knowledge and background in Molecular Biology or Cell Biology
    • Proven track record of successful postgraduate student supervision to completion
    • Established independent research program with evidence of sustained funding and publication output
    • Strong record of university service and academic citizenship
    • Expertise in molecular cell biology with demonstrated ability to teach at both undergraduate andpostgraduate levels
    • Strong publication record in peer-reviewed journals
    • Evidence of successful grant applications and research funding
    • Experience in curriculum development and implementation
    • Track record of successful postgraduate student supervision
    • Evidence of innovative teaching methods and student engagement

    Senior Lecturer (Epidemiology

    Brief Description        
    Responsibilities

    • Teach epidemiology to Wits SPH students and short course participants
    • Lead and co-ordinate epidemiology courses in the Wits SPH
    • Actively participate in Wits SPH postgraduate students’ research supervision and mentoring
    • Contribute to and play a leading role in the development and expansion of the Wits SPH Epidemiology research portfolio
    • Actively participate in the academic endeavours of the school
    • Represent the school in epidemiology discourse and fora

    Requirements

    • At least three years formal teaching experience in epidemiology or a related quantitative field
    • Supervision of post-graduate students to completion
    • Ability to lead a quantitative research programme and to deliver high-quality research results
    • Publication of at least 8 articles in peer-reviewed journals
    • Interest in and commitment to building research capacity

    Associate Professor (AC09)

    Brief Description        
    Duties:

    • The successful applicant will be expected to register for a doctorate (PhD) degree in physiology, generate research outputs, teach physiology and/or medical biochemistry to students in the health sciences, and to participate in other academic activities of the Department.

    Minimum qualifications:

    • The minimum qualification is an Honours degree in physiology or medical biochemistry, or a related biomedical discipline. Applicants with professional degree qualifications (eg. MBBCh, BPharm, BSc (Physiotherapy, etc.) will also be considered.

    Advantages:

    • Some experience in teaching in a health science context, and a strong interest in one of the existing research themes of the Department, would be advantageous.

    Senior Director of Research

    Brief Description        
    Key responsibilities include the following:

    • Developing research and innovation strategic plans that align with Wits 2033 Strategy
    • Directing the University Research and Innovation Committee (UR&IC) – a Senate and Council sub-committee appointed to oversee research
    • Preparing the annual research budget and controlling its expenditure.
    • Implementing initiatives and providing core services including ethics oversight that will promote research and support researchers.
    • Managing a large group of people in the broader research office that contribute to a research conducive environment.
    • Implement programs that facilitate interdisciplinarity, innovation and an inclusive graduate culture
    • Development and implementation of an integrated approach for researcher development that includes supporting and mentoring staff pursuing doctoral studies and emerging researchers trying to establish a career in their areas of specialisation.

    • Provide leadership and support to grow the profession of research and innovation managers and administrators across the University.

    Requirements:

    • PhD Degree or equivalent
    • At least 10 years’ experience in research project management including pre- and post-award activities and people management including performance management.
    • A strong research or research management track record. Appointment as an Associate or Full professor will be a significant advantage.
    • Experience in ensuring compliance with a strong regulatory framework for finance, staff management and payments.
    • Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to interact across a broad range of society –including business, government and other national stakeholders as well as with students, staff (academic and professional staff), alumni, donors and potential donors across diverse cultures

    The following factors will be taken into account:

    • Evidence of publications in accredited journals,
    • Current or future research areas and how this research will be compatible with and/or strengthen the research activity within the School,

    Professor 2.01

    Brief Description        
    Qualifications:

    • Applicants must hold a doctorate in Computer Science or related fields and have evidence of teaching experience and demonstrated excellent teaching at a tertiary institution.
    • The applicant must have an excellent track record of supervision of postgraduate students.
    • Individuals with research interests in machine learning, data science, big data analytics or cybersecurity will be considered.
    • Furthermore, the applicant must have evidence of research and publications in top-tier conferences proceedings, journals and/or scholarly books.
    • Evidence of academic citizenship (University administration) and a South African NRF rating are advantageous (if available). A strong evidence of research outputs, evidence of supervision of postgraduate students and teaching experience at a tertiary level is necessary. 

    Duties:

    • The successful applicant will be expected to teach computer science related courses, at undergraduate and postgraduate levels, supervise and/or co-supervise postgraduate students, participate in academic administration and develop a productive research programme.

    Associate Lecturer

    Brief Description        

    • Digital Arts is recruiting an Associate Lecturer in Writing and Interactivity on a Three-Year Fixed Term Contract with the intention for the incumbent to be appointed into a permanent Lecturer position at the end of the contract, should they meet the objectives set upon employment. The Associate Lecturer post is primarily intended to allow candidates passionate about moving into academic research and teaching roles to enter the institution. The post will also support them in developing the required skills and qualifications to apply for a full Lectureship by completing a PhD by the end of the contract period.  

    Qualifications and Experience:

    Required:

    • A Masters in Digital Arts preferred 

    Advantageous:

    • Practical experience in Indigenous visual comics and Afromanga-ka. Digital Skills in African Manga, Experience in Comic and Manga History and cultural context, - scripting, pacing and timing, thumbnailing, and story development. A firm understanding of publishing on webtoons and tapas. Convention tabling experience.
    • Studio management. 
    • Experience in Interactive Storytelling and Writing for conventional storytelling media like short stories/novels and comics/manga.
    • Teaching or tutoring experience. 

    Research and Teaching Interest:

    • A suitable candidate should be an Afromanga-ka. The candidate should have practical teaching experience in Afromanga and demonstrate understanding of Afro/Manga and Comics Theory, Afrofuturism, African Futurism and Afropolitanism. They should also have a good understanding of storytelling, narrative design, and writing within manga and comics genre. Additionally, interactivity, immersion and play. This understanding should encompass Hypertext/Interactive fiction, Visual Novels, and TTRPG’s
    • These areas will form the core component of the teaching and research duties required for the post. 

    Technical Skills:

    • A suitable candidate should have some experience in the following areas:
    • Clip Studio Paint
    • A good understanding of Non-western and African Storytelling techniques for graphic media. 
    • Twine, RenPy and Inky
    • A good understanding of Interactivity and Design and the processes associated with this. 
    • This position is a developmental post, which offers the opportunity to augment these skills. 

    Duties and Expectations:

    • Limited teaching into Afromanaga, Narrative Design and Writing and Interactivity course at an undergraduate level.
    • Development of  Afromanga design styles. Guiding students on Afromanga design styles. Assisting in managing collaborative projects across disciplines. 
    • Assisting with divisional administration and portfolios. 
    • The successful candidate would be required to start and complete a PhD as part of their academic duties.

    Lecturer

    Brief Description        
    Requirements: 

    • Registration with the HPCSA in the category of Counselling Psychologist for at least three years
    • For Lecturer: A completed PhD. Applicants with significant progress towards a PhD may be considered. Proven research ability as evidenced by peer-reviewed publications, conference presentations, and/or research reports
    • Educational background, teaching and research interests in community and/or counselling psychology
    • Experience in teaching psychology at a tertiary level
