    Head Of Development (Insurance Tech)

    About the job

    Our Client, based in Cape Town, is seeking to employ a highly skilled Head of Development (Insurance Tech) with a background in the tech sector. As the Head of Development, you will be responsible for developing and executing an execution strategy to meet the company’s goals and objectives and to improve the quality of the service it delivers internally and externally.

    This everchanging, collaborative, fast-paced insurance tech company wants to accelerate the build of both the core platform and start researching a few deeply interesting support systems and tools. These will rely on various types of machine intelligence to turn the complicated (and frustrating) chore of purchasing insurance into an effortless task.

    Requirements

    • 3-5 years of hands-on experience in managing Development Teams.
    • Architect background or experience highly advantageous.
    • Experience working within a start-up space considered a bonus.
    • In-depth knowledge of Web Systems Architecture, Design and Development.
    •  Hands-on experience with complex project management.
    •  Outstanding communication, interpersonal and leadership skills.

    Responsibilities

    Team leadership, strategy & planning

    • Lead and manage a technical team of Developers.
    • Technical recruitment, identifying personal development needs, motivating and performance managing the team.
    • Drive the strategic outcome of products & services taking into account emerging and legacy technologies.
    • Oversee strategy for both product and bespoke code base platform definition and implementation.
    •  Devise and execute a tactical plan which can be collaboratively carried out by the team – to implement improvements to our products, services, processes and knowledge sharing within the team.
    • Facilitate the smooth delivery of all projects, enhancements and support delivered by the team.
    • Facilitate the technology and methodology decision making throughout the team, including standardisation of system architecture, reusable code base development, versions of software tools, best practice, source control and deployment processes.

    Software Development

    •  Keep up to date with the latest software development technologies and methodologies.
    • Drive consistent standards and approaches towards technological advancement, including security.
    •  Write clean and healthy structured, well-documented code.
    •  Build future-proof reusable core code libraries, which can be shared, in order to drive further efficiencies throughout the team.
    •  Deliver code which is well tested and consistently error-free.

    Communication and Problem-Solving

    • To use your experience when reviewing and auditing code.
    • To assist in critical support issues where your experience is required to ascertain the issue quickly and to find the more appropriate resolution.
    • To take control of critical support instances and putting into place the correct escalation and process to manage and resolve the issue as soon as possible.
    • To encourage pro-active discussions with client delivery and account management teams.
    • To contribute regularly to discussions regarding the internal process and system improvements in order to ensure maximum efficiency across the company. Including suggesting technical solutions to problems.
    • To instigate cross-team ideas and initiatives – to bring products and services together

    Senior Accountant (CA)

    Our client in the Financial Services Industry dealing with all aspects of South African and international tax and tax-related law,  is currently looking to hire a Senior Accountant (CA) to join their exciting and dynamic team based in George, South Africa. 

    Requirements: 

    • Relevant Finance Degree or Diploma.
    • 5 or more years of experience as an Accountant
    • Proven ability in providing accurate financial reports, insights and analysis.
    • Experience gained within the financial services or investment would be a bonus.
    • Demonstrable knowledge of Value Added Tax and other tax legislative requirements locally, and in international jurisdictions.
    • Experience with transfer pricing is advantageous.
    • Sound working knowledge of accounting practices and principles, IFRS and Companies Act.
    • Experience in handling tax and similar tasks related.
    • Up to date with financial policies.
    • Expertise in the use of spreadsheets and databases.

    This is an internal and client-facing role. The ideal candidate will be an individual experienced in mergers and acquisitions, commercial law, including corporate compliance, corporate structures and negotiating and drafting commercial agreements, who wants to branch out into Tax Law.

    Requirements: 

    • LLB Degree
    • LLM considered a bonus
    • Admitted Attorney
    • 1 – 3 years of experience in Mergers & Acquisitions and/ or Corporate Law
    • Skilled in financial modelling, risk-benefit analysis, and Corporate Law
