    • Our client, The South African Sugar Association (SASA) who provides a diverse range of highly specialised services to the South African Sugar Industry have an in-service opportunity available, based in Mount Edgecombe, Durban
    • If you are an African living in daily travelling proximity to Mount Edgecombe, Durban you may be eligible for participation in their SETA-funded in-service training program.
    • You will join a committed team working in a highly professional environment and from day one you will be required to do real work. This will be entry-level work to begin with and over time you will be given more responsibility, all under the guidance of an experienced mentor.

    • As Production & Operations Executive, you'll oversee daily manufacturing to ensure efficiency, quality, and schedules. This role leads 5 direct reports, manages staff of all production staff, and drives high-volume production excellence. Ideal candidate: robust, people-focused leader with controlled strength, fostering positive culture, consistency, team development, and some industrial relations.

    Key Responsibilities (Focus: Management, Technical, Production)

    • Planning & Production Facilities: Manage logistics, transporters, BOMs; develop planning systems; daily production planning/sales assessment; implement lean practices; redesign layouts/processes; oversee raw materials, quality issues (technical input, solutions, preventatives); sign off orders/credits; mentor/lead teams; handle HR/staff levels; assist new designs/product development.
    • Maintenance & Projects: Manage/develop projects; approve purchases; daily meetings with Maintenance Manager; mentor team; design/plan timelines; source suppliers/contractors; focus cost savings; gather expert insights.
    • Stock Take & Health/Safety: Arrange/participate in stock takes; redesign processes with Finance; oversee H&S systems/compliance (ASIB, insurers); coordinate training; mitigate risks.
    • HR & Security: Foster communication; assist HR situations; chair disciplinaries; manage security/investigations/polygraphs; liaise with authorities.
    • Other Production: Assist team on production/projects.

    Qualifications

    Purpose of the role:

    • Reporting to the Lead engineer, the facilities engineer will be responsible to Initiate, design, analyze, direct and coordinate projects to improve construction and maintenance of all facilities within Westfalia.
    • This includes, but is not limited to, packhouses, processing facilities as well as value adding facilities. Participate in the conceptual development of technical projects and oversee its organization, scheduling, and implementation.

    Key Responsibilities:

    • Reading and interpretation of engineering plans and drawings for pack house related projects
    • Designing and optimizing the processes involved in agricultural production and processing, considering factors like efficiency, optimized utilization, safety, and environmental impact
    • Identifying and implementing innovative solutions to improve facilities efficiency and effectiveness
    • Designing the layout of agricultural facilities, including storage, processing, and packaging areas, to ensure optimal workflow and productivity
    • Preparing detailed engineering drawings and specifications for construction and installation
    • Developing and managing project schedules, budgets, and resources
    • Identifying, assessing, and mitigating project risks
    • Managing the procurement of materials, equipment, and services
    • Analyzing complex problems, identifying root causes, and developing effective solutions
    • Negotiating and administering contracts with vendors and suppliers

    Education:

    • BSc-Eng/B-Eng Agricultural/Civil or Mechanical Engineer
    • Candidate registration will be an added advantage

    Experience:

    • 2-3 years' experience in project management, packhouse management, design and engineering manufacturing projects or industry
    • General knowledge of the Health & Safety Act
