    Senior Explosive Plant Operator Gr 2 - Delay Manufacturing D23

    Purpose of Job

    • To prepare raw materials, mix delay pyrotechnics and fill into lead tubes that are used in a downstream process, in the form of a delay train that determines the timing of non-electric detonators.

    Key Accountabilities

    • Preparation of raw materials (screening, weighing and swaging) for use in manufacturing of stubbies and to ensure good quality product.
    • Charging of raw materials and mixing of different compositions.
    • Visual inspection of mixture to ensure homogeneity.
    • Split the mixed powders through Pyropod/Splitter to smaller container for storage and safe handling downstream.
    • Fill mixed powders into lead tubes by Auguring or Thumping process, within process specifications (monitoring), for use as raw material in downstream process.
    • Frequent quality inspection to ensure high quality.
    • Daily weight verification of balance to ensure accurate weighing.
    • Monitor stock of raw material in the plants to optimize mixing efficiency.
    • SHE systems requirements- grounding testing, humidity monitoring, safety observations and waste water handling.
    • Maintain good housekeeping including 5S, to prevent safety incidents.
    • Wash the team’s contaminated PPE as required, to protect against heavy metals exposure.
    • Observe shift leader during discharging of mixes.

    Formal Education

    • Grade 12 or Equivalent with Maths & Science 

    Working Experience

    • 2+ years of experience in Explosives Manufacturing
    • Plant specific experience (Delay Manufacturing – D23) will be an added advantage

    Divisional Commander

    Purpose of Job

    • Manage own work according to project plans/schedules and customer’s needs. Review, update and interpret applicable Sasol specifications, codes, standards, policy, national/international procedures and legislation and provide guidance to the project team.
    • Evaluate and ensure project compliance to relevant Fire Safety specifications, Legislation, Standards, Codes of practice and Philosophy of the Business Unit and Country in which a project is executed. Evaluate local Emergency Service response capabilities and recommend the minimum level of fire safety measures to be integrated into the plant design. Evaluate and approve fire safety design packages (both concept and detail),
    • i.e. Fire Plans, Fire & Gas system schematics and layout, Fixed Fire Suppression systems, Plant Layout and Spacing, Fire Water Demand calculations, etc.
    • Ensure site compliance to relevant legislative standards, practices and certification.

    Key Accountabilities

    • Review and update relevant Sasol specifications as required. Ensure implementation of Fire Safety measures as part of front-end loading of all Projects, Engineering, Improvement & Transformation (PEI&T) projects.
    • Identify process fire risk by participating in PHA studies and studying consequence assessments conducted by PSM.
    • Interpret applicable Sasol specifications, codes, standards, philosophies, national/international procedures and legislation and provide guidance to the project team.
    • Identify Fire Risks on new process facilities and develop suitable fire safety solutions for “Out of the ordinary” fire risk conditions to ensure optimal fire safety for process plants.
    • Liaise with Local Authority Emergency services to ensure alignment between the Sasol facility and the local fire protection requirements.
    • Facilitate Fire Risk assessments for new process and associated facilities.
    • Participate in technical committees and work groups of the SABS and influence the contents of standards and codes to ensure that Sasol is aligned with the requirements thereof.
    • Liaise with Engineering Contractors, and their sub-contractors on Fire Safety matters of projects to ensure alignment. Render a consultation service to all Projects, Engineering, Improvement & Transformation (PEI&T) projects fire engineering matters.
    • Conduct research on new fire protection methodologies and best practices regarding fire risk reduction solutions and introduce to project team where appropriate.
    • Render a consultation service to all Sasol business units regarding fire engineering matters. Manage all technical specifications and standards applicable to EM engineering for safekeeping and communication.
    • Identify and attend courses required for personal and technical growth aligned with agreed PDP Consult senior PE Colleagues (incl. team leaders) and other discipline experts for technical input as and when required.
    • Ensure compliance to group effort in self-studying QMSs and Sasol specifications and other identified self- training material.
    • Representation of Sasol Projects, Engineering, Improvement & Transformation (PEI&T) Process safety to other stakeholders (including relevant committees) both internal and external.
    • Represent Sasol Projects, Engineering, Improvement & Transformation (PEI&T) Process Safety (Fire safety specialist) at SABS Technical Committee, PFCC Petrochemical Fire Chief Meeting.
    • Maintain and develop workable relationships with clients/customers until projects and initiatives (described in Operational, Functional & Technical results above) close-out.
    • Support Business units (Sasol Satellite Operations) with incidents when required on ad-hoc base. Support senior manager on ad hoc base.
    • Explore best practices in the fire protection arena by regular networking locally and internationally and present to relevant stakeholders.

    Formal Education

    • BTech/University Bachelors Degree (Fire Technology or Equivalent)
    • Valid Code C1 drivers’ license (Must)

    Working Experience

    • 7+ Total relevant years
    • 5+ years in petrochemical environment
    • 2+ years in Station Commanders position

    Certification and Professional Membership

    • HPCSA Member in good standing (Wish) IFSAC Fire Fighter 2 (Must)
    • IFSAC Hazmat Operations (Must) Advance Petrochemical Course - (Wish)

    Artisan Gr 2 Motor Mechanic

    Purpose of Job

    • Management of the maintenance process in area of responsibility to enable operations teams to reach production targets within the principles of WMP (work management process)

    RM, Administrator TES

    Purpose of Job

    • Provide expert SAP transactional and consultative services to execute on Temporary Employment Services (TES) contracts and ensure compliance to labour legislation and PtP governance on TES transactions.  Engage with business partners and TES Suppliers to ensure seamless mobilisation of temporary resources.
    • Conduct scoping discussions with end users to clarify and advise on the scope of job, relevant rate, approval process, time management etc.
    • Understanding the Sasol guidelines, instructions, TES boundaries and other statutory requirements relating to governing bodies and organizations, both internally and externally.
    • Successful execution of shutdown planning preparation and transactions.

    • First line assurance on executing on the TES contracts, complying with Sasol standards and requirements, following the PtP process, and labour legislative requirements e.g. notice periods. 
    • Shutdown execution
    • Participate in shutdown recruitment initiatives as and when required.
    • Create shutdown notifications, co-ordinate and expedite on TES resource requirements.

    Senior Explosive Plant Operator Gr 2 (x4)

    Purpose of Job

    • To produce cast boosters by melting and mixing explosives to create a pentolite cast booster.

    Key Accountabilities

    • To produce pentolite cast boosters by melting and mixing two major components (TNT and PETN) to a certain ratio and pouring the mix in to forms.
    • Calculate mixing ratio using formula
    • Accurate mixing number of events need to take place (control temperatures, mix speeds, cooling period)
    • Recording of mixing event on mix sheet
    • Sampling to confirm mix ratio
    • General house keeping
    • Quality inspection, packing, labelling of final product and scanning. Record production quantities

    Explosives Operator Gr 1 (x2)

    Purpose of Job

    • To manufacture detonator cord at the Prima Cord environment

    Key Accountabilities

    • To produce detonating cord of different sizes through different stations from C1 to C6.
    • Take powder charge according to cord specification using the correct formula
    • Set up the machines according to the product needed using the correct tooling.
    • Recording of log sheets and production tags for traceability
    • Take out samples from each spool for quality check
    • General house keeping
    • Quality inspection, packing, labelling of final product. Record production quantities
    • To do a proper start-up before the beginning of the shift and a proper shut-down at the end of the week or when required
