    Technical Assistant: Adolescent & Youth Programme

    Key responsibilities:

    • Oversee implementation of ANOVA’s APACE Psychosocial support (PSS) activities at facility level, in line with APACE strategy & workplan.
    • Form part of ANOVA sub-district teams and be actively involved in activities that support the 909090 & overall ANOVA strategy.
    • Oversee implementation of Youth care clubs to provide comprehensive HIV prevention, care and treatment, psychological/adherence support and SRHR services to adolescents, including distribution of pre-packed medication/ART.
    • Oversee and ensure allocation of ANOVA YCC and HC’s to DoH facilities & to facilities as is required by the APACE PSS programme needs.
    • Mentor and support Youth care club facilitator to provide psychosocial support through implementation of Youth Care Clubs.
    • Facilitate integration of GBV services as part of routine core package for adolescents and youth services.
    • Support implementation of Adolescents and Youth Friendly Service (AYFS) through establishment of youth friendly spaces/days /hours/ fast lane.
    • Provide psychosocial support to adolescents at high risk of poor adherence and defaulting, through Direct Service Delivery (DSD) where needed.
    • Provide enhance adherence support as part of team managing adolescents and youth patients failing 2nd line of ART.
    • Support implementation and review process engage with and establish bi-directional referrals with organisations providing working with adolescent, support to victims of abuse and promote provision of HTS and comprehensive HIV prevention, SRHR, care & treatment.
    • Promote PrEP and facilitate recruitment and enrolment of AGYW onto PrEP through engaging with various adolescent and youth organisations & facilities.
    • Identification of problem areas of the activities of the programme and finding effective solutions to these challenges.
    • Actively promote B-wise activities as part of both facility and community-based activities

    • Provide training & mentorship to relevant staff (Internal & external staff) on key issues related to Management of Adolescents living with HIV or at risk of contracting HIV (PrEP, psychosocial, Disclosure, Adherence support, AYFS etc.)
    • Responsible for coaching & mentoring ANOVA & DOH Auxiliary Workers, counsellors, HC’s and YCC’s on psychosocial support for PLHIV & enhanced adherence support.
    • Establish, manage, maintain working relations with supported sub-district, facility, and other partner stakeholders to ensure successful implementation of DoH and ANOVA workplan • Engage all community-based organisations providing services to adolescents and youth, and establish referral pathways for referral of eligible clients
    • Identify other stakeholders already providing adolescent targeted/related activities in the sub-districts
    • Strengthen referral linkages within the health system, especially between health facilities and CBOs, in collaboration with ANOVA community team, other APACE team members in ANOVA and DOH stakeholders such as school health nurses, Community Health Workers, nurses, and social workers.
    • Give feedback to DOH and other relevant stakeholders on ANOVA’s support in project and represent ANOVA at all levels in the sub-district and district.
    • Compile monthly, quarterly & Adhoc reports on the programme implementation and progress. Submit these timeously as per agreed timelines.
    • Manage day to day activities and HR requirements of youth ambassadors and other team members as and when necessary
    • Follow performance management process of Anova through timeous submission of all relevant documentation for line staff.

    Minimum Qualifications, Experience and Skills Required

    • Degree in Social work, Social Science, or relevant health related qualification
    • Registration with the relevant South African Council or Professional Body
    • At least 2-5 years of experience working in Youth and/or HIV programmes, including supervising Social Auxiliary workers or other junior staff
    • Training in I-ACT and NAS (National Adherence Strategy) is advantageous
    • Good presentation and excellent communication skills
    • Strong interpersonal and teamwork skills
    • Good report writing skills
    • Proficiency with MS Office

    Professional Nurse AYP

    Key responsibilities:

    • Support DREAMS project implementation in line with Anova, SA DoH NSP for HIV/TB/STI (2023 – 2028) and 95-95-95 HIV/TB strategy and Donor requirements.
    • Routinely monitor performance PrEP uptake, YCC growth, PrEP CT and other DREAMS program relates indicators.
    • Conduct audit registers and files (YCC & PrEP) at facility level to ensure quality DREAMS service package is provided (especially indicators that measure performance on PrEP uptake)
    • Provide mentorship to YAs & technical support to DoH/Anova staff on DREAMS service package where required.
    • Support the implementation of DREAMS/AYP and other interventions related to service package to improve the linkage and retention in care of PrEP
    • DREAMS demand creation by supplying promotional material, giving health talks and recruitment of AGYW for DREAMS service package
    • Supervise DREAMS ambassadors at health facilities
    • Act as PrEP champions at PrEP implementing sites
    • Be available to support Anova & DOH HTS events/campaigns or invites from youth and OVC community-based partners on weekdays & weekends when requested.
    • Support facilities with implementation of YCC’s clubs through advocating for adolescent and youth days or spaces; in line with the Anova workplan.
    • Ensure Data verification of PrEP service and YCC data are completed on weekly basis as guided by line Manager
    • Ensure facilities have and abide by latest HIV, PrEP, STI and SRHR guidelines
    • Conduct clinic file audits (YCC & PrEP) for each supported facility and Working with the mentorship and quality improvement teams, implement corrective measures where needed.

    HIV Prevention & SRH

    • Work in DOH PHC facilities to initiate & follow up HIV negative adolescents and youth (or adults) including PBFW on PrEP
    • Provide PICT, screening for TB, STI’s, Sexual Reproductive health (SRH) and manage symptomatic patients appropriately
    • Provide phlebotomy services for pre-treatment (baseline investigations for PrEP) as well as monitoring those on PrEP.
    • Ensure accurate completion PrEP clinical stationery and all relevant DOH and AYFS registers, as per DOH guidelines

    Youth Care Clubs

    • Able to provide clinical service at YCC as required and ensure all clinical stationary are available in the Club room.
    • Support scripting, Pre-pack meds and complete all relevant DOH forms,
    • Offer referral slip for ICT to be initiated on PrEP
    • Support provision of phlebotomy services and monitoring of patients in YCC
    • Ensure accurate completion of YCC Register and clinical stationery and all relevant DOH documents as per DOH guidelines
    • SRH including Family Planning

    Bi-directional Referral pathways

    • Assess and refer adolescents and youth in need of other services to higher level of care or other DREAMS partners, CBO’s and NGO’s, in line with DOH and agreed upon bi-directional referral guidelines.
    • Manage referrals from community adolescent, youth and OVC partners and record these appropriately.
    • Identify training needs at facility level and advocate for training where needed                               
    • Work with TA for mentoring staff members in facilities where required at DOH facilities on implementation of youth friendly services and age- appropriate health care                                         
    • Be able to update staff members on Latest HIV, PrEP, TB, STI and SRHR guidelines or seek assistance from TA or AYP Lead when not comfortable.                                                                   
    • Continuous Mentoring of YAs, HAST Counsellors, VTP counsellors on any relevant topic/service in facilities
    • Use relevant M&E tools to report daily, weekly and monthly to Anova AYP line manager on number of clients initiated on PrEP and on number of YCCs supported
    • Weekly plan every Friday afternoon
    • Timeously complete and submit leave forms and timesheets as per Anova policy
    • Monthly debriefings with line manager on activities pertaining to adolescent & youth friendly services and the programme’s performance.
    • Participate in AYP-related visits and any other visits as requested (And prepare AYFS related data/information for the visit)
    • Participate in Anova and facility staff meetings as required

    Qualifications and Experience

    • A Degree or Diploma in Nursing with valid SANC registration
    • Valid registration with South African Nursing Council
    • Certificate in NIMART with basic HIV Management with at least 3 years’ experience in managing patients with HIV and TB related work
    • At least 3 years’ experience in PHC setting Certificate of PrEP Provision.                                                                                                                                              
    • Knowledge of current updated in PrEP guidelines and updated guidelines and Experience in HIV/PMTCT/TB programmes
    • Basic TB/HIV/STI management certificate and counselling skills (an advantage)
    • BANC plus Certificate & Reproductive health management certificate.
    • Dispensing licence (an advantage)

    Youth Ambassador x 2

    Key Duties and Responsibilities

    Health Promotion

    • Conduct age-appropriate adolescent-centred health talks to adolescents using existing IEC materials in the facility and the community.
    • Promote B-wise usage and sign-up clients.
    • Educate adolescents on their health-related rights and responsibilities, specifically HTS, AYFS, SRH and PrEP.
    • Do practical demonstrations on condom use, hand washing and other healthcare practices
    • Promote condom use and ensure condoms are distributed/provided to clients.
    • Conduct demand creation for outreach services and address barriers among youth to access contraceptives and GBV services.

    Linkage to the care of adolescent and youth

    • Serve as a contact person and navigator for adolescents accessing healthcare services.
    • Assist in creating awareness of CBO service packages facilitating and strengthening referrals.
    • Promote the uptake of HIV testing and linkage to adolescent care and support them through the process.
    • Follow up to ensure clients attend their scheduled appointments
    • Identify, recruit, facilitate and maintain clients in Youth Care Clubs and support groups within selected facilities

    Improving retention in care and virological suppression

    • Create a safe space for adolescents to discuss social and health-related issues affecting them
    • Support disclosure and adherence and refer for disclosure those with poor adherence and unsuppressed VLs
    • Recruit HIV-positive adolescents & youth to youth care clubs (YCCs) and adult services
    • Organisation and facilitation of Youth Care Clubs

     Health Facility Engagement

    • Form part of the multidisciplinary facility team and work with the teams to ensure that the programme’s targets are met
    • Participate on the Clinics’ Health Committee/Forum and represent adolescents in these forums
    • Develop adolescent’s friendly forum where adolescent health opinions, concerns and expectations are taken into consideration
    • Act as a voice for adolescents in the facility/community for HIV related issues
    • Promote Adolescent and Youth Friendly Service Provision

     Community Engagement

    • Serve as a link between adolescents, local clinics, CBOs, other NPOs and other health services within the community
    • Under supervision, establish or strengthen links with schools (when necessary) and actively engage in outreach programmes
    • Serve as youth representative for ANOVA Health Institute at various youth gatherings and platforms

    Administration

    • Keep an updated record of number of clients supported to HTS, tested HIV  positive, linked into care and youth clubs, or HIV negative linked to PrEP service etc. in line with stationery used by DoH and Anova
    • Keep records including heath education registers, agenda, and minutes
    • Be available to work afterhours (weekends or Public Holidays) at DoH facilities and at community level when required
    • Manage project resources (airtime and data usage)
    • Attend meetings as required
    • Under supervision, be able to assist in file audits when necessary

    Reporting

    • Ensure timeous submission of reports (workload etc.)
    • Adhere to DoH facility reporting format for data and report according to facility protocol
    • Report monthly to Technical Advisor and ensure that youth data is included in Anova facility team report

    Minimum Qualifications, Experience and Skills Required

    • Completed Grade 12
    • Local youth between 19 and 32 years of age
    • Currently  not engaged in formal education
    • Experience in public speaking and previous leadership roles an advantage
    • Experience working with adolescents in facilities, community, or schools
    • Experience as a LoveLife Ground-breaker or peer-to-peer youth program, an advantage
    • Prior knowledge of HIV/AIDS
    • A recognised HIV counselling certificate would be a distinct advantage.
    • Ability to follow strict confidentiality requirements
    • Ability to influence young people towards behaviour modification
    • Good problem-solving skills
    • Able to work independently

    Clinical Nurse Practitioner

    Key Duties and Responsibilities

    • To champion all ANOVA 90-90-90 activities and oversee ANOVA staff at facilities (lead facility meetings and data review, monitor attendance and liaise between ANOVA and the facility)
    • Work with the outreach teams to get referrals and to initiate ART for eligible HIV infected clients including PrEP and attend MDT to support community recalls
    • Provide follow up care for patients on treatment in line with DoH HIV Management guidelines as well as Anova work plan and Facility 95-95-95 plans
    • Routinely monitor performance & registers of (TB/HIV/STI) programmes at facility level and provide mentorship & technical support where required
    • Identify poor performing indicators, put together quality improvement (QI) plans and implement as agreed upon with the facility and ANOVA team
    • Identify training needs at facility level and arrange in-service training where needed
    • Train clinic staff on MSM Diversity trainer and biomedical training and mentor staff at facilities
    • Use relevant M&E tools to report weekly to Anova sub-district team on number of clients initiated on ART and TPT
    • Support facilities with implementation of I-ACT support groups and Chronic treatment clubs in line with Anova’s work plan
    • Ensure holistic care is provided example acute and chronic condition of the PLHIV

    Minimum Qualifications, Experience and Skills Required

    • A degree or diploma qualification as a Professional Nurse
    • Midwifery is a requirement
    • Clinical Assessment Treatment & Care (PHC Nurse Clinician)
    • Registration as a Professional Nurse with the South African Nursing Council
    • NIMART trained (western cape) and certified as competent to work independently
    • NIMART mentor certificate would be advantageous
    • At least 4 years’ experience in working at a clinic (PHC or CHC) facility
    • At least 2 years NIMART experience
    • Familiar with latest HIV Management, PrEP, STI and TB and guidelines
    • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
    • Good report writing skills
    • Strong organizational skills, including time management and multi-tasking skills
    • Driver’s License is required and ability to drive
