    Unit Manager

    Summary

    • The Unit Manager will coordinate Improved Quality Nursing Care by ensuring compliancewithprofessional and ethical practices. The incumbent will be accountable for coordinating theTraining,Development and Mentoring mof staff in the Unit. The incumbent will also be expected toapplyandmanage the best and most effective operational practice by focusing on the integrationof people,technology, and finance drivers in ensuring that Unit costs are maintained within budget.

    Responsibilities and Duties: 

    • Administer and supervise, thus ensuring standards for quality nursing care are met in the units,evaluate on an ongoing basis, and take appropriate action
    • Monitor and enforce ward standards, procedures, and staff performance. Manage unit activities,including irregularities and policy violations and take corrective and follow-up action. Perform clinical instruction as necessary
    • Control drugs as per regulations of the Pharmacy Act (Act 53 of 1974), perform checks on drug totals and drug registers and ensure that procedures and recording are adhered to. Rationalise and control emergency stock. Set stock standard levels
    • Monitor and manage staff attendance and always ensure coverage of the unit. Complete duty rosters and record books in accordance with the Employment Act. Allocate staff based on workload and level of competence, ensuring optimal staff usage and maintaining the stability of nurse/patient ratio
    • Promote and maintain good working and interpersonal relationships with management, patients,staff, doctors, and colleagues. Coordinate the activities of all hospital departments to provide uniformity of direction
    • Demonstrate professional ethics and leadership qualities. Maintain standards and conduct to the SA Nursing Act and SANC Regulations
    • Provide top-quality, customer-centric service
    • Effectively manage all costs emanating from the Department
    • Identify Quality Improvement opportunities and ensure appropriate strategy and Quality Improvement initiatives are developed and measured
    • Participate in the implementation of National Core Standards and other Busamed audits and quality initiatives and any other duties assigned by Management
    • Conduct active patient surveillance for Infection Prevention & Control (IPC), liaising with nursing staff and doctors
    • Implement an IPC programme tailored to the needs of the unit and in alignment with the hospital's IPC strategy
    • Monitor IPC compliance and identify areas of non-compliance through clinical audits and CSA, remedial action to be implemented and assessed for effectiveness
    • Maintain standards of Best Care Always and Bare Below the Elbows
    • Investigate all negative incidents and ensure appropriate recording and intervention
    • Maintain and update Barn Owl: incident reporting, initiation and closure of Action Plans and regular review of the department’s Risk Register and mitigation of risk
    • Ensure compliance with Protocols, Policies and Acts
    • Ensure the unit is providing safe, cost-effective quality patient care in line with the Clinical Governance strategy and evidence-based practice
    • Monitor the patient's journey through a structured review of the patient feedback survey, initiating intervention and quality improvement where indicated
    • Evaluate Nursing Quality Indicators and Clinical Outcomes
    • Communicate effectively with patients, families and parents regarding the patient’s care
    • Ensure the principles of Infection Prevention and all standard precautions are adhered to
    • Ensure processes are in line with the working procedures and policies of Busamed Paardevlei Private Hospital

    Requirements

    • Grade 12 or equivalent NQF level 4 qualification
    • A relevant nursing qualification (Diploma in General Nursing/ B Cur Degree) or equivalent NQF7 qualifications
    • Registration with the South African Nursing Council as a Registered Nurse
    • Post-basic theatre operating qualification essential
    • Post-basic qualification in Management will be an advantage

    Work Experience

    • At least five (5) years of relevant experience in a Hospital Environment
    • Experience in clinical leadership
    • Theatre working experience is essential

    Knowledge

    • Computer Literacy essential
    • Sound financial knowledge and the ability to interpret financial data
    • Excellent organisational skills
    • Excellent interpersonal skills
    • Report writing skills
    • Analytical thinking
    • Must be able to function effectively independently

    Registered Nurse - Paardevlei

    Summary

    • The Registered Nurse will provide and promote cost-effective, safe, and quality patient care in accordance with hospital standards and policies. As a Professional Practitioner, the incumbent is also responsible for and is held accountable for his/her acts and omissions.
    • The incumbent will further be responsible for direct and/or indirect nursing care of a patient or a group of patients, for assessing, planning, executing, and supervising the implementation of care to meet patient needs.
    • Is a role model in the delivery of evidence-based care and will actively participate in clinical governance, auditing of health records to ensure compliance, ensuring all stock is well controlled and managed, charged and credited appropriately, effective risk prevention and management, managing acuity and skill mix to ensure an appropriate level of care.

    Requirements

    • Registration with the South African Nursing Council as a Registered Nurse/ Midwife
    • Relevant trauma and emergecny nursing qualification is essential
    • + 1 - 5 Years of working experience in the same position
    • Compliance with the SANC code for a Registered Nurse and all applicable healthcare legislation

    Work Experience

    • Working experience in private healthcare or the healthcare funding industry will be advantageous
    • Emergency Centre/ Trauma experience essential

    Knowledge

    Enrolled Nurse -Paardevlei

    Summary

    • The Enrolled Nurse is responsible for direct and/or indirect nursing care of a patient or group of patients and functions under the direct and/or indirect supervision of the Registered Nurse in accordance with hospital standards and policies. As a Professional Practitioner, the incumbent also is responsible for and is held accountable for his/her acts and omissions. Nursing activities form part of a nursing regime that is planned and initiated by the Registered Nurse. TheEnrolled Nurse will be responsible for the assessment and care of the needs of patients and will be responsiblefor the development, implementation, and evaluation of appropriate programmes of care, ensuring the delivery of high-quality care to patients/reporting potential/ actual risks identified, ensure all stock is well controlled and managed.

    Summary

    • The Enrolled Nurse is responsible for direct and/or indirect nursing care of a patient or group of patients and will function under the direct and/or indirect supervision of the Registered Nurse and Unit Manager. 

    Requirements

    • Registration with the South African Nursing Council as an Enrolled Nurse

    Registered Nurse - Hillcrest

    Summary

    • The Registered Nurse will render and promote cost effective, safe quality patient care in accordance with hospital standards and policies. The objective of this position is to act as a clinical resource and leader in this speciality, performing functions at an advanced level of competence and consistence.
