    Lecturer: Criminology

    RESPONSIBILITIES:

    • Teach, supervise and assess at both undergraduate and postgraduate level;
    • Supervise postgraduate students;
    • Initiate, conduct and sustain high-level research and publications;
    • Develop and organise under- and postgraduate graduate curricula/modules as required;
    • Academic administration and other duties as determined by the Head of Department;
    • Involvement in departmental and faculty committees and initiatives;
    • Participate in community engagement initiatives;
    • Participation in the Department’s strategic initiatives relating to teaching, research and community engagement.

    MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

    • A doctoral degree in Criminology or Security Studies;
    • Appropriate teaching experience in the applicable field of expertise;
    • Experience in supervising master’s students;  
    • Research outputs appropriate to the post level and/or applicable field of experience.

    REQUIRED COMPETENCIES (SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND BEHAVIOURAL ATTRIBUTES):

    • Knowledge of Fundamental Criminology;
    • Extensive knowledge of Criminology Theory;
    • Experience in teaching Research Methodology.

    Senior Development Specialist - Department of Institutional Advancement

    The Senior Development Specialist is responsible for developing and executing fundraising initiatives and programs to help achieve UP’s overall mission and goals. This position involves researching, prospecting, cultivating, soliciting, and managing relationships with donors, as well as coordinating fundraising activities.

    RESPONSIBILITIES:

    • Planning and undertaking the cultivation and solicitation of donor prospects, involving colleagues within DIA and the wider University (including Fin Aid and the Vice-Chancellor) as necessary;
    • Design, implement, and manage a comprehensive, proactive annual development plan with identified annual outputs on expanding and enhancing by directing and coordinating activities related to obtaining financial support;
    • Contribute to the overall planning and coordination of the fundraising team’s strategy and targets for maximizing philanthropic giving to the University of Pretoria;
    • Identify emerging industry trends to inform the development and facilitate the management of cultivation strategies for current, lapsed, and prospective donors;
    • Initiate and communicate fundraising opportunities for faculties, deans, and directors to interpret relevant interests in University constituencies;
    • Work with faculties or support services department project leaders and those within DIA to develop the case for support for specific projects, and to prepare tailored proposals for prospects;
    • Identify and initiate opportunities for strategic partnerships and relationships on the executive level between the university and relevant external entities;
    • Identify potential donors in conjunction with the Prospect Researcher and reach out to encourage them to make contributions;
    • Introduce UP to donors by supplying information, initiating visits to campus, and liaison between top management and donor interest groups/persons;
    • Conduct fundraising, sponsorship, and project information sessions for UP staff, students, and donors and attend relevant faculty and other UP occasions with prospects;
    • Mentor and coach intermediate and junior Development Officers to grow skills and experience.

    MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

    • Relevant Bachelor’s Degree and or equivalent Fund-Raising qualification;
    • A total of 4 (four) years of experience;
    • Implementing Fundraising Plans;
    • Project Development;
    • Building business relationships;
    • Administration related to fundraising;
    • Database management in a fundraising environment;
    • Experience in delivering business presentations.  

    REQUIRED COMPETENCIES (SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND BEHAVIOURAL ATTRIBUTES):

    • Fundraising Life Cycle;
    • Project Management;
    • Creating and Developing Pitches;
    • Strategic Planning;

    • Ability to analyse financial and business market trends;
    • Results driven.

    • Diploma or Certificate in PR and/or Marketing

    Departmental Administrator B - Department of Mechanical and Aeronautical Engineering

    RESPONSIBILITIES:

    • Secretarial tasks for head of department and other personnel;
    • Departmental and office administration;
    • Administrative duties related to undergraduate and postgraduate programmes as well as departmental research programmes;
    • Liaison with students, industry partners and other academic institutions;
    • Organization of conferences and other events;
    • On-going maintenance of documentation for quality standards and accreditation visits;
    • Procurement using the PeopleSoft system from placing an order to delivery e.g. stationary, equipment, airline tickets, accommodation, rental cars, catering.

    MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

    • Grade 12 OR
    • 3 year Secretarial/Office Administration or relevant National Diploma;
    • Administrative experience - A total of 4 years with Grade 12;
    • Secretarial experience - A total of 2 years with a Diploma.

    REQUIRED COMPETENCIES (SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND BEHAVIOURAL ATTRIBUTES):

    • CE@UP Processes and Procedures;
    • Diary management;
    • Document Management;
    • Knowledge of the Academic Information Service;
    • Computer proficiency;
    • Record Keeping Systems;
    • Language and writing skills;
    • Skills in the use of web based educational systems such as ClickUP/ People soft, web-page development;
    • Knowledge / Interest in specific subject fields;
    • Strong language skill (writing and speaking) in language of service delivery
    • Ability to multi task;
    • Ability to liaise with a variety of people within and without UP both on national and international level;
    • Ability to function under pressure;
    • Ability to prioritize.

    Administrative Control Officer - Department of Electrical, Electronic and Computer Engineering

    RESPONSIBILITIES:

    • The Administrative Control Officer is responsible for overseeing and managing the financial operations of the Electrical, Electronic and Computer Engineering Department.
    • This includes budgeting, financial reporting and analysis, contract management, procurement, staff claims, and student financial registration.
