    Commercial Merchandising Trainee

    • We are recruiting a Commercial Merchandising Trainee to join our team in Cargill’s Agricultural Supply Chain EMEA Grain group in Johannesburg, South Africa. We operate on a global basis to source, process, transport and distribute grain and oilseeds around the world. The main bulk products we handle are wheat, corn, oilseeds, as well as vegetable oils and meals. The position provides an extensive 24 months training mainly in Commercial & Supply Chain, but also Risk Management, Trading Operations and Market Analysis, to produce excellent commercial merchandising professionals in diverse agricultural commodities, mainly in grains.

    What is the Commercial Merchandising Trainee Program about?
    We aim to develop top diverse talent towards future expert and managerial roles for our trading and merchandising function at Cargill. The program offers access to accelerate development on the job and through other channels during a 24-month program which may include depending on your area of expertise:

    • Understanding the agricultural commodities trading industry and the markets for commodity merchandising.
    • Understanding the local supply and demand factors that impact markets.
    • Understanding drivers of Profit and Loss and take commercial decisions to generate revenue.
    • Developing knowledge on Cargill's trading and hedging strategies, tactics and practices, including the use of futures, risk management derivatives and structured products.
    • Initiating and negotiating on terms of commodity purchase, sale contracts, such as price, quality, quantity, transportation, timing and payment.
    • Coordinating transportation and logistics to execute commodity contracts and interacting with other functions across the business.
    • Ensuring detailed and accurate follow-up, execution, and closure of all contracts.
    • Developing collaborative relationships with external customers and suppliers in a customer facing role.
    • Learning on the job from experts, developing technical and soft skills and receiving coaching from your manager and peers.
    • Participating in structured learning (digital and instructor led) to develop your technical, professional and leadership skills with peers across Europe, Middle East and Africa, learning from each other during the different sessions of the Cargill European Graduate program.
    • Building a peer network across Cargill.

    What You Will Bring To Cargill (REQUIRED)

    • A completed Bachelor (Hons) or Master degree in Economic Sciences with Risk Management or Agricultural Sciences.
    • Up to 2 years of work experience and / or internship in a related field.
    • Fluent English.
    • Good knowledge of Excel and other technical tools.

    Regional Food Safety Lead Africa

    Job Purpose and Impact

    • The Regional Food Safety Lead will ensure consistent application of food, safety, quality and regulatory policies and standards across facilities within a business or region. In this role, you will identify continuous improvement of food safety processes and systems, implement policies within the business, ensure audit compliance and customer specifications and quality issues.

    Key Accountabilities

    • Performs prevention activities and issue resolution across multiple facilities in a region to ensure consistency and collaboration.
    • Direct work with suppliers and external manufacturers.
    • Accountable for completion of facility audits and proactively anticipates risks and preventative actions.
    • Develop, implement and assess food safety processes and systems for facilities and drive continuous improvements.
    • Conduct root cause analysis for defects, nonconformities or other quality failures.
    • Ensure compliance with formal external and internal quality standards.
    • Provide leadership, coaching and mentoring to peers within the team.
    • Independently handle complex issues with minimal supervision, while escalating only the most complex issues to appropriate staff

    Qualifications
    Minimum Qualifications

    • Bachelor's degree in a related field or equivalent experience
    • Knowledge of food safety concepts, policies, hazard analysis and risk mitigation.
    • Minimum of four years of related work experience

    Preferred Qualifications

    • Operations experience
    • Must have either feed or manufacturing industry experience.
    • Understanding of statistical process control programs.
    • Applies intermediate auditing and quality compliance skills to identify and manage risks/compliance.
    • Animal nutrition food safety and quality experience.
    • Experience interacting with state and federal regulators.

    Additives Lead Sub - Saharan Africa

    Job Purpose and Impact

    • You will assess needs and actively provide technical solutions and support to customers with significant business impact. In this role, you will develop the specialty business by offering innovative technology, recommendation, and products to a large category organization. You will coordinate with business groups sales and commercial teams to identify and acquire new business with current customers and prospects. You will collaborate with teams to manage a broad portfolio involving projects requiring new application technology.

    Key Accountabilities

    • Provide commercial prospecting and anticipate technological developments.
    • Oversee individual technology project budgets within your scope of responsibility.
    • Seek solutions to issues using deep knowledge in one or more field and wide knowledge across multiple specialties.
    • Identify and provide technical support to strategic customers with priority in the country or region.
    • Independently handle complex issues with minimal supervision, while escalating only the most complex issues to appropriate staff.

    Qualifications
    Minimum Qualifications

    • Masters degree in Agricultural Engineering/Sciences
    • Ability to work in a multicultural environment
    • Available to travel 50% internationally
    • Minimum of five years feed additives experience

    Preferred Qualifications

    • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills in English; oral and written
    • Demonstrated success in project and product management
    • Experience with customer support
    • Experience in nutritional concept development
    • Animal Sciences background a plus
