    Sales Team Lead

    Role Overview

    • The Sales Team Lead is responsible for driving on-the-ground sales activations, subscriber uptake, and field sales performance for Octotel across designated activation zones. This is a highly operational, field-based role that requires a strong blend of sales leadership, target management, and relationship building at community level.
    • The successful candidate acts as Octotel's front line in the field — navigating the unique dynamics of township and local economies to convert brand visibility into paid subscriptions.
    • This position is essential for driving sales volume, maximising conversion rates, and building the local trust relationships that make sustained uptake possible.

    Key Responsibilities

    Sales Activation & Uptake Management

    • Daily Activations Setup: Ensure daily sales activations are seamlessly set up and executed in high-footfall, strategic areas to directly drive subscriber sign-ups and conversion.
    • Event Integration: Identify, secure entry into, and leverage key community, sporting, or business events to showcase Octotel's offering and maximise market penetration and lead generation.
    • Campaign Execution: Actively attend and oversee sales promotions and field activations, keeping energy levels high and directly motivating the field sales team toward daily and weekly targets.
    • Grassroots Sales: Lead on-the-ground sales campaigns including localised flyer drops, door-to-door sales, and community networking events, tracking conversion at each touchpoint.

    Community Partnerships & Local Market Access

    • Spaza Shop & Local Business Relationships: Create, develop, and foster relationships with key Spaza shop owners, local businesses, and informal traders to secure sales access points and local sales footprints.
    • Stakeholder Relations: Build and maintain relationships with key community leaders, ward councilors, business forums, and local organisations to enable frictionless sales access into target areas.
    • Local Compliance & Safety: Navigate local community dynamics safely and respectfully, ensuring all field sales activity complies with local norms, permissions, and security protocols.

    Target & Performance Management

    • Sales Target Ownership: Own daily, weekly, and monthly sales/uptake targets for the assigned zone(s) and team, tracking performance against goals and escalating shortfalls proactively.
    • Pipeline & Conversion Tracking: Monitor lead-to-sale conversion across activations and events, identifying underperforming areas or approaches and adjusting tactics in real time.
    • End-to-End Event Management: Act as the project lead for all localised sales activations and events, handling planning and resource allocation through to on-site execution and post-event wrap-up.

    Team Leadership & People Management

    • Agent Supervision: Provide direct, day-to-day management, scheduling, and performance tracking for Sales Agents and field team members.
    • Onboarding & Training: Train new sales staff on product knowledge, sales technique, objection handling, and community engagement etiquette.
    • Coaching: Actively coach agents in the field, modelling strong sales conversations and providing real-time feedback to lift individual and team conversion rates.
    • Flexibility & Weekend Oversight: Manage and supervise activation teams during weekends and holidays when community foot traffic and sales opportunity are at their peak.

    Requirements

    • Education: Completed grade 12 or equivalent.
    • Field Experience: Minimum of 3 years' experience in field sales, direct sales, or experiential/activation-based selling, with a heavy emphasis on township/informal market environments.
    • Sales Track Record: Proven track record of meeting or exceeding sales targets in a field-based environment.
    • Leadership Experience: Minimum of 1–2 years' experience in a Team Lead, Supervisor, or similar sales management capacity.
    • Valid driver's license required (essential for transporting team and materials, and navigating activation sites).

    Key Skills & Attributes

    • Township Culture Fluency: Deep understanding of township trends, social dynamics, and buying behaviour. Fluency in dominant regional languages, i.e. isiXhosa, is required.
    • Target-Driven: Strong track record of working toward and delivering on sales KPIs in a fast-paced field environment.
    • Communication & Collaboration: Strong interpersonal skills, capable of shifting seamlessly between reporting to management and building rapport with informal traders and community members.

    Support Technician (12-month FTC)

    Key Responsibilities:

    • Email and telephone customer support and service management in the FNO/ISP/Telecoms industry.
    • Triage and prioritisation of outages, tickets and service requests.
    • Outage management: Escalation and network notices and customer follow-up.
    • Processing of all fibre reconnect/migration orders.
    • Engaging with and providing continuous feedback to ISP’s regarding reconnection/migration service orders.

    Job Purpose:

    • To assist in preparing and serving high-quality coffee, beverages, and light snacks while providing excellent customer service in a welcoming environment.

    Junior Installation Technician

    Key Responsibilities:

    • Installation of Fibre optic networks
    • On site monitoring, support and being the liaison between Octotel & the client
    • Prepare DSP’s (Detailed Site Plans) for new fibre and wireless site installations
    • Install the network infrastructure and equipment as per provided DSP’s
    • Preparing and submitting of As Built Documentation for each completed installation
    • Monitor and maintain boot stock for installation team vehicles.
    • Responsible for the electrical and hand tool inventory to be used for onsite installations.

    Floating Team Leader

    • We are seeking a highly adaptable and skilled Floating Technician Team Lead to oversee and coordinate fibre network operations across multiple regions and teams.

    Key Responsibilities

    Leadership & Coordination

    • Lead and supervise floating technicians deployed across multiple areas, ensuring tasks are completed according to priority and operational needs.
    • Allocate resources, tools, and team members effectively based on project demands and incidents.
    • Act as the primary point of contact between floating teams, NOC, route teams, and contractors.
    • Provide technical mentorship, training, and on-the-job support to technicians.

    Technical Operations

    • Oversee and participate in the installation of network infrastructure and equipment according to site plans.
    • Ensure boot stock, electrical tools, and installation equipment are maintained, available, and in optimal working condition.
    • Lead fibre splicing, testing, and fault-finding operations to restore connectivity quickly and effectively.
    • Support residential, business, and backhaul fibre installations.
    • Coordinate and respond to network outages, service disruptions, and high-priority incidents.
    • Manage preventive maintenance programs for fibre infrastructure.
    • Maintain detailed and accurate records of work, updating relevant operational systems.
    • Organise and lead after-hours call-out teams when required.

    Requirements

    • Matric Certificate (Grade 12).
    • 4+ years of experience in fibre installation, splicing, or maintenance, with proven leadership or supervisory experience.
    • Strong understanding of cable floating, installation, and related cable work.
    • Skilled in the use of cable blowing machines, compressors, and power/hand tools.
    • Valid Driver’s License (Code B) and own reliable transport.
    • Excellent fault-finding, diagnostic, and problem-solving abilities.
    • Strong coordination, time management, and communication skills.

    Project Manager

    Role Overview

    • The Project Manager is responsible for the end-to-end operational delivery of the across allocated phases and sectors. The role translates programme targets into practical daily, weekly and monthly plans; coordinates field supervisors, contractors and support functions; removes delivery blockers; protects quality and safety standards; and ensures progress is accurately documented and reported.

    Purpose of the role:

    • Manage rollout delivery across allocated phases and sectors against approved programme targets and timelines.
    • Drive installation completion, live activation, snag resolution and reduction of inactive and no-infrastructure backlogs.
    • Coordinate field teams, contractors, stock, tools, vehicles, network readiness and customer lead availability to protect daily production.
    • Maintain strong quality, safety, data and reporting discipline and ensure issues are escalated and resolved quickly.
    • Manage contractor performance, stakeholder communication and corrective actions to keep the programme aligned and on schedule.

    Key Responsibilities

    Programme Planning and Scheduling:

    • Prepare and maintain the rollout plan by phase and sector, set daily and weekly production targets, maintain look-ahead plans and ensure teams do not move prematurely between sectors without agreed completion and close-out.

    Production and Delivery Management:

    • Monitor planned versus actual installations, live deactivations, inactive homes, no-access cases, no-infrastructure homes, snags and holding-pattern installations; implement recovery actions where targets are missed.

    Field Leadership:

    • Direct Field Installation Supervisors and field teams, confirm daily allocations, monitor productivity, ensure adequate supervision and quality coverage, and support rapid resolution of operational constraints.

    Contractor Management:

    • Manage appointed subcontractors against agreed scope, targets, standards and timelines; issue clear instructions, review performance, enforce corrective actions and escalate persistent non-performance.

    Quality and Technical Governance:

    • Ensure installations comply with Octotel standards for workmanship, ONT placement, routing, labelling, testing, signal levels, activation and evidence capture; drive first-time-right delivery and fast snag closure.

    Network Readiness and Dependencies:

    • Coordinate with build, testing, splicing and network teams to confirm splitter, wallbox, drop-cable and route readiness before installation teams are deployed; identify and resolve infrastructure blockers.

    Stock, Tools and Logistics:

    • Forecast material requirements, ensure stock and tools are available before deployment, monitor issue-and-return controls, serial-number integrity, shortages, damaged equipment, vehicle readiness and stock variances.

    Data, Reporting and Governance:

    • Maintain accurate daily dashboards and trackers covering installs, activations, backlog, quality, contractor output, stock, risks and exceptions; ensure photo, serial, signal and system records reconcile with completed work.

    Stakeholder and Community Coordination:

    • Coordinate with internal teams, PMO, contractors, community representatives and relevant local stakeholders; ensure customer-facing conduct is professional and access or community issues are escalated appropriately.

    Risk, Issue and Change Management:

    • Maintain the RAID log, identify delivery risks early, assign owners and due dates, escalate critical blockers, and manage approved changes to scope, sequence or resources without losing accountability.

    Health and Safety:

    • Ensure all teams comply with health and safety requirements, PPE, safe work practices, housekeeping and incident reporting; stop or escalate unsafe work immediately.

    Commercial and Performance Control:

    • Validate contractor output and completion evidence, monitor cost and productivity drivers, support payment verification and ensure claimed work is supported by accurate system and field records.

    Close-Out and Continuous Improvement:

    • Run sector and phase close-outs, reconcile outstanding homes and exceptions, capture lessons learned and implement process improvements that increase throughput, quality and activation success.

    Requirements:

    • Grade 12 and a valid Code 8 driver’s license.
    • Relevant diploma or degree in Project Management, Engineering, Telecommunications, Operations or Business Management is advantageous.
    • Project management certification or formal project management training is advantageous.
    • Minimum 5 years’ experience in project delivery, field operations, construction, fibre or telecommunications, with at least 3 years coordinating multiple teams or contractors.
    • Demonstrated experience managing schedules, production targets, contractors, quality, risks, stock and operational dependencies.
    • Good understanding of fibre installations, ONTs, splicing, signal testing, routing, network readiness and installation quality standards.
    • Strong leadership, planning, negotiation, communication, reporting, escalation and problem-solving skills.
    • Strong computer literacy, including Excel or equivalent reporting tools, dashboards and field reporting systems.
    • Ability to work across multiple sites, manage competing priorities and remain available for operational escalation when required
