    Deputy Dean: Teaching and Learning (Education)

    MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

    • A Doctoral Degree in the Education discipline.
    • Currently at the academic rank level of Professor or Associate Professor.
    • At least five (5) years’ experience in a higher education environment.
    • At least three (3) years’ experience in a leadership position in an academic environment.
    • A track record of DHET-accredited research publications commensurate with the academic rank level.
    • Knowledge of the Faculty of Education’s diverse range of qualifications, the University’s (UFH) policies, rules, and regulations related to teaching, learning and research.
    • Evidence of successful postgraduate supervision, especially at doctoral level.

    MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

    • Doctoral qualification in any of the disciplines in the Faculty of Education.
    • Minimum Associate Professor academic rank level
    • Possession of an NRF rating would be an advantage
    • At least five (5) years of experience in research and teaching in the higher education sector
    • At least three (3) years in a leadership position in an academic environment
    • Extensive research publication track record in peer-reviewed journals relevant to a senior academic rank level

    • The duties pertaining to the Deputy Dean post will be performed in addition to those pertaining to the incumbent’s substantive / primary position in the University.
    • The incumbent will assist the Dean of the Faculty in relation to all matters that may be referred to him/her by the Dean; especially matters related to research, ethics, supervision, innovation and internationalization.
    • Liaising with all heads of departments, institutes, centres and units in the Faculty in order to monitor, support and collect information related to research, postgraduate studies, postdoctoral fellows, innovation and Internationalisation.
    • Regularly report on these activities in writing to all relevant Faculty and University committees.
    • Chairing and/or attendance of all relevant Faculty and University research, postgraduate education, community engagement and internationalization meetings.

    Candidate Attorney

    Minimum Requirements: 

    • A four-year LLB Degree
    • Practical Legal Training (PLT)

    Key Roles and Responsibilities Include: 

    • Consultations with clients and render legal services to indigent communities around Alice and East London.
    • Drafting of pleadings, attending matters at court, and tribunals.
    • Undertaking the administrative duties in the Legal Aid Clinic
    • Community Engagement as well as involvement in social justice issues organized by the clinic and Faculty of Law

    Attorney: Student Support

    Minimum Requirements:

    • A four-year LLB Degree
    • Proof of Admission and Practice as an Attorney of the High Court of South Africa
    • Proof of Registration and good standing with the relevant Legal Practice Council
    • A minimum of three - five years’ post-admission legal practice experience.
    • Proven ability and experience in criminal and civil litigation as well as case management.
    • A service record of your current employer/last employer only applicable to external application

    • Ensuring the effective and efficient functioning of the Faculty of Social Science and Humanities in respect of the students or student-related affairs: admissions, registrations, curriculum approvals, examinations, and graduation.
    • Supporting the Dean in establishing areas of responsibility associated with leading and managing the work of the Faculty of Social Science and Humanities and that of the departments.
    • Participating and encouraging participation in the various University and Faculty Committees, and being available to chair or lead some of the committees when nominated.
