    Weighbridge Operator

    Job Summary 

    • The Weighbridge Operator plays a critical role in our operations by ensuring accurate verification and recording of all incoming and outgoing materials from our facility.

    Responsibilities

    Verification and Recording

    • Accurately verify and record the weight of all materials using the weighbridge system, ensuring data accuracy in the facility’s management system. 

    Documentation

    • Ensure all documentation for incoming and outgoing loads is completed, signed by all relevant parties, and filed correctly.

    Traffic Management

    • Direct traffic around the weighbridge to ensure smooth operations, prevent congestion, and maintain safety.

    Consumables Monitoring

    • Monitor and report on low levels of weighbridge consumables, such as paper and printer ink, to ensure continuous operation.

    SHEQ Standards

    • Maintain Safety, Health, Environment, and Quality (SHEQ) standards in and around the weighbridge area, ensuring good housekeeping standards in the weighbridge office and its surroundings. 

    Access Control

    • Restrict access to weighbridge controls or software to qualified and authorized personnel only.

    Calibration and Certification

    • Ensure the weighbridge is calibrated at set intervals, maintaining and keeping copies of calibration certificates.

    Equipment Maintenance and Reporting

    • Complete periodic equipment checklists, report any malfunctions or breakdowns, and follow up until resolved.
    • Perform basic maintenance of the machinery and advise management immediately of any significant concerns.

    Vendor Transactions and Follow-Up

    • Process vendor transactions, including recording payment data, and proactively manage pending loads and communications with drivers and vendors.

    Requirements

    • Operating experience dependent on type of machine to be operated
    • Matric or equivalent
    • Minimum 1 year working experience in a similar role
    • Literate, able to fill in diary and reports
    • Qualification to operate specific machinery

    Zero Waste Supervisor

    Job summary

    Ensure that accurate sorting and waste characterization is performed on the residual waste, arising after standard sorting and recycling activities have been undertaken on the site. The key result thereof will be to provide accurate ratios between recyclable materials, non-recyclable materials, organic / compostable materials and general waste that has been measured in the residual waste.

    Responsibilities
    Key responsibilities and accountabilities

    • Have detailed knowledge of all grades of recyclable materials and the acceptable level of contamination of such grades
    • Understanding of when specific recyclable material is regarded as being non-recyclable
    • Have detailed knowledge of organic waste and compostable materials, and what waste types would be regarded as contamination thereof
    • Have detailed knowledge of non-recyclable materials that do not have commercial value
    • Oversee sorting staff that are specifically assigned to the sorting of residual waste and ensure that the staff accurately sort and weigh all grades of material
    • Understand and correctly use the “waste audit” recording and reporting system provided
    • Effectively communicate with the ZTL Manager and bring such issues that are of concern, which have been identified in the waste audit, to his / her attention (for addressing with the client)
    • Understand the concept of representative sampling and ensure that the waste audit is correctly representative of the total body of waste sorted
    • To assume the role and duties of the ZTL Manager on such days that the ZTL Manager is off duty in a seven-day working week cycle

    Administrational responsibilities         

    • Ensure all training registers are correctly completed
    • Ensure site statistics are captured correctly and updated daily
    • Identify any problems or challenges on operational performance at sites and report to the ZTL Manager /Senior Contract Manager

    Requirements

    • Grade 12
    • Minimum 2-3 years working experience in waste industry
    • Experience, knowledge and skills in the recycling industry
    • Valid driver’s license
    • Must be able to communicate effectively
