    Training Coordinator

    Duties      

    • Assisting with the administration of the Practical Legal Training (PLT) final year, clinical legal education module;
    • Organising student duty sessions;
    • Serving as liaison between students and the Clinic's professional staff;
    • Teaching and mentoring students in clinical components;
    • Supervising and mentoring students during their interactions with clients;
    • Assessing student performance;
    • Fostering an inclusive and respectful learning environment that promotes diversity and cultural sensitivity;
    • Staying current with legal developments, trends, and best practices in clinical legal education;
    • Participating in programme assessment and continuous improvement efforts, and refining the clinical curriculum and student learning outcomes;
    • Assisting with the coordination and administration of the Foundational Oral Advocacy (FOA) elective module presented to final year LLB students;
    • Coordinating the training for all Clinic projects, including the financial literacy and children's rights projects;
    • Providing ad hoc assistance with research on the Clinic's legal matters;
    • Providing ad hoc assistance with client consultations and general office work.

    Lecturer

    Duties        

    • Undergraduate teaching and postgraduate supervision in horticultural science, with the specific focus on subtropical crops within a Southern African context;
    • Involvement in continuous undergraduate curriculum development to ensure relevance, as well as in the departmental development of short courses;
    • Driving and supporting research programmes in fundamental and applied pre- and postharvest subtropical horticulture;
    • Providing academic guidance to postgraduate students;
    • As part of a team, managing a research programme in collaboration and extension of existing programmes within the Department of Horticultural Science and the greater Faculty of AgriSciences;
    • Sourcing and obtaining external research funds and effectively managing research programmes;
    • Developing national and international research and industry partnerships and networks;
    • Rendering a service to the Department, Faculty and University, as well as to relevant industries and communities.

    Job Requirements        

    • PhD in Horticultural Science or related degree with demonstrated research experience in Horticultural tree crops;
    • Knowledge of OR commitment to participate in active avocado and macadamia cultivation within South Africa;
    • Demonstrated research experience in horticultural tree crops;
    • Commitment and clear ability to participate in an active teaching programme in sub-tropical fruit and nut crops;
    • Proven experience in industry-focused, applied research of tree crops;
    • The ability and proficiency to obtain external research funding commensurate with the level of appointment;
    • Peer-reviewed scientific publications commensurate with the level of appointment;
    • Postgraduate student supervision commensurate with the level of appointment;
    • The ability and willingness to work within a team context;
    • The ability to function within a multilingual university environment;
    • The ability and willingness to travel to the industry partners for extended periods to conduct research;

    Information Officer

    Duties        

    The role of the information officer is to be the custodian of all the information platforms of the Centre, as well as assisting with the management of the office. The information officer is responsible for ensuring that all communication that is sent from the Centre is accurate, concise, targeted and easy to understand.

    • Updating existing information platforms such as the website, bursary calendar;
    • Creating new information platforms such as pamphlets, booklets, videos, and other media formats;
    • Facilitating communication with students and other stakeholders based on initial drafts or inputs from the rest of the team;
    • Preparing material for and facilitating various information sessions to inform students and other stakeholders about available bursaries as well as the processes of the Centre;
    • Ensuring that office supplies are ordered, paid for, delivered, and distributed, or made available to the team accordingly;
    • Taking and sharing minutes of office meetings;
    • Ensuring that client services and other stakeholders are informed of all the relevant activities and developments in the Centre;
    • Collecting data and information on client service requirements and activities for reporting purposes.

    Job Requirements        

    • B-Degree in marketing or with marketing as a subject, or an equivalent three-year, post-matric qualification;
    • At least one year's experience in or working knowledge of the financial aid environment;
    • Innovative and pursuing continuous improvement;
    • High level of computer literacy;
    • Proven intermediate Excel skills;
    • Proven experience in data capturing, management, analysis, and reporting;
    • Excellent financial management and administrative skills;
    • Effective planning, organisational and prioritisation skills;
    • Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English, and the ability to function in a multilingual environment;
    • Sound interpersonal skills and the ability to work in a team;
    • The ability to function effectively under pressure;
    • The ability to function independently and pay attention to detail;

    Health and Hygiene Assistant

    Duties        

    • Ensuring the daily cleanliness and accompanying hygiene of the facility in all areas, including offices, studios, change rooms - including saunas - the front desk, carpets, flooring, and all the equipment in the facility;
    • Ensuring that all members always adhere to the facility's rules and regulations relating to health, hygiene and cleanliness;
    • Productively communicating all matters related to the facility and equipment to all the members when needed;
    • Ensuring that all facility-related concerns are communicated to the Health and Hygiene Supervisor in a timely manner;
    • Acknowledging every member with a warm and welcoming smile;
    • Maintaining a well-groomed, professional, and business-like appearance at all times;
    • Conducting yourself in an ethical, honest, and responsible manner at all times;
    • Being reliable and responsible at all times; 
    • Adhering to the Occupational Health and Safety Policies and Procedures;
    • Adhering to the Code of Conduct;

    Job Requirements

    • Grade 12;
    • At least one year's previous work experience as a cleaner;
    • Effective conflict management skills and techniques;
    • Good verbal and written communication skills;
    • Excellent interpersonal skills;
    • Good attention to detail.
