    Sales and Distribution Intern (12 month internship)

    About the Role

    Customer system support

    • Assist in the implementation and management the customer pipeline tool.
    • Ensure compliance and utilisation of the customer tools by the sales and underwriting team.
    • Extract, analyse, and prepare reports based on tool data to support business decisions.
    • Assist in managing and maintaining CRM systems to support sales activities. 

    Broker Engagement and Event Support

    • Support the Head of Sales and Distribution in planning and executing events and broker engagement sessions.
    • Capture engagement notes and update relevant customer systems with accurate information. 

    Coordination Activities

    • Take responsibility for coordination activities within the Sales and Distribution department.
    • Support in organising and facilitating various tasks to ensure smooth operations.
       

    Analysis

    • Assist in generating monthly reports and dashboards for management to track sales performance against targets.   

    About You

    • A recent graduate with a degree related to Business, Finance, Law or Insurance.
    • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
    • Proficiency in PowerPoint, Excel and data analysis tools.
    • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
    • Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
    • Eagerness to learn and contribute to the Sales and Distribution department.

    Global Innovation Actuary

    About the Role   

    • Be a part of driving key strategic projects such as metabolic health, and health and wellness.
    • Drive the pricing and data analysis for the R&D focused projects
    • Consult different market units on innovative opportunities and act as a sounding board for their actuarial considerations.
    • Help to drive forward actuarial thought leadership via project management, content creation and conference participation.
    • Act as an actuarial support for other key innovation projects such as AI, fraud and sustainability.
    • Collaborate with different MUs to develop their propositions through access to our global datasets.

    About the Team

     

    • The Global UW & Claims Innovation and Analytics team is an exciting global team within the Chief Underwriting Office. We're a cross functional team of underwriters, claims experts, actuaries, innovation and analytics experts with the remit to deliver projects or initiatives at a market or multiple-market level to improve the way we and/or our clients underwrite and manage claims. Our aim is to consult and engage with the Market Units (MUs) and clients to help deep-dive into, progress and deliver their initiatives by providing advice, technical support, global data insights and thought leadership aimed to improve client and customer outcomes. We also explore emerging technologies (including generative AI) and trends to develop new tools and services. 

    About You

    • We are looking for an open-minded, trustworthy and enthusiastic team player who can constructively and respectfully engage in challenging conversations. To be successful, you need to have strong communication, negotiation and analytical skills. Are you at ease with leaving the comfort zone and performing under pressure? Do you consider yourself to be a "self-starter", able and willing to take initiative and implement measures in a goal-oriented manner with:
    • Degree in mathematics, statistics, actuarial science or related field with proven mathematical skills and analytical ability – an enhanced understanding of statistical methods is preferred.
    • At least 3+ years of actuarial experience and strong knowledge of actuarial concepts and principles
    • Pro-active in driving projects forward and identifying opportunities for improvements.
    • Resourceful in overcoming barriers, adopting a consultative approach as necessary.
    • Ability to review analytical results, derive recommendations and communicate implications to all stakeholders.
    • Strong analytical skills and a good understanding of datasets / databases.

    Executive Assistant

    Key Responsibilities: 

    • Provide expert administrative support by managing inboxes, calendars, scheduling meetings, and handling diary management efficiently.
    • Coordinate both domestic and international travel arrangements to ensure executives have well-organized itineraries.
    • Develop compelling PowerPoint presentations and Excel documents for various purposes.
    • Oversee event management from planning to execution, ensuring successful internal and external events.
    • Handle ad hoc projects showcasing critical thinking and problem-solving skills, including BB-BEE.
    • Prioritize tasks effectively to meet deadlines and achieve overarching objectives.
    • Interact effectively with multiple stakeholders to address their needs and maintain positive relationships.

    Additional Responsibilities:

    • Edit documents to ensure accuracy, consistency, and professionalism in all materials.
    • Organize and manage employee engagement initiatives to boost morale and team cohesion.
    • Manage the budget effectively, including tracking expenses.
    • Responsible for invoicing and expense management.
       

    About You

    • The ideal candidate is an independent, proactive self-starter who remains calm under pressure and demonstrates exceptional time management and organizational skills. You must be able to adapt to changing priorities efficiently and have strong analytical capabilities, especially during demanding situations. Being comfortable with technology to post on social media platforms and manage corporate accounts would be a plus.
    • Minimum of 8 years of experience in administrative and/or executive assistant roles within multinational environments.
    • Proficiency in the Microsoft Office suite and eagerness to learn new tools.
    • Exceptional written and verbal English communication skills.
    • Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information with discretion.
    • Experience in event management is advantageous.

    Pricing Actuary/Actuarial Specialist

    Specific responsibilities of this role include but are not limited to the following:

    • Pricing and steering of existing and new business
    • Perform day-to-day pricing, monitoring and benefit design for the relevant target markets.
    • Support clients with the benefit design and pricing of products.
    • Assume a proactive approach and critical reviews of pricing, benefit design and in steering of existing and new business.
    • Participate in client meetings, to understand client's needs, share our view of results and jointly steer the business together with our client partners.
    • Assist in identifying and driving risk management interventions that will help our clients to limit the increase in cost of healthcare expenditure.
    • Reviewing and approving within given authority group quotes our clients refer to us.
       

    Control and Monitoring process

    • Assist with the production of monitoring reports for both internal and external use, to ensure that the performance of our different clients is tracked regularly.
    • Analysing reports and noting emerging trends and problems, as well as giving inputs on their successful resolution.

    About You 

    • An ideal candidate would be a qualified (or nearly qualified) actuary that has excellent analytical, problem solving and independent decision-making abilities with strong customer focus and negotiation skills. You possess excellent inter-personal, communication and presentations skills and are able to work well within technical and non-technical teams.

    We would like you to have:

    • A minimum of 4 years’ experience of which at least 3 years in a healthcare actuarial role
    • Experience in medical insurance, with a strong understanding of pricing, monitoring and benefit design features
    • Excellent understanding of the South African healthcare and/or the broader African medical insurance markets, competitors, market trends and dynamics
    • Good working experience with Microsoft Excel, Word and PowerPoint
    • Good working experience with SQL-based programs

    It would be nice for you to have:

    • Experience in developing, emerging medical insurance markets in Africa 
    • Skills in experience studies and costing bases across Africa
    • Previous exposure to working in a complex environment
    • Experience with SAS
