About the Job

Position Purpose:

• Perform a multipurpose function by effecting and assisting with repairs and maintenance, dredging operations including allocated work stations integral for the dredgers seaworthiness and as a support to ensure it remains in class and the enhancement of the vessels ability to achieve operational targets set for any given period.

Position outputs:

• Maintained dredging equipment and general maintenance: Integral to and assisting with a wide range of repairs and maintenance to dredge deck equipment of deck dredge and hopper equipment.
• This includes the greasing of wires, washing down structures and general maintenance. Assist in reclaim process - tying up standing by all stations, connect up to reclaim pipe monitoring and providing feedback vital to the safe reclaim operations.
• Maintained work stations and housekeeping: Ensure that the areas of work including accommodation and ablution facilities are kept in a neat clean and hygienic state.
• Berthed and un-berthed dredger: Integral to the safe berthing and un-berthing of the dredger to ensure minimal disruption and contributing to improve cycle times.

Qualifications & Experience:

• Grade 12
• Able Seafarer - Deck, Certificate of Competence ( SAMSA)
• First aid at sea cert.
• Advanced fire fighting cert.
• Restricted radiotelephone operators Certificate (Marine)
• Personal safety and social responsibilities with personal survival techniques.
• Code 8 drivers licence

Competencies:

Knowledge required:

• To be familiar with all harbour regulations e.g. lights, limits and shipping.
• Determine safe sea working conditions.

Skills Required:

• Numeracy and computer litaracy
• Mechanical background
• To be able to repair minor breakdowns and damages at sea
• To operate radio without hesitance.
• Good communication skills.

About the Job

Position Purpose:

• To perform hydrographic surveys for customers and progress surveys for dredgers, thereby monitoring the situation of channels, berths, basins and sand traps.

Position outputs:

• To sound harbour channels, basins and berth's on regular basis as per agreement.
• To ensure navigational buoys are accurately positioned to avoid shipping accidents.
• To perform emergency surveys for shipping safety.
• To process soundings and supply plot charts and data of all areas to customers.
• To keep dredger computer up to date with latest soundings and software.
• To calculate volumes of dredged areas for client.
• Maintain sounding craft and hydrographic equipment.
• Install, check & calibrate sounding equipment.

Qualifications & Experience:

• National Diploma: Land Survey
• 3 Years experience in hydrographic survey
• Code EB/10 drivers licence

Advantageous:

• National Higher diploma/ B.tech land Survey
• Experience in towing a trailer.
• Experience in hydrographic survey.
• Be prepared to work away from normal place of residence.

Position Purpose:

• To act under supervision in assisting with maintenance, dredging operations, repairs and allocated work stations in order to form and create a well managed and efficient part of a team to ensure the vessel remain seaworthy and to enhance ability ofthe craft to contribute towards the business goals.

Position outputs:

• Cleaning and painting engine room machinery space.
• Stowing of stores
• Assisting engineers on duty - laying out of tools, chain blocks
• Standby during bunker operations
• Cleaning of machinery parts after being stripped by engineer.
• Strip and clean purifiers using special tools
• Assist engineers when stripping or assembling machinery / equipment.
• Cleaning of lube oil filters using special equipment.

Qualifications & Experience:

• Grade 12
• Certificate of Competence as an Able Seafarer Engine issued under the Merchant Shipping Act. (12 months sea time required) (oiler) first aid at sea cert.
• Advanced fire fighting cert.
• PSSR
• Personal Survival Techniques (PST)
• Proficiency in Survival craft ( PISC)
• Experience in basic Engine room maintenance.
• 6-12 Months experience
