    Director, Process Control

    Objective of the role

    • To provide Process Control services to operations, projects and full asset potential. Manage specific technology roadmap projects in Metallurgy.

    Education & Qualifications

    • A degree qualification in Chemical/ Metallurgical/ Electrical or Electronic Engineering or Control Systems related field.

    Technical Knowledge, Skills & Experience

    • At least 15 years relevant experience in the mining industry.
    • Ability to take a 3-5 year whole-of-business perspective in managing multiple competing priorities and reconciling these with the Company’s strategic priorities.

    Role Accountabilities

    Technical Acountabilities

    • Modelling behaviour that is consistent with the AGA Safety Vision and Values, assisting in driving a culture where Safety is our first value, and providing support for incident/accident investigations where required.
    • Provide Global Process Control and Automation Services to Operations, Projects and Full asset potential activity. This includes;
    • Champion the AGA Safety Vision by ensuring that process control work is planned and conducted with safety as the first priority.
    • Embed long-term process control standards, analytics capability, and optimization practices across the business to ensure sustainable operational excellence.
    • Lead the execution of the PCA initiative as outlined in the Process Control and Analytics Charter, including:
    • Baseline performance assessments and control loop evaluations.
    • Rollout of real-time dashboards, analytics tools, and control loop diagnostics.
    • Implementation of control improvement recommendations, including loop tuning and control strategy changes.
    • Setup and deployment of APC and AI solutions, and integration of digital twin models.
    • Provide technical support to site teams in process control design, troubleshooting, and optimization.
    • Assist sites in developing fit-for-purpose control philosophies and standard operating procedures (SOPs).
    • Monitor and report on key performance metrics (KPMs), and provide recommendations for continuous improvement.
    • Support the development and rollout of training materials to build process control capacity across AGA operations.
    • Act as the technical liaison with third-party control consultants, APC vendors, and digital solution providers.
    • Contribute to process design reviews for continuous improvement initiatives and M&A technical due diligence as related to process control systems.

    People Accountabilities

    • Supporting the VP Processing and Tailings in Discipline Health activity, this includes;
    • Build process control capability within site teams by mentoring metallurgists and control room operators and site control technicians.
    • Support the Director Metallurgy(s) and BU Process Managers in aligning site-level priorities with corporate strategy for process control.
    • Foster collaboration between operations, OT, DT, and external vendors.
    • Ensure all internal and external people are treated in accordance with AGA's company values.
    • Align with BU Process Managers on succession planning and talent management of process control professionals.
    • Make oneself available in a mentoring capacity for relevant production or technical roles.

    Principal Geologist, Mineral Resources

    Objective of the role 

    • The incumbent will be responsible for assisting with the strategic and technical management of the Mineral Resource Estimation discipline across AngloGold Ashanti.

    General Knowledge & Experience

    Safety 

    • A strong understanding of all aspects of a sites safety system and ability to manage the system components to ensure ongoing compliance.

    Data Analytics 

    • Designing and maintaining data systems and databases; this includes fixing coding errors and other data-related problems.
    • Mining data from primary and secondary sources, then reorganizing said data in a format that can be easily read by either human or machine.
    • Using statistical tools to interpret data sets, paying particular attention to trends and patterns that could be valuable for diagnostic and predictive analytics efforts.
    • Using combined knowledge of computer science and applications, modelling, statistics, analytics and maths to solve problems.

    ​​​​​​​Applied Geological Methods 

    • Drilling: Has extensive drilling experience. Can engage with drill companies on drilling methods and their efficiencies.
    • Sampling: Has extensive sampling experience and is able to design a sample flow route from experimental determinations.
    • Logging and Mapping: Can identify geological units, structures, fabrics, alteration, mineralisation styles, and the transition between them.
    • Can relate these to the geological model as well as processes on the mine or on future projects. 
    • Coreyard: Identifies new processes to improve data collection and improve efficiencies.
    • Assaying: Has a thorough understanding of the laboratory processes and is able to identify when an assay technique is not suitable.
    • Has a good knowledge of alternate assay techniques.
    • Can analyse QAQC results, identify substandard results and be able to engage with the laboratory manager on corrective measures. 
    • Database Management: Can add/subtract users and codes to the database, design and write reports.
    • Can understand relationships and architecture as well as oversee/ manage implementation of new systems.

    • Knows the location within the lease of all significant geological features and how they relate to the current model.
    • Has the ability to guide and interact with Project and site teams to further advance the understanding of an area.

    • Geotechnical and Geohydrological: Has an understanding of geotechnical and hydrogeoloical parameters, how they are generated, applied in long term planning and what impact they have on safety and production to deliver the annual plan.

    • Can design and review effective drilling, geophysical, geochemical and field mapping programs.

    • Actively monitor Geological modelling, resource estimation and geostatistical tools and techniques to identify opportunities to improve methodologies, identify potential training requirements and facilitate/provide skills transfer and mentoring of Projects and BU personnel.
    • Collaborating with programmers, engineers, and organizational leaders to identify opportunities for process improvements, recommend system modifications, and develop guidelines for data governance.
    • Deliver direct technical input, support and expertise to M&A due diligence activities and project stage gate reviews.

    Senior Project Geologist

    Objective of the role 

    • The incumbent will be responsible for assisting with the implementation of Mine Geology, Geoscience Data and Quality Management Processes, ensuring that operational activities are carried out in line with established standards and timelines, and providing technical support to address immediate challenges across AngloGold Ashanti.

    General Knowledge & Experience

    Safety 

    • Understands the key elements that constitute a sites’ safety system.
    • Can lead team-based risk assessments and conduct behaviour-based observations. 

    Data Analytics 

    • Maintaining and supporting data systems and databases, including resolving coding errors and data-related issues to ensure smooth day-to-day operations.
    • Extracting and organizing data from primary and secondary sources into formats suitable for operational analysis and reporting.
    • Applying statistical tools to interpret data sets, identifying trends and patterns relevant to immediate operational or process-level improvements.
    • Utilizing knowledge of computer science, statistics, and analytics to address defined operational problems and recommend actionable solutions within existing frameworks.

    Applied Geological Methods 

    • Drilling: Understands the various drill methods and can analyse and recommend the most appropriate technique for different programmes and drilling conditions.
    • Sampling: Can identify from data analysis when a sample is not representative and can identify and implement corrective actions.
    • Can participate in the design of sampling test programs and supervise their correct implementation 
    • Logging and Mapping: Can log drillholes and identify all common lithological types and their variations, common structural features, and mineralisation types.
    • Can map in detail and identify all common geological features on the mine and contrast that to the current model.
    • Assaying:Has a good understanding of analytical techniques and laboratory processes and techniques, and is able to engage with the laboratory manager on substandard results.
    • Can undertake laboratory inspections using defined guidelines/checklists.
    • Coreyard: Can manage core yard workflows, identify bottlenecks, and propose improvements.
    • Geological Data Management: Can review the functionality of database systems and assess if the current system has gaps/omissions in data entry procedures and data capture, which impact functionality, and can suggest/request modifications/upgrades.

    ​​​​​​​Geological Theory 

    • General Ore Deposit Knowledge: Has a reasonable understanding of the deposits at the site/project and how these relate to the wider geological model for the deposit.
    • Can provide a geological interpretation relevant to this level of work. Can effectively work in 3D and generate 2D plans and sections with all relevant details on both hard copy and in geological software packages.
    • Can determine when the data gathered or represented does not match the expected local geology on a production level. 
    • Geochemistry: Has a basic understanding of core geochemistry concepts and can understand the application and impact of these concepts for the deposit/mineralisation at the site/project.

    ​​​​​​​Mine Geology Methods 

    • Planning: Understands the annual plan and what is required from self to achieve it.
    • Mining and Processing: Understands mining processes across multiple work localities/sections and the requirements of key mining equipment.
    • Understands how mining selectivity and blending influence plant performance. Has a basic knowledge of plant processes and understands how the plant sampling and mass measurement devices impact on the reconciliation. 
    • Ore Loss and Dilution: Can identify causes of operational ore loss and dilution, undertake investigations into production losses, and institute corrective action.

    ​​​​​​​Grade Control

    • Has the ability to interrogate a GC model and can set up parameters for processing in existing systems. Can set extraction criteria relevant to mining style, geotechnical, geohydrological and metallurgical requirements.
    • Has a basic understanding of resource estimation methods and linear Geostatistics, which are best adapted for the orebodies at the site/project. 

    ​​​​​​​Ore Accounting

    • Can determine material workflow process chains according to defined parameters.
    • Can reconcile ore control losses and dilution versus mined production and milled tonnages and investigate significant deviations to plan. 
    • Geotechnical and Geohydrological: Has the ability to undertake basic interpretations for geotechnical and geohydrology parameters from measured data and recommend remedial actions. 
    • Can assist in the implementation of a general geotechnical and hydrology programme in conjunction with SME’s. 

    ​​​​​​​Exploration Methods 

    • Understands exploration techniques (including geophysics) relative to the deposit and mineralisation at site/project.
    • Can use all data available to plot trends, interpret data to identify opportunities. 
    • Can prepare exploration prospect data (including model interpretations) for handover to other disciplines.
    • Ability to monitor and review ongoing exploration programs to ensure objectives are met and programs are proceeding on time/budget. 

    ​​​​​​​Estimation Methods 

    • A basic understanding of main linear estimation methods and can implement the methods used at the site/project using defined systems and procedures.
    • Can do basic validation of estimation outputs versus input data (visual & statistical checks). 

    Operational 

    • Leading and coordinating core function teams within the geoscience discipline to ensure work deliverables align with operational requirements.
    • Assessing team performance and identifying areas of improvement in managerial and technical processes, while proposing actionable solutions to address gaps.
    • Guiding and supporting smaller technical teams by prioritizing tasks, aligning efforts, and ensuring outputs meet work requirements within defined frameworks.

    • Understanding the operational economics of the project or site and recognizing how the Geology function contributes to achieving key performance indicators and financial goals.

    • 6+ years’ experience in operational Geology within a large-scale open pit or underground mining environment, with at least 2+ years at a leadership/supervisory level.
    • Competency in Geological and Mining software packages.
    • Well-developed industry networks.
    • Experience in Project Development studies.
    • Operational experience across different mineralisation styles (including gold), mining methods and commodities.

    • Participate in the maintenance and improvement of existing business systems for Mine Geology (e.g. geological data entry & capture methods, geological logging and mapping, production-related ML/AI solutions, reconciliation analysis and reporting).
    • Provide technical support and operational guidance for Mine Geology, reconciliation and production-related fields to sites, Business Units and other functions.
    • Review and assist with corporate Reconciliation reporting, including review of monthly orebody reconciliation Technical Reports.
    • Maintain relationships with external providers of discipline-related research programs.
    • Collaborate with Projects and Operations to review mine site and project processes for Mine Geology, reconciliation, and material tracking to ensure they align with AGA standards and policies.
    • Support the development, improvement, and maintenance of best practice Geoscience data-related business systems (eg geological data entry & capture methods, geological logging, ML/AI solutions, sampling analysis and QAQC methods and reporting).
    • Support the coordination and analysis of site/project monthly and annual reports.
    • Support the organisation of the Mining Geology and Reconciliation, Geoscience Data, and Sampling & QAQC CoP’s within AGA.
    • Assist with Mine Geology, Geoscience data, and QAQC/sampling projects between AGA groups and sites globally.
    • Assist with data science and technology projects between AGA groups and sites globally.
    • Ensure that solutions undergo a satisfactory level of scoping and change management to ensure the successful uptake of projects. 
    • Actively monitor Geoscience data, machine learning, AI, and data science-related tools and techniques to identify opportunities to improve, and work closely with the Digital Technology team and Business Units on possible implementation.
    • Active involvement with all Projects and Operations and review of mine site and project Geological data, data science, QAQC, sampling and technology projects and processes to ensure alignment/compliance to AGA standards and policy.
