    Field Rangers X2 (Level 4), Gamkaberg Nature Reserve

    Job Description

    CapeNature seek to appoint two dynamic individuals to assist with ecological data collection, monitoring, infrastructure maintenance, law enforcement and tourism management at Gamkaberg World Heritage Site and Nature Reserve.

    RESPONSIBILITIES:

    Implement Eco-Matrix and Integrated Catchment Management

    • Assist with ecological data collections and monitoring
    • Assist with invasive alien plant control
    • Assist with firefighting operations
    • Assist with environmental education
    • Assist with maintenance of all infrastructure

    Supervisory and Administrative Duties

    • Supervise EPWP teams
    • Implement Annual Plan of operations
    • Support management in effective management of Protected Area
    • Do required daily, weekly and monthly administration work
    • Assist with control and management of assets

    Perform Legal Compliance Quality Assurance and OHS

    • Carry out law enforcement patrols
    • Provide support to Conservation Services during law enforcement operations
    • Assist with search and rescue operations
    • Implement Occupational Health and Safety policies and guidelines
    • Do Environmental Control Officer duties

    Infrastructure and Equipment

    • Carry out minor repairs and maintenance of infrastructure.
    • Assist with maintenance and service of facilities.
    • Maintain vehicles and equipment
    • Transport of staff/equipment

     Client Care

    • Assist with Tourism activities
    • Provide visitors with information and interpretation
    • Apply basic First Aid

    MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

    Qualifications and Experience

    • Grade 12
    • At least two years job related experience
    • A valid driver’s license with 4x4 driving skills and experience
    • Computer literacy (MS Word, Excel, QGIS)
    • Knowledge and experience in ecological monitoring and law enforcement
    • Knowledge and experience in Fire Fighting
    • No criminal record

    Competencies

    • Willingness to work weekend shifts and irregular hours
    • Physical ability to perform field ranger duties
    • Strong analytical, strategic and creative problem solving skills
    • Knowledge and experience in working with tourist, maintenance of infrastructure and law enforcement
    • Ability to thrive in a fast paced environment managing multiple projects and tight deadlines
    • Good project planning and organizing skills
    • Ability to function independently and within a team
    • Computer literacy plus advanced proficiency in MS-Office
    • Use of QGIS software

    Recommendation:

    • Possession of a valid Peace Officer’s certificate, EMI certification or a type of enforcement experience
    • National Diploma in Nature Conservation

    Logistic Assistant (Level 5), Marloth Nature Reserve

    Job Description

    The purpose of this position will be to provide the required financial and administrative support to the Conservation Officer on Reserve of the Marloth Nature Reserve.

    RESPONSIBILITIES:

    Financial and Budget Management

    • Assisting with administering budgets and external funded projects
    • Assist with Asset management, including Fixed Asset verifications, register management as well as purchase, disposal and transfer management
    • Management of Government Garage vehicle fleet, including logbooks, trip authorities, invoices, accruals, licensing, services and repairs.

    Office Administration & Management

    • Office administration including information management, minute taking at meetings, logistical aspects around meetings, workshops and conferences
    • Printing, scanning and filing of documents- Document Management
    • Income and cash handling, including petty cash custodian, banking and reconciliations

    Supply Chain Management

    • Management procurement of goods & services, including completion of purchase request, receiving goods, arranging invoice approvals and submission for payment

    Reporting

    • Assist with loss management including monthly reports
    • Assist with Consumable stock management, including monthly stock counts, reconciliations and reporting

    Client Liaison

    • Liaising with internal and external customers
    • Other administration duties as required and answer to general enquiries.

     MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

     Qualifications and experience

    • Grade 12
    • 2 - 3 years’ appropriate experience in Finance and or Administration.
    • A valid driver’s license
    • A good working knowledge of the MS Office suite particularly MS Outlook, MS. Word, and MS Excel.
    • Good interpersonal and analytical skills.
    • Good oral and written communication skills in in two official languages of the Western Cape.
    • No criminal record

    • Willingness to travel
    • Understanding of PFMA and related public sector supply chain processes
