Qualifications, Skills And Experience

• A Bachelor of Engineering degree in computer engineering or an Honours degree in computer science, or equivalent qualification, with at least one year experience as a software engineer;
• A Master’s degree in computer engineering or computer science would be advantageous;
• Experience of technical designs and implementations in the following is a minimum requirement:
• Web, mobile (Android) software design and development;
• Strong working knowledge of object oriented design and implementation using popular methodologies and tools such as Unified Modelling Language (UML);
• Entity Framework experience ;
• ASP.NET Web API and RESTful applications;
• Requirements definition, software design, development, testing, and integration;

Working knowledge of:

• ASP.NET MVC 4 / 5 and later;
• MS SQL Server 2012 and later;
• JavaScript, HTML5, CSS3, JQuery, JSON, node.js;
• Android Java
• C#
• Linq
• Excellent verbal and written communication;
• Ability to work well under pressure and meet deadlines;
• Must be a problem-solver, enthusiastic, self-motivated and a definite self-starter;
• Must have the ability to work as part of teams as well as independently.

The CSIR has a vacancy for a Software Engineer: Web and Mobile Applications in the Command, Control and Information Warfare impact area within the Defence and Security cluster. The incumbent will be involved in concept development, directed research, software solution and architecture design, software implementation and software maintenance to address the need for software solutions in the military as well as non-military domains. This position is based in Pretoria and may require occasional travel.
