    Permitting Specialist

    Permitting Specialist

    The Engineering & Construction Team is looking for a Permitting Specialist to join their team in South Africa. . The person will be inserted into the "Authorization and Grid Connection Management" unit of Enel Green Power. The Permitting Specialist is responsible for the support the Project Leader and Project Managers during the execution of Renewable energy projects (wind, solar, Hydro, Battery, Hybrid) by supporting in permitting aspects of the projects through the application of best practices in project management.

    PLEASE NOTE - Experience with all permits for the construction of power plants is required and not limited to environmental only

    Key Accountabilities include, but are not limited to:

    • Cross functional support and cooperation between Business Development and Engineering & Construction Units during the execution phase of Renewable Projects for permits, preparation of construction permits, Development approval& its conditions, PPA conditions and its obligation or any project documents obligations for Construction, Commissioning of projects by applying project management best practices.
    • To ensure a detailed and complete knowledge of the local legislation of the state and Development approvals and its related rules, EHS legislations, Land, Legislation of Public Utilities ( Road, Water, Crossing public properties), Generating Licensees conditions, Project/site Management plans or any technical aspects in order to produce guidelines and tools for planning, organizing, executing and controlling the related project activities.
    • To support the Project Teams performing risk analysis and defining preventive/corrective actions to be taken with reference to permitting criticalities, any issues with Local Authorities (Road, Municipalities, Environments), exemptions of permits in order to keep the projects on schedule;
    • To issue periodical reports in order to monitor and control the activities related to authorizations and permits of different projects;
    • To check the requirement of each permit and to control that they are satisfied during the construction of the power plant
    • To share best practices and lessons learned about authorizations and permits of Power Plants within the Company, locally and worldwide.
    • To travel locally and abroad when necessary

    Educational & Professional Experience:

    •  Bachelors Degree in Mechanical/Environemental/Civil Engineering or related field
    • A minimum of 3 to 5 years of experience in management of permits projects in Engineering and/or Construction of renewable power plant
    • Experience in the construction of HV/MV substations.
    • Experience with international company will be considered as preferential;
    • Ability and willingness to travel including temporary assignment;

    Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

    • Knowledge of the process to obtain the permits for the construction of a wind/solar power plant in RSA.
    • Management of permits during the construction of a power plant
    • Valid Driver’s License.
    • Good communication skills and ability to interact in local and international contexts.
    • Ability to work with people from different cultures (colleagues, Public Authorities and Suppliers)
    • Project management skills through tools such as typical Gantt chart, risk assessment, responsibility matrix etc ..
    • Good knowledge of software Excel, Power Point, Word and Project

    Electrical Supervisor

    Electrical Supervisor

    The Engineering & Construction Team is looking for an Electrical Supervisor to join their team in South Africa. This role will form part of the Construction team to build new renewable power plants and is will be based on our Sites. Electrical Supervisor is responsible for supervising all electrical work performed on-site from construction and installation to commissioning for a renewable power plant; will monitor project progression and keep each venture on schedule and in compliance with codes, within time, cost, quality, safety and environmental to contribute to the efficiency of projects in the execution phase.

    Key Accountabilities include, but are not limited to:

    • Perform and supervise all kinds of electrical works during the construction of renewable power plant (photovoltaic, biomass, geothermal, Hydro, wind);
    • Ensures the plant construction work is performed in accordance with erection schedules and project documents, Quality & Safety procedures, and the terms and conditions of the contract;
    • Secure the electrical works implementation of contractual obligation from the contractor.
    • Detect possible electrical quality problems prior or during the works and proceed in problem solving by coordinating with site manager.
    • Monitors equipment and manpower employed by the subcontractor; ensures equipment and manpower are adequate and the subcontractor work performed conforms to design documents;
    • Insure that construction is being implemented in accordance to the design documents and drawings.
    • Review and reconcile Quality Control (QC) documents and field data to insure design standards are being met;
    • Observe and report findings of daily site mechanical activities from subcontractors; raise Field Observation Reports for deficiencies when required;
    • Create reports to monitor, and track electrical activities relating to project schedule through daily and weekly plans, logs and reports.
    • Provide input based on lessons learned to the construction team for use in contractor and vendor contract negotiations including pre-bid and pre-construction meetings.
    • Ad hoc requests as reasonably relates to the role

    Educational & Professional Experience:

    •  Bachelors Degree in Electrical Engineering or related field or equivalent of supervising large utility scale power generation construction projects;
    • At least 5 years’ experience in electrical site supervision or similar technical role in Engineering or Construction Companies.
    • Knowledge in the grid code of South Africa
    • Experience in the construction of HV/MV substations.
    • Ability and willingness to travel up to 100% of time including temporary assignment;

    Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

    • In depth knowledge of industrial construction practices, power plant engineering, plant operation requirements, and environmental and safety requirements;
    • Proficiency in monitoring contractors’ performance in the areas safety, quality, environmental conformance, and schedule;
    • Review all drawings and notify the Site Manager of any problems regarding constructability and design deficiencies;
    •  Raise RFIs for unclear design, unspecified materials, discrepancy in the design etc.
    • Microsoft word processing, spread sheet, excel, and projects scheduling software.
    • Excellent verbal, written, and analytical skills;
    • Detailed individual with organizational skills to compile and track project documentation;
    • Good personal work skills with due consideration for office protocol and expectations;
    • Valid Driver’s License.
