    Partner Engineer - Network Analytics

    Connecting the world requires alternative approaches to building and deploying telecom network infrastructure. Through direct engagement with partners around the world, the Network Investments - Emerging Markets Team seeks to foster the development of open, shared transport network infrastructure to bring more people online to a faster internet. If you have a passion for emerging markets, social impact and a desire to leverage your data and analytics skill sets to increase broadband access, this is a great role for you. You will get to work with industry stakeholders to drive innovative, cutting edge, cost efficient network infrastructure in emerging markets.As a Partner Engineer - Network Analytics, you will be working with our data science, engineering, product and partnerships teams, and operators to understand performance of existing networks, areas of gaps and bottlenecks, and recommend investment infrastructure to boost coverage and capacity. This position is full-time, based in London but with heavy focus on emerging market infrastructure and engagement.

    Responsibilities

    • Engage with operators and infrastructure partners using data analytics, metrics and tools to help them transform their networks and infrastructure.
    • Use network performance, coverage and other data layers (population density, income levels, etc.) to conduct gap analysis and ultimately recommend infrastructure expansion such as fiber routes and wireless backhaul to connect telecom towers and POPs.
    • Work cross-functionally to define problem statements, collect data, build analytical models and make recommendations
    • Work with the Data Science, Product and Partnerships teams to set up goals, metrics and track impact.
    • Leverage tools such as Python, R & SQL to drive efficient analytics and support partner / internal engagements.
    • Assemble presentation materials and conduct analysis in support of program updates and decisions.

    Minimum Qualification

    • Previous experience (3+ years) working on network performance and analytics for an operator, equipment vendor deploying or operating telecom networks, or for a consulting firm with focus on analytics.
    • Experience working with big data analytics tools, and conducting large scale analysis.
    • Experience using analytical tools (Tableau, statistical, visualization, GIS / mapping) and data processing and data analytics techniques (Python, R, SQL)
    • Understanding of telecom infrastructure network principles, cost, coverage and capacity requirements.
    • Understanding of network metrics, measurements and performance data for mobile and/or fixed line networks.
    • Understanding of statistics (e.g., hypothesis testing, statistical inference, regressions, ML systems).
    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills including experience speaking to both technical and business audiences
    • Ability to travel up to 30% of time. International travel is required.

    Preferred Qualification

    • BA/BS or higher degree with emphasis in computer science, analytics, statistics, economics or equivalent degree/experience.
    • Experience engaging with operators (Mobile Network Operators / ISPs / Wholesalers) in emerging markets.

    Attempting to connect the world requires an alternative approach to building and deploying telecom network infrastructure. Through direct engagement with partners around the world, the Network Investments - Emerging Markets team seeks to foster the development of open, shared transport network infrastructure to bring more people online to a faster internet. If you have a passion for emerging markets, and a desire to leverage your technology / telecoms knowledge and strategic skillsets to transform broadband access by working with industry stakeholders (MNOs, carriers, ISPs, policy makers, etc.) to bring innovative, cutting edge, cost efficient network infrastructure, then this is a great role for you!As a Strategy Manager, you will collaborate closely with a broad Facebook cross-functional team and regional managers to help evaluate, decide and implement digital internet infrastructure business strategies utilizing operating, financial and economic models. You will help to analyze fiber markets, IP transit, and other internet demand and supply drivers, across various emerging market geographies, technologies and domains. This position is full time and is based in London or Johannesburg

    Responsibilities

    • Conduct in depth analysis (internally and externally) to provide insight on market/business trends and operator strategies, to develop and articulate Facebook's network investment strategy in emerging markets
    • Analyze broad connectivity problems (geographic, technology, and domain markets, from both a demand and supply perspective) and work collaboratively to synthesize solutions and recommendations
    • Develop strategies to solve diverse economic and business challenges across the network lifecycle
    • Proactively identify new areas of opportunity and design actionable projects/programs that tackle complex problems from scratch
    • Drive prioritization of opportunities from a market, geography, and partnership perspective
    • Work collaboratively with broad cross-functional partners to drive execution of projects
    • Champion decision making through exceptional communication and presentation skills
    • Ability to travel internationally up to 30% of time

    Minimum Qualification

    • Bachelor degree in engineering, business, marketing or other related discipline
    • 10+ years of experience in telecommunications, mobile, or internet space in a strategy, consulting, finance/banking or M&A capacity
    • 4+ years experience using analytical tools: excel, tableau, visualization, or GIS/mapping
    • Knowledge of network economic models, infrastructure and technology opportunities to advise optimal strategic alternatives
    • Track record of influencing change in organizations, and the ability to synthesize and execute against problems and timelines
    • Knowledge of at least one emerging market geography: the markets: challenges, current trends, impact on business strategies
    • Strong interpersonal skills, including relationship building and collaboration within a diverse, cross-functional team
    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, and experience presenting to senior technical and business audiences

    Preferred Qualification

    • MBA
    • Multilingual, French would be a plus
    • Infrastructure-related investing experience, preferably in telecoms sector
    • Understanding of telecommunications infrastructure network principles and cost structure
    • Experience engaging or working with telecommunication operators, especially those in emerging markets
    • Experience evaluating infrastructure sharing investment models (Fiberco, co-build, submarine consortiums and / or Towerco)
    • Experience scripting (e.g. Python, SQL, R)
