    Blood Bank Technician

    Introduction

    • SANBS has an opportunity for a Blood Bank Technician who will perform routine testing functions (manual and automated) in blood banks including but not limited to, compatibility, post natal and preliminary transfusion reaction investigation.

    Donor Recruiter

    Introduction

    • An opportunity has become available for a Donor Recruiter. The incumbent will be responsible to recruit and educate all donors ensuring targets are met, to maintain a sustainable and safe blood supply.

    Job description

    KPA 1 Customer Stakeholder

    • Participates in donor recruitment pilot studies which may be run at specific blood drives.
    • Attends to donor queries and complaints, and reports follow up required to Donor Relations Practitioner.
    • Provides feedback to the Donor Relations Practitioner and Donor Educator related to educational needs i.e. talks required etc.
    • Assists with arranging donor marketing functions such as media launches, donor awards and controller functions.

    KPA 2 Internal Processes

    • Delivers advertising material i.e. flyers, posters, banners and boards prior to the blood drive when required.
    • Makes contact with the blood drive controller / peer promoters and confirms that all arrangements are in order.
    • Arranges a more suitable venue in conjunction with the clinic supervisor if venue provided on the day is not suitable and includes information on the recruiter’s report form.
    • Displays advertising material and directional arrows to enhance visibility of the blood drive
    • Recruits and educates blood donors to ensure collection targets are met.
    • Highlights risk behaviour posters to donors to ensure safe, quality blood supply.
    • Receives and welcomes blood donors on their arrival at the blood drive in a friendly and professional manner.
    • Puts donors at ease to ensure they have a good donation experience.
    • Issues donor information pamphlets and ensures that donors understand the need to read and comprehend the information.
    • Monitors the flow of the blood drive with guidance from clinic supervisor to reduce the waiting time
    • Offers refreshments to donors as required and deals with customer service questions.
    • Refers all medical questions to the Clinic Supervisor.
    • Assists with setting up and packing up of the blood drive, and ensures venue is left in good order.
    • Promotes all campaigns to donors and provides feedback to the Donor Relations Practitioner.
    • Assists in arranging branch promotions, shows and exhibitions.

    KPA 3 Learning and Growth

    • Submits weekly donor recruitment report to the Donor Relations Practitioner, and makes recommendations to improve performance of the blood drive
    • Updates personnel file regularly and ensures all relevant SOPs are read and understood, and competencies done where required
    • Attends required meetings and appropriate training sessions to remain informed of current fieldrelated developments and promote knowledge sharing.

    Minimum requirements

    Education

    • Grade 12
    • Marketing/Public Relations Certificate (Minimum 6 months).
    • Driving Licence – Code B Manual.

    Experience and knowledge requirements

    • N/A

    Other (knowledge and skills), e.g. under-standing of relevant legislation; knowledge of relevant company procedures

    • Computer literacy: MS Office

    HPCSA Phlebotomist

    Job description

    Key Responsibilities

    • Assists in efficient clinic preparation and closure to achieve blood collection targets.
    • Ensure that donor registrations are undertaken professionally, accurately, promptly and in a friendly manner.
    • Undertakes Basic Physical Check/Assessment to correctly assess donor suitability for Donations.
    • Ensure that Phlebotomy procedures are undertaken professionally according to Standard Operating Procedures and in a friendly manner.

    General Administrative Duties.

    Minimum requirements

    • Qualified Phlebotomist.

    • Must be prepared to work overtime, weekends and variable hours within the prescribed limits and conditions.
    • The incumbent will be required to be on his/her feet for a lengthy period, to carry loads of up to 14kg and assist with loading and off-loading vehicles and able to climb stairs.

    • 5 years’ post qualification experience in refrigeration and airconditiong.
    • Other (knowledge and skills), e.g. understanding of relevant legislation; knowledge of relevant company procedures.
    • Understanding, knowledge and application of the relevant SANS legislation regarding HVAC &R industry.
    • Knowledge of SHEQ regulations and legislation in the work area

    Special Requirements: 

    • Overtime as and when required and travelling when necessary.
    • Performing on call duties on a roster basis.
    • Travel to various sites for planned and corrective maintenance.
