    Administrative Officer (Post Level 12.1) - Ref. TGB15/157/0626

    Duties:

    • Providing administrative and secretarial support for the academic and clinical personnel involved with the undergraduate clinical training programme of the Physiotherapy Division. The post entails a wide variety of functions relating to organising, coordinating and monitoring, including, but are not limited to:
    • Providing administrative support to clinical coordinators/clinical programme chairperson of the Division.
    • Providing administrative support to students, clinical supervisors/clinicians which form part of the Division's clinical training.

    Requirements:

    • Suitable post-matric secretarial or administrative qualification.
    • A minimum of one year of secretarial and/or administrative experience;
    • Computer literacy (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
    • Evidence of good interpersonal and verbal and written communication skills.
    • Evidence of organisational skills, including but not limited to the ability to prioritise work and work independently, accuracy in task completion, attention to detail, and the ability to show initiative.

    Duties/Pligte
    Clinical Interpretation and Reporting

    • Clinical interpretation of PET-CT (majority) and SPECT-CT studies in collaboration with nuclear physicians.
    • Clinical interpretation of other medical imaging studies (CT, MRI, US, x-ray, mammography).
    • Attending multidisciplinary team meetings to present CAF/NII studies.
    • To the extent that capacity allows, contributing towards the clinical service of TBH's Divisions of Radiodiagnosis and Nuclear Medicine, including reporting.

    Research Imaging Analysis

    • Research analysis and reporting of medical imaging studies for research clients, including extraction of quantitative imaging parameters, reporting according to research protocols, and completion of clinical research forms (training provided).
    • Applying standardised response assessment systems (e.g. RECIST) to clinical trial imaging.
    • Refining existing CAF/NII imaging protocols and workflows, including development of new protocols, to maximise sustainability and research impact of the Unit.
    • Contributing to planning of medical imaging services provided by CAF/NII to such an extent that the research interests of the national research community are best served and can function cost-effectively and sustainably.

    Patient Care and Clinical Supervision

    • On-site clinical supervision and management of patients and research participants on the day of their studies, which may include assistance with difficult IV access, prescription of medications, interviewing patients, and limited in person clinical patient care.
    • Upholding patient and participant privacy in compliance with POPIA and GCP requirements.

    Strategic, Operational, and Quality Assurance

    • Using and limited management of the NII PACS-RIS platforms.
    • Contributing to management of the NII as a member of the Unit management team.
    • Contributing to the close and effective operational relationship between CAF/NII and TBH.
    • Collaborating with clinicians and researchers, including management of relationships and communication with clients of the Unit.
    • Reporting directly to the NII Director.

    Job Requirements/Pos Vereistes 

    • Appropriate qualification that allows registration with the Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA) as a medical specialist in radiology.
    • Active HPCSA registration as an independent practitioner (specialist): radiology.
    • Meticulous attention to detail in image interpretation and quantitative measurement extraction.
    • Experience in interpretation of medical imaging across multiple modalities (CT, MRI, US, x-ray, mammography).
    • Strong clinical judgement and attention to diagnostic detail.
    • Experience in the clinical use of PACS-RIS systems.
    • Verbal and written fluency in English.

    • Leading innovative research in quantitative wood anatomy and wood chemistry, focusing on xylogenesis and wood formation processes in Eucalyptus.

    • Demonstrated experience, together with evidence of specialised training, in quantitative wood anatomy (QWA), and advanced techniques relevant to plant anatomy research, particularly confocal Raman microscopy, fluorescence microscopy and quantitative image analysis.
    • A minimum of five years' postdoctoral and/or relevant professional experience within forestry, plant physiology or related research environments.
    • Proven experience in establishing, coordinating and managing large-scale field and nursery trials, including sensor-based monitoring systems, dataloggers and ecophysiological instrumentation.
