    Learning and Development Specialist

    Purpose of Role

    • Responsible for implementing Group learning pathways and curriculums to build capability across various roles and levels for the subsidiary and organisation.  In addition to local design responsibilities, this role will also be accountable for the effective delivery and facilitation of training interventions across multiple modalities, ensuring meaningful learning experiences and driving behaviour change and performance improvement.

    Key Responsibilities 

    • Conduct in-depth learning needs analyses in consultation with a wide range of stakeholders on all levels. Identify skills gaps, performance challenges, and capability needs across the organisation.
    • Collaborate with Group Talent Executive team to scope and design organisational learning and development needs.
    • Implement and embed learning pathways and training in the organisation.

    Organisational Effectiveness Specialist

    Purpose of Role

    Purpose of Role

    • To support the implementation of talent management and learning initiatives at the country level.     Siding/Inventory Manager

    Roles & Responsibilities

    • Control of stock, raw materials animal feed ingredients.
    • Receiving and storing of bags, bulk raw materials, premixes, liquids (molasses, CMS) and Voermol packaging (bags stores).
    • Ensure smooth and efficient operation of Siding or raw material plant.
    • Efficiently and effectively supply raw materials to production plant and proper control of all inventories.
    • Ensure compliance with procedure to receive raw materials by Supervisors is performed accordingly in liaising with the line supervisor.
    • When receiving the product load, he or she must ensure that ensure quality and quantity checks are done properly.
    • Check that proper documentation in terms product quality is approved by the   Laboratory.
    • Check if the line supervisors store the raw materials in appropriate place as marked.
    • Ensure compliance of the OSH Act, Quality systems and OSH systems and good housekeeping.
    • Manage FIFO compliance and Raw materials issuing procedure .
    • Liaise with procurement team for raw materials planning and scheduling of deliveries.
    • Ensure compliance with trucks turnaround time from entering the weighbridge to offloading area and back to the weighing out.
    • Manage molasses stock levels from Sugar Maidstone and molasses from other sugar mills to enable acceptable storage in Tanks and bladder.

    Technical Services Manager

    Purpose of the Role:

    • This role is based at the Refinery and reports to the General Manager. The incumbent will be responsible for translating operational strategies into actionable plans, leading technical systems management, and supporting continuous improvement initiatives.
    • The Technical Services Manager plays a crucial role in maintaining and optimising the refinery's technical and management systems, including ISO 9001, ISO 45000, ISO 14000, FSSC, GMP, and environmental compliance. This role supports operational excellence, legal compliance, and continuous improvement across the site.

    Key Responsibilities:
    Systems Management: Information Systems & Reporting:

    • Lead and maintain ISO 14000/45000, FSSC, GMP, and environmental systems; ensure alignment with legislation including NEMA, NWA, and food safety acts.
    • Oversee technical reporting and data accuracy; manage refinery quality databases and historian systems.
    • Provide detailed management reports regarding quality and environmental non-conformances.
    • Integrate AI into refinery's quality management data sets to ensure accessible and real-time information.

    Quality Management:

    • Lead the overall quality management strategy for the refinery - this includes both systems and culture management.
    • Optimise operational excellence through a focus on quality at the source and through operational staff across the refinery.
    • Manage supplier technical development to ensure raw material quality is maintained and optimised.
    • Facilitate market and consumer feedback to engage relevant site departments and teams in pursuing continuous improvement plans.
    • Ensure the laboratory function is adequately resourced and capable of providing real-time information and support to operations teams.

    Strategic Environmental Management:

    • Collaborate cross-functionally across the refinery, the group, and external stakeholders to find innovative and sustainable solutions for emerging environmental changes in legislation.
    • Provide team leadership on key aspects of sustainability, including water, effluent, emissions, and waste management - all of which must be aligned with relevant environmental acts.

    Stakeholder Engagement:

    • Facilitate community forums, customer audits, and liaise with regulatory bodies.
    • Establish effective working relationships with local authorities and regulatory bodies to ensure a smooth workflow in achieving technical, environmental, and quality objectives.
    • Build effective relationships with all key raw material suppliers to the refinery to minimise and eliminate quality risks to Tongaat Huletts' supply chain.
    • Develop effective working relationships with all customers to ensure technical support is available, thus enhancing our product offering and after-service support.

    Compliance Monitoring:

    • Enforce standards for trade metrology, food safety, environmental laws, and licencing.

    Leadership and Management Control:

    • Guide strategic decision-making, manage performance, coach teams, and oversee recruitment and training.
    • Manage and upskill direct reports within the quality teams to ensure all systems and service delivery to relevant production teams are of an exceptional standard.
    • Effectively manage IR/union employees to ensure a healthy culture and workplace environment.

    Financial Oversight:

    • Prepare and monitor budgets for capital and operational expenditures; approve expenditures and project costs.

    Qualifications and Experience Required:

    Process & Project Engineer

    QUALIFICATIONS, EXPERIENCE AND PERSONAL QUALITIES/SKILLS

    The ideal candidate would meet the following qualifications and requirements:

    • Grade 12 plus a B.Tech. in Chemical Engineering. (essential)
    • 5 years’ chemical or process engineering experience with exposure to a project management within a manufacturing environment.
    • Exposure and experience in animal feeds production an added advantage.
    • Application knowledge of the SAP system particularly with the modules relating to the production, administrative and transactional process. 
    • Application knowledge of engineering and project management software.

    MAIN PURPOSE OF JOB

    INTERPRETING AND ALIGNING MANUFACTURING PROCESS PROJECT DELIVERY PROGRAMME

    • Attending departmental meetings and participating in discussions to gain an understanding or provide the required level of input into Voermol Feeds business unit strategic Capex plans relating to the improvement of the manufacturing process.
    • Conducting research and benchmarking and feasibility studies to compile information on the project that aligns with the broader process/ production strategy.
    • Engaging on and facilitating and/ or executing the project design process in consultation with the relevant section leadership and providing guidance and advice on the recommended methodology and approach involving synergy between to enable the delivery of an integrated intervention.
    • Consulting with the Engineering Department with regards to the selection of equipment and process control systems that are capable of supporting process design specifications.
    • Analysing the risks associated with specific optimisation plans in terms of Quality, Safety and Productivity and/ or the effectiveness of mitigating strategies based on utilisation and performance measures.
    • Preparing and submitting for approval the project schedule i.e. Capex motivation/ business case incorporating relevant documents outlining the scope of work, standards and design specifications and project financial provisions.

    PROJECT BUDGET AND EXPENDITURE CONTROL

    • Controlling capital expenditure and project budgets and monitoring cash-flows against committed expenditure.
    • Verifying payment certificates and preparing payment schedules to reflect the project expense during the project life cycle.
    • Tracking and reconciling project payments throughout the project life cycle and conducting investigations and resolving variances against budgetary allocations.
    • Preparing motivations to support and seek approval of deviations resulting from unforeseen occurrences.

    PROJECT IMPLEMENTATION

    • Participating in or, conducting stakeholder engagements and project briefings to detail and explain critical project requirements in terms of standards, key project milestones and timeframes and/ or benefits of the change.
    • Giving effect to the project design through the onsite implementation of changes to production process in conjunction with the relevant section project resourcing.

    • Interrogating the cause of bottlenecks impacting the execution and providing guidance, advice, opinions and technical solutions to unblock delays or resolve complex configuration issues to systems, controls or equipment that is critical for maintaining process manufacturing and quality standards during production.
    • Scheduling and chairing project meetings with key departments to discuss performance, status of projects, critical timeframes, project costs, etc. and resolving or obtaining agreement or commitment on interventions to enable the achievement deliverables.
    • Participating in the conducting of tests or trials to evaluate and resolve discrepancies in the process changes or process equipment configurations to ensure seamless alignment and integration with existing and associated systems and controls.
    • Facilitating the process of amendments to designs to ensure modifications or changes are completed.
    • Conducting post project commissioning evaluations to assess performance and the need for fine tuning or reconfiguration of the operation or, human interface with the process or, control systems to enable the output/ result to consistently meet manufacturing quality specifications.
    • Collating, verifying and consolidating project design documentation, operations and maintenance manuals and standard operating procedures and proceeding to confirm the correctness with the project owner i.e. Production Manager and Process Section leadership.

    PLANT OPTIMIZATION INTERVENTIONS 

    • Conducting plant studies i.e. time studies, planned job observations, production process observations, etc. to develop an understanding of the potential opportunity to modify processes to achieve optimum results based on the current resourcing, equipment, systems and controls.
    • Analysing the results and developing solutions applying chemical engineering principles to derive solutions in terms of changes to processes, controls and systems.
    • Executing tests or trials and analysing the effect of the optimization on time, level of efficiency, quality and cost with a view to presenting a detailed plan on the changes.
    • Implementing process reengineering solutions and finalizing the completion of the relevant documentation recording the process change or modification and the technical specifications relating to the integrated phases of the process

    PROJECT ADMINISTRATION AND MANAGEMENT REPORTING

    • Preparing consolidated project performance reports incorporating financial and technical process engineering information for presentation at meetings and inclusion
    • Preparing responses to queries referring to process engineering project reports.
    • Completing purchase requisitions for approval by the Production Manager for project related requirements.
    • Updating information/ data on project tracking systems and other related information system platforms.
    • Merging datasets to create graphical representations to depict trends in relation to performance, costs and timelines in relation to projects and interventions.
    • Maintaining records of project design drawings, project certificates and other relevant specification documentation and the minutes of project meetings and resolutions.
