    Shunter - Kathu

    PURPOSE OF THE JOB

    Responsible for the shunting and hauling operations of rail trucks. Directs the movement of the train loads which includes coupling and uncoupling of rail trucks and giving the necessary signals according to the prescribed safety procedures. Work is carried out on instruction from the Loco Driver.

    KEY PERFORMANCE AREAS

    • Knowledge of relevant equipment/tools;
    • Understanding shunting processes and procedures;
    • Pre-shift inspection procedures;
    • Lock-out procedures;
    • Radio Procedures;
    • Health and Safety operational procedures;
    • Procedure for working of a rail private siding; and
    • Emergency preparedness and response procedures.

    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED

    • Matric (Grade 12)or NQF Level 4
    • Valid Shunter’s qualification
    • Computer literacy
    • Drivers licence (advantageous)

    MINIMUM EXPERIENCE AND KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED

    • Up to 4 years work experience
    • Proven experience in shunting, conveyors, chutes and load out.
    • Related knowledge and training in shunting, conveyors, chutes and load out.
    • Understanding and operating Isolation and earthing switches on OHTE
    • Willing to work shifts – 24/7 operation
    • Related experience in the loading of trains at slow speed via a Load Out Station is essential.

    Plant Operator - Kathu

    PURPOSE OF THE JOB

    Carries out plant operations to ensure optimum ore recovery according to mine production targets, business objectives and customer requirements. Ensures good housekeeping within the plant operation.

    KEY PERFORMANCE AREAS

    Financial Perspective:

    • Financial effectiveness
    • Considers costs and suggests cost saving ideas within the plant.
    • Escalates risks to supervisor.
    • Follows plant standard operating procedures to prevent losses and damages.

    Internal Business Process Perspective:

    • Carries out the ore processing function
    • Processes ore in a safe and effective manner to meet shift production targets.
    • Adheres to plant policies and procedures and follows supervisor instruction
    • Escalates issues and problems where necessary to ensure:
    • Plant safety;
    • Plant cleanliness;
    • Product conformance;
    • Prevention of loss or damage to equipment and machinery.
    • Operates plant equipment and machinery safely and responsibly according to standard operating procedures.
    • Ensures good housekeeping, cleanliness and hygiene within the plant.

    • Basic Computer literacy
    • Driver’s licence (preferential)

    MINIMUM EXPERIENCE AND KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED

    • Up to 3 years Ore processing experience.
    • Manganese Ore processing experience is (preferential).
    • Proven experience in plants, conveyors and load out.
    • Related knowledge and training in plant, logistics, conveyors and other.
    • Understanding and operating switch gear and isolators.
    • Willing to work shifts – 24/7
    • Related experience of crushing, conveying and material handling.
