About the role

As a senior engineer, you will contribute on an individual contributor career path. You will be responsible for system design, ensuring that the team is aligned with the Yoco technical direction. To complement the team’s tech lead, you will be expected to mentor and coach engineers to ensure that the team supports and delivers new features quickly and with industry-leading quality and non-functional requirements (e.g. availability, security, performance, etc.).

About you

• 7+ years of experience as a frontend software engineer, preferably using Kotlin
• Experience designing and building systems with challenging non-functional requirements (e.g. availability, security, performance, etc.)
• Experience with technical leadership, with an emphasis on leading by example, and setting coding standards.
• Experience working as part of a globally distributed team
• Experience working in a product-based company (instead of a services-based company)
• The ability to thrive with a high level of autonomy and responsibility
• Experience in payments is a bonus

About the role

You’ll be a senior data engineer in the Data Engineering team, part of the broader Data and Analytics team at Yoco.

The Data Engineering team is responsible for building reusable cloud based frameworks, services and platforms, to simplify and scale (both time to market and volume) data processing. Data processing includes: data ingress, data egress, data transformation (filtering, aggregation and projection; including ML prediction) and data products; using batch based, real-time and hybrid processing models.

What you will be doing

• Design cloud based data processing frameworks and services and cloud based ML processing intensive frameworks
• Define services and standards, conventions and ways of work
• Develop high quality, maintainable and performant source code
• Collaborate cross-functionally with various stakeholders to ensure smooth interaction, and timely and relevant delivery
• Perform technical interviews, mentor team members and continually drive innovation within the team by nurturing a willingness to experiment and tackle complex problems together

Key requirements

• Good understanding of modern software engineering practices
• Good understanding of the modern data processing stack and experience implementing parts of it, cloud computing services (AWS/GCP), ML engineering practices and how to implement them
• Professional experience using Python for data processing
• Experience designing cloud based data processing frameworks and services or cloud based ML processing intensive framework
• Good communicator able to collaborate with various stakeholders throughout the organisation

Yoco Reseller Program

We’re growing fast and not stopping anytime soon. We want to help more businesses to thrive - and we choose to do this through creating efficient channel partnerships. The Reseller Program was established with the goal of partnering with experienced sales professionals to help Yoco reach its merchants outside of the traditional sales channels. We want to partner with you and enable you to be successful alongside Yoco.

This is a commission-only role where we partner with you as an independent contractor. We offer a highly competitive commission structure that allows dedicated resellers to earn R20 000+ monthly.

• Receive a R120 discount off all devices except the Yoco Go
• Receive R500 for every new business you sign up and transact their first R1000 (activates).
• Earn 0.2% annuity income from every customer you sign up, based on the ongoing card turnover of the business
• Continue earning this income for a full 12 months after signing them up, as long as the business continues trading and you meet the monthly threshold of 5 activated merchants

About You

• At least 3 years proven sales experience
• Previous experience in following a sales process
• Proven after-sales support experience
• Good understanding of computer systems, mobile devices and other tech products
• Previous experience self-managing and working independently
• Are able to dedicate at least 30 hours a week to Yoco
• Have a car / access to reliable transport
• Have access to a laptop/mobile device with stable internet connection
