    Risk Surveyor - Sapphire

    Key Tasks & Accountabilities

    • Assess the quality of complex risks
    • Assess loss potentials in accordance with agreed definitions
    • Support external customers by identifying, assessing, and reducing the risks that they face individually and, on an account/portfolio basis
    • Provide appropriate risk improvement advice and implement risk improvement programs
    • Provide effective advice on risk management issues to external customers and internal business partners
    • Observe basic loss investigations, which include both trend and root cause analysis
    • Provide basic level training for customers
    • Oversee portfolio analysis of allocated multiple-site customers
    • Produce technical risk insights for customers
    • Carry out tasks in accordance agreed service delivery standards (productivity targets)
    • Produce work that complies with company standards, in terms of technical quality and the guiding principles, policies and procedures
    • Positive feedback showing the representative anticipates, recognises and responds to needs of customers
    • Positive feedback in developing and maintaining positive customer and business partner relationships
    • Local quality reviews show consistent successful resolution of technical problems by referring to policies and procedures
    • Documented evidence of providing alternatives for solving problems or improving procedures or products and provide recommendations
    • Documented participation in short-term, defined scope projects

    Stakeholder Management

    • Customers
    • Brokers
    • Other insurers’ risk engineers
    • External industry organisations, technical committees, etc.

    Qualifications & Experience

    • Relevant degree and/or related industry/insurance or technical certification in a specific field of expertise
    • 5 years Relevant experience in the assessment of risk
    • Strong negotiation, communications, and interpersonal skills
    • Demonstrated ability to work in a team environment with strong management involvement

    Sales & Underwriting Support

    Key tasks & Accountabilities

    Sales administration

    • Ensure excellent service delivery to policyholders, brokers, and partners.
    • Build strong client/partner relationships to improve satisfaction and loyalty
    • Prepare closings for Branch Manager to submit to Central Box
    • Assist brokers / agents with claims, underwriting, compliance, and credit control inquiries
    • Follow up clients / brokers / agents on compliance documentation
    • Follow up on quotes issues by Manager or Underwriters
    • Follow up agents / brokers / direct clients on renewals
    • Run reports on under-insurance (static sums insured) and propose remedies
    • Provide accurate sales reports and forecasts to management
    • Track performance of accounts and bring to attention of Branch Manager and Underwriting
    • Run broker performance reports on a quarterly basis
    • Identify prospects, obtain contract details of prospects, and set up meetings for the Branch Manager with the prospect.
    • Identify local market opportunities and competitive positioning
    • Resolve escalated customer complaints promptly and professionally

    Underwriting

    • Assist in assessing risks and determining appropriate coverage, terms, and premiums.
    • Review and analyse application documents, including financial statements, policy history, and risk factors.
    • Ensure underwriting decisions align with company policies and regulatory requirements.
    • Process new business, renewals, and endorsements efficiently.
    • Prepare underwriting reports and maintain accurate records of all underwriting decisions.
    • Communicate underwriting decisions to brokers, clients, and internal stakeholders.
    • Support in conducting risk assessments and recommending suitable coverage.
    • Ensure compliance with internal underwriting guidelines and external regulatory frameworks. Ie KYC
    • Identify potential risk exposures and propose mitigation strategies. 
    • Liaise with brokers, agents, and clients to gather additional information as needed.
    • Provide technical underwriting support to internal teams and external stakeholders.
    • Assist in resolving underwriting queries and policy-related concerns.
    • Stay updated on industry trends, market developments, and underwriting best practices.
    • Participate in training programs and professional development initiatives.

    General Office Admin

    • Maintenance or tracking of stock of all office items and monitor office stationery, refreshments, electricity, and various inventory etc.
    • Supervision of office cleaning and periodic physical inspections to ensure the office is in a usable condition and meets health and safety standards
    • Execute various administrative tasks as directed

    Qualifications & Experience

    • Bachelor’s degree Finance, Engineering, Risk Management, Business Administration, or a related field.
    • Professional certification (or working towards one) in insurance (e.g., CII, AIISA) is an added advantage.
    • 3–4 years of experience in underwriting, insurance, or a related field.
    • Strong analytical and numerical skills with attention to detail.

    Underwriter-Sapphire

    Key Tasks & Accountabilities

    • Produce a Business Plan that reflects market opportunities for area of responsibility
    • Produce a Sales plan that demonstrates how to identify, develop and manage prospects
    • Underwrite and accept risks within delegated authority to achieve effective implementation of business
    • Grow and retain Sapphire’s Sales target to ensure the GWP and profitability targets are met
    • Track Productivity levels
    • Deliver and enhance the highest level of customer satisfaction by mapping and determining their business needs and delivering superior customer service
    • Strategically analyse the business plan and develop future business opportunities
    • Develop the new business pipeline whereby the Business Development Growth targets are achieved through influence and persuasion
    • Ensure that technical and operational underwriting standards, procedures, and controls are complied with
    • Implement agreed underwriting measures to attain targeted loss ratios and rates
    • Ensure adherence to the Sales plan

    Stakeholder Management

    Stakeholders include

    • Sapphire Risk Transfer Chief Executive Officer
    • Portfolio Executives
    • Customers and / or Brokers
    • Appropriate networks within the industry

    Qualifications & Experience

    • B Comm Degree with a minimum of 5 years Short Term Insurance industry experience
    • 5 years Sales and Underwriting experience with a wide network in the industry
    • RE5 and FAIS Compliant
