    Junior Nuclear Analyst -Hay Level 13 (Internal/ External)

    Key Performance Areas:

    Safety Analysis:

    • Comprehensive Evaluations: Perform detailed safety and design analyses to evaluate potential risks and the robustness of safety measures in place, ensuring the facility operates within the bounds of regulatory compliance and best practice standards.
    • Operational Safety Assurance: Assess the operational safety protocols and emergency response plans to ensure they are effective and up-to-date, promoting a culture of safety throughout the facility.
    • Regulatory Compliance: Ensure all safety analyses are documented and communicated to NNR as required, maintaining transparency and adherence to regulations.

    Neutronics and Safety Analysis Utilization:

    • MCNP/X and FISPACT-II Application: Expertly apply MCNP/X (Monte Carlo N-Particle Transport Code) and FISPACT-II (inventory and source term code) for precision in neutronics and radiological safety analysis, following stringent international guidelines and meeting regulatory compliance.
    • Analysis Optimization: Optimize the use of these codes to simulate reactor behavior accurately under various conditions, enhancing the understanding of core dynamics and radiation transport.
    • Regulatory Adherence: Stay up-to-date with international guidelines and changes in regulatory requirements to ensure all analyses remain compliant and relevant.

    Code Development and Maintenance:

    • In-House Code Enhancement: Contribute to the development and refinement of proprietary fuel and core management codes, improving their functionality and ensuring they meet the specific needs of the facility.
    • Accuracy and Reliability: Validate and verify the codes regularly to ensure they produce accurate and reliable data for effective core management and operational decision-making.
    • Continuous Update: Maintain and update the codes to incorporate the latest research findings, feedback from operational experience, and evolving technological advancements.

    Reactor Safety Committee Support:

    • Committee Engagement: Actively support the SAFARI-1 Reactor Safety Committee by assisting with administration, providing technical expertise, contributing to safety reviews, and advising on safety-related matters.
    • Safety Enhancements: Collaborate with the RSC to identify areas for safety improvements, recommend changes, and help implement new safety protocols.
    • Documentation and Reporting: Assist in preparing comprehensive reports for the RSC, documenting safety assessments, incident analyses, and recommendations for maintaining and enhancing reactor safety.

    Beryllium Management:

    • Procedure Implementation: Execute the implementation of the beryllium management procedure, establishing protocols for safe handling, storage, and disposal of beryllium to prevent exposure and contamination.
    • Safety Protocols Enforcement: Enforce stringent safety protocols and provide training to staff on the proper handling of beryllium assemblies.
    • Disposal Compliance: Oversee the disposal process of beryllium assemblies, ensuring it complies with environmental regulations and industry best practices for hazardous waste management.

    Core Reload Predictions:

    • Calculations and Modeling: Utilize advanced computational models to perform accurate core reload predictions, including critical parameters like fuel cladding temperature, to facilitate safe and efficient reactor operations.
    • Operational Safety Analysis: Analyze the implications of core reload scenarios on reactor safety, thermal limits, and fuel integrity to ensure all operations remain within the safe operational envelope.
    • Predictive Accuracy: Continuously improve the predictive models based on operational data and feedback to enhance the accuracy of future core reload predictions.

    Core Management Processes:

    • Process Verification: Regularly verify core management processes to ensure their accuracy and reliability, incorporating checks and balances to prevent and detect errors.
    • Procedure Optimization: Work on optimizing core management procedures, streamlining operations while maintaining high safety standards and regulatory compliance.
    • Continuous Monitoring: Implement continuous monitoring and assessment of core performance to provide real-time data that supports effective core management and decision-making processes.

    Safeguards Compliance Documentation:

    • Comprehensive Documentation: Produce comprehensive, accurate, and up-to-date documentation required for nuclear safeguards compliance. This includes inventory lists, material transfer records, and facility operation details, ensuring readiness for inspections.
    • Preparation for Inspections: Regularly update and review compliance documentation to ensure readiness for unannounced inspections by international bodies, such as the IAEA.
    • Data Integrity: Ensure that all data provided in the documentation is accurate and verifiable, maintaining a high level of integrity and transparency in all records.

    Safeguards Ledgers and Reports:

    • Accurate Bookkeeping: Keep meticulous records of nuclear materials, including their use, storage, and transfer, in line with QA (Quality Assurance) standards and safeguard procedures.
    • Inventory Management: Generate and maintain inventories that accurately reflect the current status of nuclear materials within the facility, ensuring that all changes are logged in a timely and precise manner.
    • Report Generation: Prepare and submit required ledgers and reports that detail the facility's adherence to safeguard procedures, facilitating oversight by regulatory agencies and internal stakeholders.

    IAEA Inspections Representation:

    • Inspection Liaison: Assist with liaison between SAFARI and the IAEA during inspections and audits, supporting the engagement and ensuring that all interactions are conducted professionally and constructively.
    • Compliance Assurance: Demonstrate the facility's compliance with international safeguards and nuclear non-proliferation treaties during inspections, addressing any queries and facilitating the inspectors' access to required areas and information.
    • Follow-Up Actions: After inspections, assist with any necessary follow-up actions to address recommendations or findings, and incorporate feedback into the facility’s safeguards practices to maintain and improve compliance standards.

    Reactor Utilization Activities Support:

    • Operational Support: Provide technical and operational support for the reactor's utilization activities, ensuring optimal scheduling and resource allocation for activities like Mo-99 production, ad hoc isotope production, and silicon doping.
    • Production Planning: Assist in the planning and execution of production cycles, addressing logistical, technical, and safety considerations to meet both commercial and research demands.
    • Process Optimization: Work towards continuous improvement of the reactor utilization processes to enhance efficiency and output while adhering to safety standards.

    Coordination with R&D Teams:

    • Collaborative Planning: Engage with R&D teams to plan and execute experimental programs that leverage the reactor's capabilities, facilitating innovative research and development initiatives.
    • Communication and Feedback: Maintain clear communication channels with R&D teams to gather feedback and coordinate with reactor operations to support research activities effectively.
    • Safety Training: Engage in regular safety trainings and contribute to the training of staff. 
    • Safety Initiatives: Actively participate in and promote safety culture through continuous improvement efforts and open communication on safety matters.

    Qualifications and Experience:

    Education:

    • BSc (Hons) Nuclear Science or BEng Nuclear Engineering 

    Experience: 

    • 1-3 years in Reactor Engineering, Reactor Safety analysis, Reactor Utilization and Isotope production

    Artisan (Mechanical) - Hay Level 11 (Internal & External Advert)

    Key Performance Areas 

    • Set up the process for manufacturing products or items in compliance with Work Instructions
    • Manufacture elements/control rods from the production run issued by the Section Head, and complete as per route card guidelines
    • Work according to established methods for the machining of components or items:
    • Complete the manufacturing of components to final machining, and assemble components to final product. Do final machining on assembled product.
    • Ensure that the product meets the specifications and drawings and that there are no deviations. 
    • Ensure that all materials used comply with quality standards.
    • Ensure that equipment is safe to operate before use, for example: shielding covers in front of moving parts, and equipment and tools fastened in position as required.
    •  Complete work documents accurately as required.
    • Effective HR Controls (leave application, attendance etc.)
    • Training in accordance with IDP.
    • Supervise trainees and interns in the machine workshop.
    • Ensure adherence to Behaviour-Based Safety (BBS) and Operational Excellence programs
    • Ensure that work is completed safely in accordance with SHEQ and criticality requirements.

    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

    Section Head NTP- HAY 15 (Internal /External)

    Key Performance Areas

    • Implement Departmental Business Plan and achieve targets/goals as set out.
    • Arrange collection of containers from Row F P1701 decay yard to P3000 monorail/ Red Area or collect from an internal site and ensure delivery to the red area.
    • Arrange the transport of the decay containers for compressible solid dry waste to the yard and ensure that it is placed on the right location.
    • Provide and monitor the inventory of 160L red and 210L yellow drums on a weekly and monthly basis for decay levels at P3000, P2100, P2000 and P1700 Active labs, through measurement of content, and arrange distribution as appropriate.
    • Manage P1701 Old decay yard Row F in terms of what decay drum is placed in what position and their quarterly decay readings.
    • Ensure that 160L red and 210L yellow drums are collected from P2000, P2100 and P1700 QC labs as per request by the client.
    • Ensuring that waste taken out and collected from P3000, P2000, P2100 and P1700 QC labs comply with NLM- WAR-0004 and related SHEQ-INS documents.
    • Ensure that all waste drums (concrete decay drum and steel red drums (160L) and (210L) yellow drums movements are documented (route card).
    • Physically stock taking and check the position and location of the drums monthly.
    • Responsible for the training of the Waste operators, qualification, and authorization thereof, ensuring that statutory training of personnel is kept current.
    • Ensure that Standard Operating Procedures are generated. Ensuring the completion of all checklist and forms indicating the details in respect of drum specifications and forward to Pelstore for collection.
    • Liaise with NTP drivers and nuclear waste operators. Departments, production, maintenance, NLM, RPO and internal service providers when arranging the transportation of drums.
    • Making sure that waste activities with NTP facilities runs smoothly.
    • Complete transfer applications and a data pack with related documentation and deliver to P1701 waste yard Raw F for concrete decay drums. Get 30% to 50% empty spaces.
    • Keep records updated on all the position in the wheels.
    • Control, Manage and Supervise P3000 Red Area activities.
    • Housekeeping of P3000, P2000, P2100 and P1700 QC lab.
    • Manage Liquid storage tanks at P1600 and P3000 Basement and keep them as low as possible-50% in total volume.
    • Managing all request to dispose expired chemical in all facility handling, by receiving the inventories from each facility, with MSDS, placing a Purchase Order, and finally arranging for the collection of the expired chemicals.
    • Arranging for the decontamination and cleaning activities at P3000 facility weekly.
    • Ensure That Staff Comply with Safety Requirements Including the Gowning Of PPE.

    CONTRIBUTE TO THE NUCLEAR WASTE MONTHLY REPORT

    • Input information into the electronic waste management system for record purposes.
    • Management of the two storage wheels and manage them (Small and Big waste wheels) - create more spaces as soon as dose rates are within acceptable limits.
    • Ensure that cGMP and GDP requirements are complied with.
    • Ensure that relevant records and reports are generated.
    • Ensure that generated records are reviewed, and that they comply with GDP requirements.
    • Ensure that all subordinates are successfully trained on GDP and cGMP.
    • Ensure that all relevant documents are available and kept current.
    • Ensure that equipment is identifies, validated and calibration status kept current, and records are easily available.
    • Ensure that personnel are adequately trained, authorized and SQEP’d to all relevant SSOPs, PRGs and that their records are kept current.
    • Making sure that all damaged equipment is reported via the Maintenance Request register and follow up that they are resolved before they are used.
    • Make sure that cost is minimized as best as possible.
    • Ensure that enough DPTE containers are in stock.
    • Ensure that enough CPTE containers are in stock.
    • Compile works procedures for Waste. Department and ensure that they are kept updated, Train and Qualify Operators.
    • Ensure that audit actions, CAPAs etc. are closed out on or before target dates agreed to with relevant stakeholders and that are closed effectively.
    • Ensuring that the housekeeping of P3000 blue area, passages and Lumitec is maintained inside and outside the buildings.

    ENSURE THAT INTERNAL AND EXTERNAL CUSTOMERS ARE SATISFIED

    • Ensure that the number of capa’s are minimised, and that there are no re-occurrences within a financial year.
    • Ensure that customers get their orders on time.
    • Assist in keeping ntp’s customers happy thru’ feedback 
    • Generate monthly/quarterly reports that includes information in respect of waste generated, transferred, and stored and submit for review and checking.
    • Generate new documents as requested in support of procedures.
    • Review procedures for updating and update as necessary.

    INDIVIDUAL DUTIES

    • Control overtime
    • Manage human resources in accordance with policies, procedures and legal requirements.
    • Analyse the business plan to determine the applicable deliverables and targets for the department in consultation with the senior manage
    • Prepare monthly and weekly reports for submission to management
    • Ensure that administration is undertaken and aligned to processes and procedures
    • Communicate with suppliers in respect of discount and delivery times
    • Manage expenditure of the budget
    • Conduct meetings with staff members for daily planning sessions
    • Report performances to line management 
    • Continuously provide feedback and coaching to ensure that the staff performs effectively and efficiency
    • Member/s performs at optimum productivity level
    • Conduct and participate in performance reviews in accordance with policies procedures and take corrective actions where necessary provide feedback to the relevant role players.

    Qualifications and Experience:

    Minimum Qualifications:

    • National Diploma In Waste management

    Minimum Experience:

    • 4 - 6 years’ experience working with radioactive waste or in a radioactive environment (Waste treatment).
    • At least two years’ experience in a supervisory role
    • Code 10 driver’s license would be an added advantageous
