Duties

• Plan, develop, coordinate, and execute GISc projects and activities aligned with the department’s strategic objectives. Perform advanced spatial analysis, spatial modelling, and geo-statistical analysis to identify patterns, trends, and support decision-making. Design, develop, and maintain geospatial databases, geodatabases, and digital libraries, including metadata management and ensuring data quality. Facilitate data collection, capture, integration, and conversion from various sources and formats. Produce maps, visualizations, and reports — including custom mapping, web-based GIS services, and data products for stakeholders. Develop and implement GIS standards, policies, interoperability, and best practices.
• Provide GIS support and training to end-users, including developing training manuals and promoting knowledge sharing. Research and innovate — develop new methods/technologies for spatial problems, evaluate new GIS tools, and conduct cost-benefit analyses. • MSc degree in Pasture Science or relevant qualification. 6 years post-qualification natural scientific experience. Compulsory registration with the South African Council for Natural Scientific Professions (SACNASP) as a professional Natural Scientist.
