    Internship Programme – Group Life

    Key Purpose of the role

    • The programme is designed to provide practical exposure and support to the Group Life Operations team by assisting with key administrative functions across multiple areas, including underwriting, GEP, lump sum claims, billing, disability management, and back-office administration. Interns will gain hands-on experience in operational processes, contributing to efficiency and accuracy while developing foundational knowledge of group life insurance practices.

    Areas of responsibility may include but not limited to
    The successful applicant will be responsible for but not limited to the following job functions:

    • Prepare Broker Reports: Compile accurate reports using internal systems (SFE and Compass).
    • Index Documentation: Ensure work items are correctly indexed on the appropriate system.
    • Medical Requirements Coordination: Send requests for medical requirements to brokers or Service Consultants for members exceeding the free cover limit.
    • Member Onboarding: Load member details onto the system and coordinate with the Smart Service team for nurse-completed medical documentation.
    • Billing Management: Manage a billing portfolio of 30–40 Debit Order schemes or 25–35 EFT schemes (Standard Schemes).
    • Work Pool Management: Monitor and manage work items in line with agreed Service Level Agreements (SLAs).
    • Claims Assessment: Assist in assessing new notification claims under close supervision of the Team Leader/Operational Specialist.
    • Claims Communication: Support the issuance of reminder communications for pending Global Education Protector (GEP) claims.
    • Reporting: Assist in compiling reports related to Global Education Protector (GEP) claims.

    Education and Experience

    • Matric / Grade 12 is essential.
    • BCom Degree or Honours

    Specific Requirements:

    • No previous internship and or graduate programme in any industry or government institution
    • No work experience (Essential)
    • Between the ages of 18 – 30 (Essential)
    • You must be a South African Citizen by Birth or by naturalization before the 27th April 1994.

    Underwriter (Junior)

    Key Purpose of the role

    • Pre assessment of cases for group risk members above the free cover limit, submitted via a Declaration of Health. Works under direct supervision, with limited sign off limits. May contact applicants or brokers to obtain additional required information and answer questions from applicants regarding underwriting processes and decisions.

    Areas of responsibility may include but not limited to

    • Assessment of risk for covers above the free cover limit, through assessment of a Declaration of Health
    • Providing reasons for underwriting decisions to members and their doctors
    • Liaising with re-insurer for cases above the relevant treaty limits
    • Liaising with members and brokers to obtain required information

    Compliance Officer

    Key Purpose

    • The Financial Crime Compliance Officer primary purpose is to assist with safeguarding Discovery by implementing and maintaining robust anti-money laundering, and anti-terrorist financing measures. This role ensures Discovery's adherence to regulatory requirements, monitoring and assurance, assist in prevents financial crimes, and upholds the integrity of its financial operations.

    Areas of responsibility may include but not limited to

    • Providing support and technical guidance on legislative compliance matters and to assist with the implementation, development and maintenance of the Compliance Risk Management Framework.
    • Assist with ensuring that all regulatory and compliance risks are identified, managed, mitigated and reported.
    • Analyse current and forthcoming regulations, proposals, and legislation and provide meaningful detailed analysis.
    • Conduct monitoring reviews to ensure that the company adheres to regulatory requirements.
    • Compile internal compliance reports.
    • Recording of non-compliance matters identified and follow through on the agreed recommendations.
    • Assist management to influence proposed legislative changes and projects initiated by the industry bodies.
    • Relationship management and interaction with internal stakeholders.
    • Assist, monitor, guide and coach staff on compliance matters.
    • Legal interpretation and application to facts.

    Competencies

    • Communicate clearly and concisely.
    • Strong understanding of Companies Act, King V, OHS, Environmental laws and other applicable governances’ legislation)
    • Exposure to end-to-end compliance not limited to one specific legislation

    Qualifications

    • A bachelor’s degree in law or equivalent
    • Post Grad / Certificate in Compliance Management
    • Minimum 3 - 5 years’ experience in a regulatory risk management or similar role.
    • Experience in advisory services
    • Demonstrates practical understanding of corporate legislation
