    Technical Specialist - S4

    The Role:

    • To provide advanced technical expertise in the mechanical and electrical assembly, manufacturing, testing, and troubleshooting of mining loaders used in hard rock and soft rock mining operations. The Technical Specialist ensures that all machines are built to specification, tested for performance and safety, and optimized for reliability in demanding mining environments.

    Key Responsibilities:

    • Ensure sub-assemblies and assembly of mechanical and electrical components on machines are done according to engineering drawings and specifications.
    • Ensure adherence to production schedules and quality standards.
    • Perform functional and performance testing of completed machines.
    • Conduct pre-delivery inspections and ensure all systems operate within defined parameters.
    • Document test results and corrective actions taken.
    • Diagnose and resolve complex mechanical and electrical faults during and after assembly.
    • Utilize diagnostic tools and software to identify root causes of issues.
    • Support workshop and field service teams with technical problem-solving when required.
    • Liaise with design engineers, production teams, and quality assurance to resolve technical challenges.
    • Provide feedback on design and assembly processes for continuous improvement.
    • Train and mentor junior technicians and artisans.
    • Ensure all work complies with relevant safety regulations, industry standards, and company procedures.
    • Maintain accurate records of work performed, issues encountered, and solutions implemented.

    Your Profile:

    • Technical Qualification with Millwright Trade
    • Computer literacy
    • Strong knowledge of hydraulic, pneumatic, electrical, and control systems( LHDs).
    • Experience with CANbus system for Loaders
    • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and schematics.
    • Experience with diagnostic tools and testing equipment.
    • Excellent problem-solving and communication skills.
    • Maintenance of earthmoving equipment in mining/construction environment

    Technical Trainer

    • Extract expectations from job profiles and process flow (i.e. job begins, ends, requirements)
    • Review job analysis with focus on required knowledge & skills

    • Review lesson plan and update as needed
    • Prepare self, learning environment and learners as per lesson plan
    • Prepare learning aids and verify training material as per budget
    • Identify obstacles to learning and take appropriate action
    • Deliver background & introductory material
    • Conduct pre-test and establish actual learning needs/gaps
    • Facilitate/instruct learning material
    • Assess knowledge/skill as per pre-set criteria & provide feedback to learners

    • Perform performance & critical incident analysis
    • Identify any and all SHEQ obstacles and take appropriate action
    • Identity any and all hazards and take corrective action
    • Develop course/module control documents and feedback systems
    • Keep record keeping of all assessments, lesson plans & control documents
    • Follow lesson plan
    • Report any and all Incidents and accidents as per reporting structure
    • Provide PPE as per requirements
    • Complete & submit training reports as per schedule
    • Certificate all capable learners and keep records

    Customer satisfaction (internal & external) 

    • Update and communicate training schedule (external & internal)
    • Conduct needs analysis (including performance and critical incidents)
    • Review job analysis with focus on required knowledge & skills
    • Complete & submit training reports

    Your profile

    • Matric (Grade 12) or equivalent Qualification
    • Trade qualification essential. Millwright by trade will be an advantage
    • Certificate of Competence in ETDP or related qualification as Adult Education Facilitator
    •  Proven competence in Course Design and Development
    • Minimum 3 years’ experience & proven competence as technical/Specialist on Sandvik products.
    • Sandvik Mechanical Cutting equipment experience is essential
    • Indigenous language competence will be an advantage (excluding English and Afrikaans)
    • Computer literacy essential
    • English language proficiency
    • Valid driver's License  
    • Be able to work flexible hours & travel extensively
    • Fit to work underground.
    • Flameproof & gas testing will be an additional advantage

    Experience with:

    • Assessment of technical competence
    • PLC Control systems
    • Maintenance of transmissions and Hydrostatic systems
    • Specialist level understanding of hydraulic systems
    • Mechanical/Electronic Engine monitoring and controls
    • Basic understanding of industrial communication networks
    • Service/repair of any Electrohydraulic systems
