    Process Controller ( P11 )

    Sappi Tugela Mill requires a Process Controller for efficient refining and blending of fibre to the appropriate proportion and constant consistency of pulp from the Stock Preparation to the Refining Section according to Best Operating Practice.
    This role reports in to the Production Foreman.

    The main responsibilities of this job are:

    • Plant and Equipment Efficiency
    • Takes Over and Hand Over Shift as per Checklist
    • Conducts Plant Inspection to ensure that equipment is in a safe working condition as per Checklist - All Defects and Abnormal conditions reported and recorded
    • Prepares Section for Start-up and Shut down according to BOP incl Isolation
    • Accurate monitoring, sampling , analysis, quality checks, stock taking, recording, reporting and rejection of materials (ie stock & pulp levels / freeness / consistency tests / paper / sheet / strength / density-related properties / machine vacuums / LCR Plate efficiency)
    • Assist with sheet breaks and machine clothing changes
    • As a Lead Operator ensure the activities of all team members to contribute to the achievement of targets within the Department. (ie Couch / Guide / Delegate / Monitor)

     
    Safety and Environmental Compliance

    • Understand and comply with all SHEQ requirements of the job
    • Carries out BBS observations
    • Identify and take corrective action in terms of SHEQ conditions and hazards
    • Maintain the high level of housekeeping in the workplace at all times

     
    The ideal Candidate should have

    • Matric and/or N3 Pulp & Paper Certificate
    • Competency Certificate
    • Computer Literacy (SAP & MS Office) Advantageous
    • 2 to 3 Years’ Industry Experience

    Management Forester - Resources Underberg (HRL 15U)

    Sappi Southern Africa Forestry requires a Management Forester - Resources to manage timber supply agreements with individual timber growers, forestry companies, co-operatives and communities to create sustainable forestry enterprises for the supply of fibre into Sappi markets. 

    This role reports to the Resources Manager - KZN

    The main responsibilities of this job are:

    • Manage the management associated program (MAP), timber supply and related agreements with private and individual growers, forestry companies, co-operatives and community schemes in line with the contract projects database and related contract information to ensure sustainable timber supply into Sappi mills
    • Advise growers on technical forestry matters including re-establishment, silviculture, environment, mapping, harvesting and transport in order to maximize the yields from the grower’s property
    • Procure the additional timber requirement to Sappi markets in the form of both long and short-term agreements to align supplies with mill demands through supply chain analysis focusing on legality, traceability and certification
    • Ensure the growers on the Sappi Group Scheme manage their timber properties according to the principles of the Forestry certification bodies to promote sustainable use and management of forests
    • Facilitate internal and external audits with the Group Scheme Manager to ensure compliance
    • Stay abreast with timber prices and forestry intelligence in the area of responsibility by following trends to be a market of choice
    • Maintain and enhance Sappi’s image in the area to increase Sappi’s footprint in terms of increased timber supply
    • Ensure that contracted volumes of timber as listed in the timber supply agreements is supplied to the Sappi markets when required
    • Manage the supply of suitable seedlings for the replanting of the timber to be delivered to Sappi as per agreement, including costs and tray returns to minimise losses
    • Ensure timber payments on deliveries to the various Sappi mills are accurate and approved on a monthly basis for on time payments
    • Manage loan advancements and recovery processes to ensure financial integrity and accountability of project budget and to promote self sufficiency
    • Ensure strong working relationships are built through continuous visitation and technical advice to promote Sappi as a market and/or supplier of choice
    • Co-ordinate with all stakeholders to ensure smooth implementation of all forestry projects, components and activities to create co-operation and synergy between Sappi departments
    • Ensure that the procurement and extension budget is in line with the plan and is captured correctly on the monthly report
    • Understand the KZN Forestry Resources budgets and provide input on the procurement of timber and related extension services
    • Manage variable and fixed budget costs and report on financial performance of the area of responsibility
    • Work with Timber Control TCS staff on project activities budget by monitoring and reporting variances
    • Ensure that the following month’ sales plan is compiled, confirmed and submitted through to the Materials Controller to warrant timeous capturing and communication to the suppliers and hauliers
    • Ensure that daily woodyard stocks, rail report, mill performance and turn around times (TAT) reports are communicated to suppliers to proactively align deliveries with agreed order
    • Prepare monthly progress reports to monitor all technical, financial and administration aspects made available to the project to ensure reporting requirements as per the contract are met  
    • Ensure compliance to all SHEQ policies, procedures, best practices and work instructions by suppliers through Stop and Think Before You Act (STBA)
    • Educate suppliers on the KZN Mills’ requirements and monitor adherence to standards, policies and procedures
    • Assist safety and risk managers with related incident and accident investigations

    The ideal candidate should have:

    • National Diploma in Forestry or related qualification
    • A Logistics and or Transport Management qualification will be advantageous
    • At least 3 years’ relevant experience

    Services Foreman (HRL 15)

    Sappi Stanger Mill requires a Services Foreman to co-ordinate mill wide Engineering services to Stanger Mill.  

     This role reports in to the: Services Engineer

     The main responsibilities of this job are:

    • Scope and approve civil, scaffolding, railway and garage maintenance work for the mill.
    • Prepares and plans shut programs and daily work.
    • Carries out preventative and predictive maintenance.
    • Follows SAPPI Maintenance SAP processes which include notification and work order management.
    • Contractor management.
    • Budget control.
    • Accurate reporting
    • Responsible for safety, health and environmental issues.

     The ideal candidate should have:

    • Full N3 Certificate.
    • Trade Test Certificate
    • Relevant working experience in a manufacturing / heavy industry environment, with relevant supervisory/leadership experience including in acting roles.
    • SAP experience is advantageous.
    • Valid driver’s licence.
    • Computer literacy.

    Mechanical Engineer (HRL 16)

    Sappi Stanger Mill requires a Mechanical Engineer to provide competent and cost-effective maintenance support, maximizing plant availability and contributing to the Stanger Mill’s strategy.  
    This role reports into the: Engineering Manager

    The main responsibilities of this job are:

    • Manage equipment uptime through fast response to plant breakdowns and equipment repairs.
    • Actively drive the use of plant reliability monitoring techniques.
    • Responsible for legal compliance.
    • Short term planning as well as annual shut planning.
    • Root cause failure analysis and close outs.
    • Responsible for safety, health, environmental and quality issues, including incident investigations.
    • Budget management and cost control.
    • Lead and manage a maintenance team.
    • Accurate reporting.
    • Utilize and monitor SAP Maintenance system.  

      
    The ideal candidate should have:

    • BSc/BEng/BTech in Mechanical Engineering with at least 3 years experience as a Mechanical Engineer in a heavy industry/manufacturing environment. OR
    • National Diploma in Mechanical Engineering with at least 5 years experience as a Mechanical Engineer in a heavy industry/manufacturing environment.  
    • Experience in the Pulp & Paper industry would be advantageous.
    • Leadership experience is a definite advantage.
    • Government Certificate of Competency is as an advantage.
