    Tax Advisor

    OVERALL PURPOSE

    • Advising and consulting with clients on SA and international tax engagements, both personal and corporate tax.

    WORKING RELATIONSHIPS

    • The position reports to, and works directly with the Partner - Tax Advisory within the Family Office. Other working relationships include all members of the extended Family Office Team. This role is a legal and tax specialist advising clients on personal tax and exchange control issues, including cross border transactions. The role may offer legal opinion and regulatory advisory. This is a client facing and income generating role.

    PRINCIPAL ELEMENTS AND ACCOUNTABILITIES 

    • Consulting and writing of tax opinions
    • Conducting research and keeping abreast of the latest developments in tax
    • Provision of exchange control advice and drafting of exchange control applications
    • Preparation of tax computations for clients
    • Review of tax returns
    • Drafting of objections and appeals to assessments and assistance with SARS queries including dispute resolution with SARS
    • Sundry correspondence with SARS
    • Involvement from time to time in tax aspects relating to special assignments including corporate restructurings, listings, investigations, due diligence and other investigations, etc.
    • Preparation and presentation of in-house training programs. 
    • Periodic contributions to the in-house technical and other publications 

    QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS

    • CA (SA) / LLB / M Com Tax
    • High net worth and international tax experience would be preferable
    • Minimum of 3 years relevant working experience ideally within a consulting tax environment.
    • Good communication skills, both oral and in writing
    • Ability to manage multiple assignments
    • Strong tax technical skills
    • Strong ability to interpret financial information and transactions
    • Accounting knowledge preferred
    • Research and report writing

    Client Portfolio Analyst

    WORKING RELATIONSHIPS

    • This role forms part of the Investment Management Client Team based in the Johannesburg office and also has a strong working relationship with the Investment Management Client Team in Cape Town. Other working relationships include general Stonehage Fleming Relationship Managers, external investment managers and linked investment service providers. 

    OVERALL PURPOSE

    • The primary purpose of the role is to support Portfolio Managers in Johannesburg to manage client investment portfolios by taking into account the client’s specific situation, the agreed mandate, the investment team’s views and preferred vehicles.

    PRINCIPAL ELEMENTS AND ACCOUNTABILITIES 

    Portfolio Management 

    • Ensure proper take-on of new clients, collecting FICA and liaising with client service team
    • Conducts suitability assessment of clients and analysis of client affairs (fact find)
    • Prepare new client reviews and proposals
    • Prepare and oversee client implementation plans
    • Maintain and update client lists, provide tax statements when requested and calculate expected CGT
    • Prepare cash flow forecasts using expected investment returns and cash needs
    • Ongoing monitoring of client portfolios - preparing trade recommendations and rebalancing of portfolios when necessary
    • Attend client meetings, prepare meeting packs, notes and minutes
    • Prepare feedback to general client queries and ad hoc investment analysis requests
    • Check monthly and quarterly reports and liaise with reporting team on requirements
    • Reconcile and audit client reports
    • Prepare quarterly commentary on client portfolios
    • Assist with any ad hoc requests and general administration involved in maintaining client portfolios and files Trading and execution support
    • Take responsibility to ensure all trades are executed accurately and timeously
    • Investigate trading queries Compliance & Risk Management
    • Ensure that client files are properly set-up and maintained
    • Ensure clients adhere to approved fund manager list, asset allocation targets & limits
    • Maintain record of client advice 

    QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE 

    • Business, Economics or Investment related degree, preferably with Honors
    • Investment related postgraduate qualification (or studying towards) such as CFP or CFA advantageous
    • 2-3 years of relevant experience in the finance / investment industry

    SKILLS 

    • Strong general investment knowledge critical, i.e. economy, financial markets, asset classes and portfolio management with a keen interest in investments
    • MS Office (Excel, Power Point, Word, Outlook)
    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
    • A track record of overall integrity
    • Strong attention to detail and
    • Good relationship management skills

    Client Relationship Manager

    OVERALL PURPOSE

    • The candidate will be responsible for managing the global and local multi asset investment portfolios of an existing book of high net worth clients. This requires in depth technical knowledge of onshore and offshore financial markets and products. The candidate will be expected to build and maintain strong relationships with both existing and potential global and local clients. The individual is required to contribute towards new business development, as well as identify opportunities and make referrals to other service lines across the Stonehage Fleming Group.

    REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS AND LOCATION

    • The role reports to the Senior Client Relationship Manager in SA. This role will be based in Cape Town or Johannesburg depending on appointment. 

    WORKING RELATIONSHIPS

    • This role requires a strong working relationship with the Investment Management team in  Johannesburg, Cape Town and London. The role also requires strong relationships with Stonehage Fleming employees at all levels, across geographies. Externally the role requires regular interaction and close relationships with existing and potential clients, as well as business introducers.

    • Manage the investment portfolios of an existing book of clients

    SKILLS

    • Strong general investment knowledge, i.e. economy, financial markets, asset classes and portfolio management with keen interest in investments
    • Working knowledge of SA and offshore tax and compliance requirements
    • Excellent communication and inter personal skills (written and verbal)
    • Attention to detail

    QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

    • Degree in Finance, Investments or related - CFA Charterholder preferred
    • Minimum 5+ years’ experience in a similar role within the investment industry
    • Proven new business capability and strong private client management experience
    • Experience in managing offshore and onshore multi-asset class portfolios
    • FAIS registered representative
