    Marine Production Supervisor

    Job Description:

    You will be responsible for ensuring that production targets are achieved in a cost-efficient and safe manner, still guaranteeing that our systems run proficiently.

    Your role will include:

    • Managing the production treatment process.
    • Leading the team to ensure all goals and production targets are met.
    • Reporting updated statistics for the production month.
    • Guaranteeing that the Geological Observers report on mine panels to the client, is accurate.
    • Establishing vessel objectives for production and maintenance.
    • Ensuring that issues related to the mineral processing plant are identified and rectified timeously.
    • Keeping abreast of all the latest and innovative technologies available.

    Qualifications:

    Formal qualifications:

    • Grade 12 is required
    • National Diploma in Metallurgy (Extraction) or Geology will be advantageous

    Additional requirements:

    • Travel to Namibia as and when required

    Role-specific knowledge:

    Senior Engineer - Carbon Neutral

    Job Description:

    Your role will also be responsible for:

    • Leading the development and implementation of the Carbon Neutrality Roadmap.
    • Providing expert advice to the Senior Engineering Manager and Operations team.
    • Liaising and engage with group and industry carbon management thought leaders.
    • Ensuring the seamless integration of all work within the operation.

    Qualifications:

    Education required:

    • Grade 12/Std10/N3 or relevant NQF Level 4 qualification

    • Government Certificate of Competence (GCC -Mines and Work (Electrical or Mechanical)) is essential
    • Professional registration with the Engineering Council of South Africa (ECSA) will be advantageous

    Business Improvement Specialist

    Job Description:

    You will also:

    • Be responsible for the development of the statistical models such as the Business Structure and Performance Model (BSP),Value Driver Trees (VDTs) as well as implementing various data tools across the site for various improvement initiatives
    • The role supports AAOM (Anglo American Operating Model) implementation in the existing open pit mining operation (including support departments), as well as the underground mine that is currently being designed and developed.
    • Process mapping and optimisation, analysis of data and information, identification of opportunities, recommending alternative approaches, employing technical solutions to overcoming operational constraints and unlocking value through application of AAOM principles
    • Assess, recommend and implement the design of metrics, systems, and approaches that enhance operational delivery, enable value chain optimisation and embed new ways of working in accordance with AAOM principles.
    • Consult with process owners, develop new systems and practices designed to unlock value and work with the operational teams on the design and implementation of innovative ways to seamlessly integrate changes into established systems and practices.
    • Provide timely and accurate operational performance and benchmarking analysis ensuring key insights are highlighted.
    • Liaise effectively with key business contacts, technical teams and AAOM teams and build strong working relationships. 

    This role is in the Business Improvement Department at a Band 6 level reporting to the Business Improvement Manager

     

    Qualifications:

    Education required:

    • Bachelor degree or equivalent in Metallurgy (Mineral Processing) or Chemical Engineering.

    Experience required:

    • A proven track record of a minimum of 5 years operational experience in the Mining industry, with further experience in data analysis and/or Six Sigma.
    • Sound understanding of Business Improvement concepts and principles
    • Strong data analytics skills and experience with analysis, operational efficiencies and value chains.
    • Understanding of, and ability to perform statistical data analysis.

    Business Improvement Specialist (PSO)

    Job Description:

    • Be responsible to set up effective project management processes in accordance with corporate and AAOM guidelines, and then to coordinate the improvement project portfolio for Venetia Mine according to those agreed processes.
    • The PSO function is an analysis, prioritisation, tracking, reporting and coordination function and as such excludes the physical execution of the individual projects, since these are executed by personnel in the functional areas.
    • Identifies material business opportunities through coordination of project portfolios, facilitatation of workshops with operational teams, process mapping and data analysis on KPI performance, analysis of operational constraints, benchmarking, inputs from broad-based suggestion schemes, etc.
    • In consultation with process owners and project managers, assists with business case development and evaluation, and prioritises the various improvement opportunities to enable effective project selection and the development of an optimised project pipeline.
    • Coordinates and maintains an Operating Master Schedule for site, consisting of key identified project activities and milestones, overlaid against production events and requirements.
    • Provides project management support to project managers in functional areas, and assists them with development of project scope, project planning, scheduling, budgeting and reporting.
    • Ensures regular visibility on project progress across the site

    This role is in the Business Improvement Department at a Band 6 level reporting to the Business Improvement Manager

    Qualifications:

    Education required:

    • Bachelor degree or equivalent in Metallurgy (Mineral Processing) or Chemical Engineering; or Mechanical / Electrical Engineering with Process Plant experience.
    • Project Management qualification will be advantageous.

    Experience required:

    • A proven track record of a minimum of 7 years operational experience in the Mining industry, with practical experience in project management.
    • Effective project management and facilitation skills.

    Ignite Incubation - Technical Lead

    Job Description:

    The purpose of this role is to provide technical leadership in developing, maintaining and curating the technical discipline/engineering standards that are applied by all engineering staff engaged in delivering technical products or services in the Ignite™ Incubation function. The role works in conjunction with the Technology Incubation and Research Leads to coordinate the processes, systems and structures required to ensure scientific and engineering best practice is followed, technical quality requirements are met, systems are standardised and regulatory compliance achieved.

    The Technical Lead will also liaise extensively with the Ignite™ Commercial Technology Group to provide guidance and feedback on the implementation and effectiveness of appropriate standards and processes to ensure that equipment designed by the Ignite™ Incubation Group may be successfully and reliably manufactured by the Ignite™ Commercial Technology Group.

    Key responsibilities:

    • Accountable for building and managing an internal network of technical subject matter experts into a Community of Practice (CoP) for each technical discipline, allowing emerging concepts, techniques, best practice, training standards and experience to be collected, shared and implemented appropriately.
    • Responsible for signing the Declaration of Conformity which confirms that a product designed and manufactured by De Beers Ignite™ in the UK achieves appropriate regulatory compliance for any countries into which it is to be put into service and that relevant compliance marks (UKCA, CE etc.) have been legally applied.
    • Create and communicate to the Ignite Incubation team clear guidance on Statute, Regulation and technical standards.
    • Provide input to project initiation, planning and specification discussions.
    • Responsible for quality sign-off at stage gate and technology readiness level reviews for development projects.
    • Develop and promote departmental ‘best practice’ standards associated with technical disciplines.
    • Coordinate the review and quality assurance of all technical work produced by the development teams.
    • Provide advice on the selection and promotion of the software platforms used within De Beers Ignite™ to ensure effective and efficient working across all De Beers Ignite™ sites and that such platforms are used correctly to deliver consistent high quality results.   

    Qualifications:

    Formal Qualifications:

    • BEng. or MSc. Qualification in any of the technical disciplines relevant to Ignite Incubation.

    Role-specific Knowledge:

    • Demonstrable experience in a similar role implementing standards for engineers and technical professionals.
    • Minimum of 10 years experience, including complete product life cycle experience from initial specification through unit design, test, integration, system test, commission, regulatory approval and production.
    • Experience in conducting peer reviews, mentoring of staff ,departmental consultancy.

    Senior Site Manager

    Job Description:

    As the Senior Site Manager you will be accountable for the overall direction, co-ordination and execution of the VUP (Venetia Underground Project) Site, Development and Construction activities, in a manner that fosters a culture of zero harm and ensures consistency with the VUP project objectives and plans. The Senior Site Manager holds the legal appointment 4.1 for the Underground Project.

    Key duties of the Senior Site Manager include:

    • Project responsibility for the S&SD as well as the HR delivery on the Site in conjunction with Operational team.
    • Overall Management and delivery of Surface and Underground Construction.
    • Give input and advice on construction issues pertaining to design, scheduling, cost saving measures, potential construction problems and procurement of material and equipment.
    • Advise and provide input into issues pertaining to design, scheduling, cost saving initiatives, potential construction problems and procurement of material and equipment.
    • Ensure all site construction activities comply with quality and legislative requirements.
    • Provides assistance to the Manager - Operational Readiness and Transition, Manager – Mining and Manager – Technical Services in the set-up of operations solutions, systems and procedures for life of mine.
    • Builds solid relationships with Public authorities and other stakeholders to enable effective management and co-operation. Specific focus will be on the Department of Minerals and Energy.
    • Driving a sound and positive relationship with internal stakeholders including the Union of Mine Workers as it pertains to the VUP operations.

    Qualifications:

    • An undergraduate qualification (Bachelors / Honours Bachelor’s degree or equivalent) in a relevant discipline.

    Role-specific knowledge:

    • Knowledge and understanding of SA Mining laws, regulations, codes and guidelines
    • Knowledge of PMBOK methodology within the Construction Management Environment
    • Effective communication, conflict resolution, contingency planning and problem solving (root-cause-analysis) skills
    • Significant leadership and practical experience in Project Management concepts and principles, and the application thereof in a technical environment.
    • Specialist knowledge of Project Management concepts, including Cost Control/ Engineering, Project Integration, Project Commercial Management, Project Risk Management and Document & Data Management.

    Safety:

    • Carries a section 4.1 Mine Health and Safety Act No. 29 of 1996 legal appointment (General Management role).
    • Pursues and drives a culture of zero harm on site through a meticulous focus on health, safety, environmental and security strategies.
    • Ensures that all aspects of the site and work is completed in adherence to the Project Safety, Health and Environmental Plan and the De Beers Safety, Health and Environmental standards and systems.
    • Aligns all project SHE requirements and standards with the Venetia Mine strategy, thereby ensuring a single focused approach to on mine SHE management.
    • Development of Safety Management Improvement plan and alignment of site construction and development objectives.
