    National Post: Communications Analyst, NOB, Johannesburg

    Job Purpose:

    • The SYP programme has a strategic focus on social behavioral change communication and the use of social media strategies and other digital solutions to deliver SRHR information linked to service delivery to adolescents and young people. 
    • UNFPA ESARO supported the development and launch of a youth engagement mobisite called “TuneMe” (TuneMe.org) as well as the TuneMe App. The platform supports young people in accessing relevant health related information including sexual and reproductive health and rights. It features a ‘youth friendly clinic finder’, with embedded GPS capabilities, as well as a feedback mechanism to report on the quality of services.
    • Under the overall guidance and supervision of SYP Regional Programme Coordinator and working closely with the UNFPA Regional Communication Advisor, the Communications Analyst, will ensure the further development and implementation of the SYP Programme communications strategy in the region and ensure that interventions are implemented in the context of the SYP Programme’s priorities.

    You would be responsible for:

    Social media strategies

    • Develop and support innovative and effective SYP Social media presence and campaigns to grow young people audience and community engagement.
    • Manage day to day social media activities.
    • Build, engage and manage an audience through various and relevant social media platforms and channels (i.e. Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, YouTube etc.).
    • Oversee design (i.e.: Facebook Timeline cover, profile pic, thumbnails, ads, landing pages, Twitter profile, Blog, etc.).
    • Leverage social media for SYP outcomes.
    • Promote SYP products such as the mobisite, the website and the music album through social media. 

     Content Management 

    • Create, edit, produce and post relevant online and social media content at the right time, through the appropriate channels, related to the project activities and issues covered.
    • Administrate the creation and publishing of relevant, original, high-quality content; and edit content received.
    • Create a regular publishing schedule.
    • Implement, manage, update and maintain a social media content calendar.
    • While flexibility in the working hours is standard when working with social media, the candidate should be able to deliver an agreed amount of website and social media content each week.
    • Support documentation of promising and/or best practices in collaboration with the Countries implementing the programme. 

    Support to Countries

    • Support HQ and countries in the roll out of TuneMe and its Marketing strategy: optimizing relationships with youth to consolidate TuneMe as the information source of choice to optimize engagement and drive registration on the site and other branded platforms such as Facebook.

    SYP Graphic design, Brand development and Communication products

    • Provide input and support on the design and layout of SYP programme documentation and products.
    • Implement the visual identify guidelines for SYP Programme in line with UNFPA guidelines.
    • Development of consistent brand awareness, visual content and online reputation.
    • Create designs and well as work with graphic designers.
    • Organize visual assets such as photographs, illustrations, info-graphics.
    • Produce SBCC materials with the inclusion of info-graphics.
    • Contribute to the SYP annual Report as well as its design and inclusion of info-graphics. 
    • Develop programme brief/evidence based material to be utilized for advocacy as well as strategic partnerships purposes. 

    Training

    • Provide training for youth network and UNFPA staff to use social media to advocate for increased investment in youth developments and programmes at national and regional levels.
    • Train and/or conduct refresher training relevant colleagues on TuneMe and its content management system (CMS).

     Identify new Opportunities and promote Innovation

    • Identify strategic Partnerships with Mobile network operators in the region. 
    • Promote partnering with popular and relevant pages and websites, and cross promoting.
    • Monitor trends in social media tools, applications, channels, design and strategy.

     Monitoring and Reporting

    • Submitting regular monthly reports about the online and social media activity following a project reporting template.
    • Measure results on a regular basis to establish return on investment.
    • Conduct social media content audits to understand audience preference and the impact of different approaches.
    • Identify and measure key performance indicators such as audience growth; audience profile; audience engagement; user acquisition; content reach; engagement by content type; response rate and quality etc.
    • Prepare updates and reports for team and management meetings, for resource mobilization purposes.
    • Any other duties as identified by the supervisor.
       

    Qualifications and Experience: 

    Education:  

    • Advanced university degree (Master degree) in relevant areas – communications, journalism, public relations or other related field from reputable institution.

    Knowledge and Experience: 

    • At least two (2) years of progressively professional experience and proven track record in developing and implementing social media strategies;
    • Demonstrates creativity and documented immersion in social media;
    • Displays in-depth knowledge and understanding of social media platforms, their respective participants (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, YouTube, Pinterest etc.) and how each platform can be deployed in different scenarios;
    • Good knowledge and experience in Graphic design and production of info-graphics;
    • Previous proven experience in documenting promising or best practices;
    • Expertise in programmes such as Adobe Creative Suite (especially InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop) and Microsoft Office basics (Word, Excel PowerPoint); Photography experience and basic skills in video editing and production are a plus;
    • Ability to work independently and in teams, in an international and multicultural environment;
    • Excellent emotional management skills.

    Languages: 

    Fluency in oral and written English. Knowledge of French or Portuguese is an asset.

    International Consultancy: Trainer Results-Based Management

    Purpose of consultancy:

    The 2gether 4 SRHR Programme is a joint United Nations Regional Programme that brings together the combined efforts of UNAIDS, UNFPA, UNICEF and WHO to improve the sexual and reproductive health and rights of all people in East and Southern Africa. 

    UNFPA East and Southern Africa Regional Office (ESARO), with funding from the Regional SRHR team of Sweden, seeks the services of an experienced consultant to develop the capacity of the 2gether 4 SRHR personnel at regional and country level on results-based planning and reporting. 

    2gether 4 SRHR will use a results-based management (RBM) approach to inform the development of annual work plans and to document the results achieved under the programme outcomes in annual and mid-year progress reports produced by the Programme. 

    Scope of work (Description of services, activities, or outputs)

    The consultant will be expected to provide technical assistance to strengthen results based monitoring and reporting by the programme through:

    • Developing a results-based management training manual that orientates the programme and M&E team on how RBM is to be applied in the planning, implementation, monitoring, reporting on the programme implementation, with a particular emphasis on lessons learnt. 
    • Developing a virtual training workshop for 2gether 4 SRHR personnel to be applied during the annual planning meeting of the programme to provide guidance on how to ensure a RBM approach is applied in the planning, implementation, monitoring and reporting on Programme.
    • Develop tools and mentor the programme team and M&E team in applying the RBM approach through reviewing and providing practical guidance on how to strengthen the reports using a results-based approach through: 
    • Participating in a three-day writing workshop to review the close out report from phase I of 2gether 4 SRHR to ensure that it applies a RBM approach.
    • Review and mentor the M&E team in developing the first quarterly report produced following the meeting and support the programme team to ensure that reports are results based. 
    • Provide guidance and oversight in the development of the consolidated end-of-Year Review report of 2024 (combining country and regional reports) applying RBM principles. 

    Duration and working schedule:

    The contract will be for 32 working days and will run from 1 October 2023 to 30 March 2024.

    • A Master degree in a related field with a minimum of 7 years of experience or Bachelor degree with 9 years of experience in strategic planning and M&E using a results based approach, including providing 
    • Training on Results Based Management 
    • Experience in apply RBM in planning, monitoring and report writing
    • Experience or knowledge in programme reporting
    • Experience in providing technical assistance in applying an RBM to regional entities, countries, and organizations. 
    • Ability to work with strict timelines and under pressure while maintaining a high level of accuracy will be an advantage.
    • High level proficiency in Microsoft (MS) Office software.

    Local Consultancy: Administrative Support and Coordinate UNFPA Programme Implementation in Limpopo

    Purpose of consultancy:

    The purpose of the Terms of Reference is to appoint an Individual Consultant to provide administrative support and coordination of UNFPA programme implementation in Limpopo. 

    Scope of work

    • Utilising the Limpopo Annual Work Plan, assist the youth specialist and provincial department focal person with coordination of the UNFPA programme implementation in Vhembe and Waterberg.
    • Provide administrative support and monitoring workplan activities contracted with Implementing Partner, loveLife.
    • Undertake all logistical and administrative arrangements required for the organization of technical workshops, meetings, missions, and other events as required for coordination of programme implementation. 
    • Follow up on the submission of monthly progress reports by implementing partner
    • Carry out any other duties as may be required by the UNFPA Youth Specialist and LP DSD focal person. 
    • Consult and collaborate with the relevant government departments, young people / youth sector, institutions of higher learning (i.e. University of Venda and University of Limpopo) for research data or evidence-based strategic information, and youth focal persons from the Office of the Premier and other government departments in the province. 

    Duration and working schedule:

    • The duration of the project will be three months, starting from 25 Sept 2023 when the contract is awarded and should be completed by 31 December 2023 

    Schedule of work:

    • Inception briefing meeting with UNFPA and provincial DSD
    • Review of guiding documents and inception meeting
    • Submission of work schedule based on Annual Work plan activities
    • Coordinate virtual and in person consultation meetings with provincial and district focal persons
    • Compile and submit first draft reports for review.
    • Present revised plans to the UNFPA, OTP and government partners and solicit feedback

    Place where services are to be delivered:

    Consultancy will be based in provincial DSD offices, Welfare services.

    Supervisory arrangements: 

    The consultant will be under the overall supervision of the UNFPA Adolescent and Youth program officer and will work closely with the, and LP DSD focal person, and relevant government departments.

    Expected travel:

    The consultant is expected to work from DSD offices in Polokwane and be available to travel for field work and stakeholders engagement as appropriate.

    Required expertise, qualifications and competencies, including language requirements:

    The Individual Consultant must demonstrate the following attributes:

    • Education: University Degree or equivalent in public health/sexual and reproductive health, medicine/social sciences, programme management, or other related field.
    • At least two years’ experience on Youth work, Sexual and Reproductive Health Rights, and or Comprehensive Sexuality Education.
    • Demonstrate experience in administrative processes, scheduling work and excellent computer skills.
    • Demonstrate evidence in carrying out similar work assignments.
    • Be familiar with government SRHR policies, systems and structures.
    • Excellent writing skills and development of reports.
    • Familiarity with South African Government, UN development programmes will be an asset.
    • Capacity to produce quality reports under short deadlines.
