    Registrar (Medical) (Medical Genetics) (4 Year-Contract) (Tygerberg Hospital)

    • The clinical service includes patient management (medical care and genetic counselling) for genetic and congenital disorders, and liaison with the genetics laboratories. Clinical management of patients and families with or at risk of birth defects and genetic disorders. Participation in teaching medical genetics at different levels (undergraduates and other health care personnel). Participation in outreach and support programmes as it relates to genetics services Competent quality of care including clinical administration and audit. Conduct medical genetic research.
    • Diploma in Paediatrics (or equivalent). Completed formal training in genomics, evidenced by relevant courses or postgraduate certification. Computer literacy. Ability to work well within a diverse group including clinicians, counsellors and scientists. Commitment to learning all aspects of medical genetics Experience and interest in teaching medical genetics. Commitment to relevant research. Ability to communicate with patients and families. An interest in and commitment to counseling. Experience in a relevant clinical, scientific or counselling field.
    • An exciting opportunity exists for registrar training in the primary speciality of Medical Genetics. This discipline applies clinical, genetic science, and genetic counselling principles to the management and prevention of genetic disorders and other birth defects.
    • Appointment as Registrar will be for a maximum contract period of 4 years. It may become necessary to second/transfer staff to another hospital/institution during their period of training, in which case affected staff will be consulted prior to any decision being implemented. Registrars will function across health facilities, as per an agreed programme.
    • Should registration with the HEI as a student be discontinued for any reason the appointment as a Registrar also discontinues. Consideration will be given to existing employees who are already on higher salary packages to retain their existing salary position, as personal. As such they are entitled to receive pay progression. Appointment as Registrar will be on contract.
    • Employees in service who opt to continue with their pension benefits as Registrar, will be required to resign after completion of their registrarship should they not be successful for advertised Specialist positions.

    Inherent requirements of the job:

Supervise and support medical interns and medical officers providing medical care on the service platform. Attend teaching program activities, tutorials and assessments as part of the registrar training program.
    • Assist with the training of interns, medical students, nursing staff and paramedics. Learn critical skills required of an Anaesthesiology specialist.
    • Involvement in research/audits relating to Anaesthesia, Critical Care, Pain and Peri-operative Medicine.

    Medical Specialist Grade 1 (ent) (rmmch)

    Requirements :

    • An appropriate qualification that allows registration with the HPCSA as a Medical Specialist in Otorhinolaryngology – Head and Neck Surgery (ENT). Current registration as an independent Specialist Otorhinolaryngologist with the HPCSA. Previous experience will be an added advantage.

    Duties :

    • Provide specialist Otorhinolaryngology- Head and Neck service at Rahima Moosa Mother and Child Hospital as well as at Helen Joseph Hospital on a fulltime basis, including but not limited to: ENT Outpatient Clinic, Theatre, and Wards (In-patients).
    • Do outreach to Peripheral hospitals if/when necessary. Provide afterhours care in accordance with Commuted overtime contract in the ENT Department. Training and supervision of junior doctors (Medical Officers and Registrars) in Otorhinolaryngology working in the department.
    • Teaching of medical students, supervision of student exams and assisting in setting up student exams. Conduct, assist and stimulate research within the department and supervise Registrar’s MMed’s.
    • Attend equipment meetings at Rahima Moosa Mother and Child Hospital and Helen Joseph Hospital. Keep departmental equipment audit up to date and order equipment for the department.

    Requirements :

    • Appropriate qualifications that allow registration with HPCSA as Medical Practitioner. Registration with the HPCSA as a Medical Practitioner. The incumbent must have at least 3 years anaesthetic experience as a registrar and must have passed the oral component of the FCA 2 examination.
