    Millwright - Gauteng

    Role Context

    • Safely execute critical daily maintenance tasks
    • Execute shutdown activities as per plan, according to scheduled time
    • Ensure continuous improvement of asset care management
    • To give direction to Assistant and contractors under their area of responsibility
    • Support asset care and optimisation for ensuring customer needs are met
    • Assist smelter foreman to ensure health and safety of employees it is taken care of through safely maintaining equipment
    • Maintain good housekeeping standards
    • Stop and report any contraventions of the MHSA, regulations, codes of practice, Mine standards and instructions promptly to the engineering foreman
    • Obtain job card and permit to work before any task execution
    • Conduct pre-work risk assessment for every task
    • Assemble, install, test, electrical or electronic wiring, and maintain mechanical, equipment appliances, apparatus, and fixtures, using hand tools and power tools
    • Diagnose malfunctioning systems, apparatus, and components, using test equipment and hand tools, to locate the cause of a breakdown and correct the problem
    • Connect wires to circuit breakers, transformers, or other components Inspect plant equipment components and systems to identify hazards, defects, and the need for adjustment or repair, and to ensure compliance with the relevant standards
    • Advise management on whether continued operation of equipment could be hazardous
    • Plan layout and installation of equipment and fixtures, based on job specifications and relevant standards 

    Requirements

    Minimum Requirement:

    Qualification:

    • Grade 12 and Millwright Trade Certificate
    • Relevant Fitting and Machining/Turning, Electrical Technical Qualifications: Red sealed Engineering Trade certificate Technical Qualifications: Red sealed Engineering Trade certificate or SAQA Verified Trade Certificate)
    • Studying towards N6 National Diploma in Mechanical Engineering would be advantageous
    • Valid MV certificate

    Job Specific Experience

    • Sound knowledge in smelter or foundry environment
    • Minimum of 5 years Solid experience in a foundry/smelter environment as a Millwright
    • Valid driving license (code 08) and own transport

    Lab Operator - North West

    Role Context

    RC Sampler

    Role Context

    Compliance, Risk and Safety

    • Attend daily safety meetings with the Geo-Tech to discuss risk assessments prior to any drilling work being conducted, to identify and report any substandard conditions
    • Participate in all safety initiatives and attend safety meetings to support identification and reporting of any safety hazards and unsafe work practices
    • Participate in risk assessments, including checking safe usage of drilling equipment and proper usage of PPE, to support the maintenance of a safe working environment
    • Sign the Safety Declaration, together with the Foreman and RC Drilling team, prior to starting drilling operations, to indicate the block to be drilled has passed the safety inspection
    • Check the block to be drilled is barricaded off prior to drilling to prevent injuries or accidents 

    RC Sampling

    • Conduct sampling operations at designated mine sites using a variety of tools and techniques in line with established schedules and procedures
    • Measure each drilled hole, using relevant equipment, to check holes are drilled to the correct depth according to the drill plan
    • Collect representative samples from the RC drill holes, delivering quality and timely work within given boundaries of relevant policies and procedures
    • Observe, track and record sample characteristics (including colour, texture, shape, size, smell, density, weight, temperature, etc.), ensuring proper handling of collected samples
    • Count, measure, weigh, and label samples as needed, ensuring proper handling and documentation of collected samples
    • Bag samples for testing at other locations and transport samples to the laboratory for testing if necessary, according to standard procedures, to maintain the safety of samples
    • Compare sample to standard model to quickly assess basic quality of sample
    • Test samples and confirm their conformance to industry standards; notify management when materials do not meet specifications/irregular findings and indicate percentages of materials of specified size, to ensure the integrity and quality of samples
    • Continuously observe and maintain the drilling cadence of the machine monitoring for dust and inefficiency
    • Remove rods, together with the RC Drilling Operator, upon drilling completion, ensuring there is no contamination or damage to other drill holes.
    • Identify opportunities to reduce contamination, by conducting regular site inspections, to support in-pit optimisation

    RC Sample Processing 

    • Dispatch geological samples to the geology logging area for processing and laboratory for assays according to the daily requirement.
    • Receive collected drilled RC holes and samples and the corresponding drill chip tray at the geology sample processing plant/area, to enable sample sorting in preparation for logging.
    • Conduct geological sampling preparation, splitting, compositing and tagging on RC, TH, TFS and Stockpile samples, to ensure quality control of geological pit sampling
    • Discard samples remains, including sample plastics, from the geology sampling process area and the laboratory, including on skip bins into the disposing area (stockpiles) according to procedure and per the line manager’s instructions, to support site rehabilitation

    Recordkeeping and Reporting

    • Capture all collected sampling data in the SABLE database and generate strip logs to support the creation of verbal and written reports for all stakeholders involved

    Resource Management

    • Determine resource needs within own area of responsibility to achieve individual role outcomes
    • Request required assets and resources for the fulfilment of work duties to attain quality work outputs
    • Monitor the use of assets and resources within the team and own area of responsibility, to ensure assets and resources are consistently and appropriately utilised and managed
    • Monitor and track the operation of RC drilling equipment to ensure the machinery works efficiently to prevent accidents/injuries

    Stakeholder Relations

    • Engage with all relevant Departments on issues of the area of specialisation, as directed by the Manager
    • Communicate with internal and/or external stakeholders, where required, to achieve work objectives and to maintain relationships

    • Basic Sampling Course will be advantageous

    Job specific experience

    • Minimum of between one to two (1-2) years of experience in the mining environment

    Ore Quality Controller

    Role Context

    Compliance, Risk and Safety

    • Conduct risk assessments per shift cycle/rotation, ensuring adherence to mining safety standards and best practices
    • Conduct inspections to identify and report/correct unsafe substandard and unsafe conditions, ensure that drilling areas are up and safely demarcated

    Data Interpretation and Reporting 

    • Interpret, examine and record geological data collected, to support management decision making timeously

    Ore Sampling and Analysis

    • Contribute to the assessment of geological conditions, by collecting, examining, and identifying samples, according to sampling procedure, to support the gathering of  geological samples and processing at sampling plant/area on a mine site (basic sampling)
    • Conduct face sampling, by sampling the channel width according to sampling procedures to gather ore specimens for analysis
    • Conduct face mapping, by identifying, describing, geological features and mapping the lithologies according to standard operating procedures, to determine quality attributes of ores
    • Co-ordinate ORE material and Quality-Grade control processes in the pit, to optimise ore Blending flow throughput and minimise/control dilution of ore/waste mixing different ore types
    • Provide significant support to Mining Production operations whilst spending time in the pit as required in order to ensure adherence to the business Grade Control requirements as stipulated in the ore handling and sampling procedures
    • Physically measure mining dilution and control through digging of trenches on the ore/waste boundary/contacts, ensuring adherence to loading and material destination plans and reporting.
    • Conduct blast holes/drilled holes spot checks to re-measure and audit compliance to drilling-plan, ensuring holes area drilled to the depth requirement
    • Conduct ore and waste/interburden waste (IBW) loading, by marking geological ore-waste contacts to help determine/establish waste exposing mining-cut in support of the waste digging plan and grade control dig plan implementation
    • Handle ore and continually monitor Stockpile qualities and dilution control, to support Run-of-Mine Material Destination Tracking/Crusher Plants ROM Ore quality management and feed control, line with the Crusher Feed Plan
    • Drill, log and capture test holes, timeously sample handover for processing and laboratory assays according to the requirement
    • Liaise with mining personnel regarding the material destination action plan to control daily stockpile material movement
    • Discard samples remains, including sample plastics, from the geology sampling process area and the laboratory, including on skip bins into the disposing area (stockpiles) according to procedure and per the Geologist’s instructions, to support site rehabilitation

    Quality Assurance and Quality Control

    • Implement the developed protocols for assessing ore quality, ensuring compliance with established Quality Assurance and Quality Control standards
    • Identify deviations and recommend corrective actions, when necessary, to enable the mining production team to proactively address potential issues impacting production quality 
    • Collaborate with operational teams to implement corrective actions and optimise processes to maintain high-quality ore output

    Resource Management

    • Provide input into required changes in resources (financial or non-financial) to enable the achievement of team and/or own objectives
    • Provide input into resource needs of the team and/or own area of work to achieve business outcomes
    • Request and allocate required assets and/or resources for the fulfilment of work objectives to guarantee quality outputs
    • Monitor the use of assets and resources within the team and own area of responsibility, to ensure assets and resources are consistently and appropriately utilised and managed
    • Provide staff with day-to-day direction and tasks aligned with Departmental procedures, to enable the usage of less resources more efficiently

    Stakeholder Relations

    • Communicate with all relevant Departments on issues of the area of speciality. Liaise across the relevant Departments by engaging with the appropriate stakeholders to ensure all stakeholders remain abreast of Departmental objectives, any potential derailers are appropriately managed and duplication of work is avoided
    • Communicate with internal stakeholders, where required, to achieve work objectives and to maintain relationships

    • Basic Sampling Certificate
    • Elementary Sampling Certificate is advantageous
    • BSc or BTech in Geology will be an added advantage

    Job specific experience

    • Minimum of between two to three (2-3) years of experience in the mining geology environment
    • Experience in the Geology Department is advantageous
    • Computer literate in MS Office
    • Valid Driving Licence
