    Re-Advertisement Manager: Learning and Organisational Development

    Main Objectives

    • To manage training and organisational development initiatives throughout the institution.   Planning, coordination, and monitoring are required to provide sustainable and value-added training programs to drive skills development, upskilling and reskilling for staff.   Responsible for organisational development and change management. 

    The Requirements

    A relevant Bachelor’s Degree (NQF level 7) in HR/Industrial/Organisational Psychology and a minimum 6 years’ relevant experience, where such experience includes: -

    • Previous training and development, organisational development, job evaluation, and change management experience
    • Experience as a Skills Development Facilitator and acquired Skills Development Facilitator Certification
    • Previous experience as an advocate for transformation and change
    • 3 years of experience using technology to execute learning and development strategies
    • At least 3 years of management experience
    • Previous experience as a P&C (HR) professional with exposure to most, if not all, areas of P&C (HR) would be advantageous

    Re-Advertisement: Electrician

    Main Objectives

    • The purpose of the job is to ensure the maintenance of all electrical networks and related equipment, including general electrical appliances used in the catering, residence and other divisions.

    The Requirements

    Qualified Installation Electrician (at least at NQF level 4) plus the following: -

    • Have a valid HV Regs certificate to do MV switching
    • Must be a registered Electrician as per the Occupational Health and Safety Act and registered with the Department of Labour
    • A valid driver’s licence to legally drive a light delivery vehicle

    In addition to the qualifications, approximately 3 years post-apprenticeship experience where such experience includes: -

    • MV (11000V) installation, switching, distribution and protection maintenance with specific reference to SANS10142-2
    • LV (220VAC/380VAC) installation, switching, distribution and protection maintenance with specific reference to SANS10142-1
    • Power reticulation in buildings and the maintenance thereof
    • Installing, maintaining and repairing general lighting and/or sport lighting equipment.
    • Must have worked with the regulations laid down by the OH&S Act
    • Operating and maintaining standby generators, inverters
    • At least 1 year’s staff coordination/supervision experience OR have an RU Supervision or Foundation Supervision Certificate

    The following experience and knowledge will be an advantage: -

    • Operating and maintaining UPSs
    • Operating and maintenance of electric boilers and heat pump hot water systems
    • Operating, inspection and maintenance of manual and addressable fire detection systems will be an added advantage
    • Fault diagnosis, maintenance and repair of general electrical appliances, including major commercial kitchen appliances, commercial laundry equipment
    • Renewable energy, especially solar
    • Lighting protection installation and maintenance

    Job Description

    • Senior Lecturer/Associate Professor in the School of Journalism and Media Studies
    • The School of Journalism and Media Studies (JMS) invite suitably qualified candidates to shape the future of engaged digital journalism at Rhodes University.
    • As a scholar and practitioner with a depth of experience in the study and practice of journalism, you’ll oversee the fusion of cutting-edge journalism practice with transformative experiential learning and practice-based research.
    • As a core aspect of this work, you will take on the editorship of Grocott’s Mail, South Africa’s oldest independent newspaper (est. 1870), owned by the School of JMS. In this role, you will work alongside JMS colleagues to produce hyperlocal, solutions-driven stories that bridge digital and historical divides, amplify marginalised voices, and hold power to account.
    • This is a rare opportunity to research and publish globally on the frontiers of journalism education and practice, mentor self-reflexive media leaders and drive civic impact in a city that needs and deserves accountable storytelling.

    The Requirements

    Senior Lecturer

    • A PhD in Journalism Studies or Media Studies, or closely related fields, plus at least five years of experience as a Practitioner in a print and/or digital news environment.
    • Teaching experience at the undergraduate and postgraduate levels is required.
    • Experience in teaching and research in one or more of the following disciplinary areas: Journalism practice in digital environments, Journalism Studies, Media Studies, Communication Studies.
    • Research supervision of at least Master’s degrees to completion required.
    • Emerging national profile in the discipline and a credible publication record in peer-reviewed publications.
    • Track record of administration, management and/or leadership roles.

    Associate Professor

    • A PhD in Journalism Studies or Media Studies, or closely related fields, plus at least five years of experience as a Practitioner in a print and/or digital news environment.
    • Considerable teaching experience at the undergraduate and postgraduate levels.
    • Experience in teaching and research in one or more of the following disciplinary areas: Journalism practice in digital environments, Journalism Studies, Media Studies, Communication Studies.
    • Supervision of Master’s degrees to completion is required. Supervising PhD degrees to completion is an advantage.
    • National and emerging international profile in the discipline and substantial publication record in peer-reviewed publications.
    • Proven track record of involvement in administration, management and leadership.

    Manager: Secretariat and Governance

    Main Objectives

    • To strategically develop systems and processes in order to ensure the provision of an efficient, professional and quality administrative and secretariat support services to University Committees and governance structures of the University as required.

    The Requirements

    Any relevant NQF Level 7 Qualification (preferably in Administration) plus approximately 3-4 years’ relevant experience where such experience includes: -

    • Excellent English language skills in writing succinct and synthesized reports and minutes
    • Previous experience in a Secretariat and Governance function, preferably within a Higher Education environment.
    • Previous experience working with committees including the scheduling and organizing meetings and a track record of doing so efficiently; the preparation of agendas for meetings; taking minutes of meetings; meeting deadlines with a track record of doing so.
    • Previous administrative experience within a computerised administration environment which includes good organisational and planning skills as well as problem-solving and time-management skills.
    • Experience working with large volumes of work.
    • Track record of using technology to create efficiencies and improve service.
    • Track record of continuous improvement.
    • Ability to lead a team and previous supervision/management experience of at least three years.
    • Experience in website content management is an advantage.
    • Excellent typing skills, including typing draft minutes/notes in a meeting.
