    Supply Chain Management Officer (Pretoria)

    Description

    • Conduct market and industry analysis to ensure best value
    • Gather need, specification and spend information
    • Compile RFQ / RFI/ RFP documents and effectively manage the end-to-end process 
    • Facilitate and lead the Briefing Sessions and bid evaluations committee
    • Leading Cross Functional Teams for different projects and business units
    • Undertake and commercial evaluation and adjudication of supplier bids and coordinates technical evaluation
    • Ensure strategic sourcing procedures and contracts comply with PFMA directives and other specific procedures

    Requirements

    Description
    Ship Surveys and Inspections:

    • Undertake all Statutory Surveys, Audits, and Inspections in accordance with applicable legislation and other relevant regulations relating to Marine Pollution Prevention and Safety.

    Junior Naval Architect (Durban)

    Description
    KEY PERFORMANCE AREAS

    • Registration & Licensing of ships: Determine and define the principal dimensions, tonnages and technical specifications/ characteristics of a vessel for approval by the Naval Architect, for the process of ship registration and licencing of vessels.
    • Naval Architecture: Assess and comment on technical plans of vessels for the approval of the Naval Architect Vessel Plan Approvals. 
    • Legislation/Regulations: Identify shortcomings in existing legislation and generate proposed amendments of existing or the drafting of new legislation from a technical perspective. Draft Marine Notices, Circulars, guidance documents and procedures in support of existing legislation for the approval of the Naval Architect.
    • Administration: Assist in archiving and knowledge management. Attend committee meetings to contribute to technical and operational outcomes as requested by the Naval Architect.
    • Casualty Investigations: Under the direction of the Naval Architect, assist surveyors with investigations into casualties of a specific technical nature where naval architectural input is required.

    Requirements
    MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

    • Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering with MSc in Naval Architecture or Bachelor of Science in Naval Architecture
    • Preference will be given to candidate registered with ECSA and/or SAIMENA

    ICT Officer (Pretoria)

    Description

    • Maintenance and support of technical environment
    • Contributes towards implementation of the ICT strategic deliverables.
    • Provides inputs towards planning of the ICT infrastructure deliverables.

    Training and Development Officer (Pretoria)

    Description

    • Skills Development Planning and Reporting
    • Conduct an annual training needs analysis across all departments in SAMSA to identify skills gaps and training needs within the organisation.
    • Develop and maintain a Training Matrix that is aligned with individual and organisational training needs, as well as performance management and talent development strategies.
    • Coordinate all preparation for the Workplace Skills Plan (WSP) and the Annual Training Report (ATR) and ensure that both are submitted to TETA within the required timeframes.

    EXPERIENCE

    Requirements
    MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

    • Master COC (Unlimited)
    • STCW ancillary courses and any other equivalent training
    • Maritime/Seagoing experience of 3 years

    PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS, TRAINING AND EXPIRIENCE

    • STCW Compliant COC – Master (STCW II/2 – no limitation)
    • STCW ancillary courses
    • Sailed in rank of Master (seagoing experience)
    • Maritime/Sea going experience for a period of 2-3 years in a management role.
    • Driver’s License
    • Own Transport (access to car or willing to get one start of employment) 
    • Preferred Medical Clearance Certificate – obtained from a SAMSA approved medical practitioner.

    Ship Surveyor: Deck (Durban)

    Description
    Ship Surveys and Inspections: 

    • Undertake all Statutory Surveys, Audits, and Inspections in accordance with applicable legislation and other relevant regulations relating to Marine Pollution Prevention and Safety. Give effect to our obligation under the Instruments relevant to the III Code (Tonnage, COLREGS, Load line, SOLAS, MARPOL)

    Examinations and Accreditations: 

    • Give full and complete effect to the International Convention on Standards of Training, Certification and Watchkeeping for Seafarers (STCW), 1978 in accordance with the provisions of section A-I/8 of the STCW Code, whereby all training, assessment of competence, certification, including medical certification, endorsement and revalidation activities are carried out, by applying appropriate domestic legislation.
    • Comply with the Quality Standards System of SAMSA to ensure alignment with STCW.

    Legislation Regulations and Policy: 

    • Review, recommend and contribute towards drafting maritime regulations and amendments. Review and Draft Marine Notices and Marine Circulars. Review, recommend and Draft SAMSA Policies and Procedures. Participate in ad hoc projects as and when required in line with level of responsibilities.

    Requirements
    MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS 

    • Chief Mate STCW II/2 (with all academics and max of 6 months valid Sea-service required towards Class 1, all of which must be acquired within 3years). 
    • Need to have sailed as Chief Mate or OOW with minimum of 30 months sea-service on trading ship of 1600GT or more, on unlimited voyages.
    • Driver’s Licence
    • Own Transport (access to car or willing to get one at start of employment)
    • Medically Fit (Seafarer Medicals) to proceed to Sea if sea-service is required
    • Travel is compulsory on local and international trips

    PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS, TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE

    • Master will be an added advantage.
